    24/28

    Limits

    Classification issues:

Items on sport in the surveys are not detailed enough or areaggregated with culture, recreation, leisure

Examples:ISCO-08: 1431 - Sport, recreation and cultural centremanagers

COICOP: 09.4.1.- Recreational and sporting services

(ICT survey E-commerce: category "Clothes and sport")

  • 8/4/2019 09 Coin Social Data

    25/28

    Limits

Data transmission to Eurostat is not always regulated:

    HBS (Household expenditure on sport)

    TUS (time devoted to sport)

    Pilot EHIS (physical activity)

Optional module of AES (passive participation in sportevents)

Or level of detail is not mandatory:

    Employment related to sport activities

  • 8/4/2019 09 Coin Social Data

    26/28

    Limits

    Periodicity of surveys

    HBS, TUS, EHIS

Insufficient number of observations for some countriesand for some sub-populations when crossing information

Lack of methodological guidelines to measure somevariables

  • 8/4/2019 09 Coin Social Data

    27/28

    Conclusion

Some social data on sports are available

    - as a by product of some pillar survey (LFS)

    - as an attempt to measure some social dimensions

(participation to sport events in AES, as an example)

    However no global methodological framework

This would need resources that are nowadays limited!
