1.DrillingPreparation of hole is madeby drilling out old or brokenbolt using standard drill ofappropriatesize.Countersinkingshould be avoided. Precautionshould be taken against chipsfailing into places where theycouldcausedamages.

2.TappingTotaphole,agenuineHeliCoilTap marked with the threadsize to be repaired must beused.Fullthreadhastobecutto a depth well beyond thelength of the insert or all thewaythroughathroughhole.

3.InstallationPut insert to inserting Tool,so that tang is enggaged inthe mandrel slot. By turninghandle of inserting Tool, theinsertshouldbewoundintothe tappedholeuntill is seated1/4to1turnbellow.

4.Tang removingRemoving of the tang willbe done by the HeliCoil tangbreak-off tool. In threadsM18and above, resp.M14 fine pichuse long-nosed pliers-bendtangupanddown.

THREAD INSERT FOR METAL What is the BÖLLHOFF Helicoil Thread Insert?

BÖLLHOFF Helicoil wire thread Inserts are precision formed coils of18-8stainlesssteelswirehavingadiamondshapedcross-section,havingaradiallybenttangononeend,whichisusedforinstallation.

Inthefreestatetheyareslightlylargerindiameterthanthetappedholeintowhichtheyareinstalled.Duringtheassemblyoperationthetorqueapplidtothetangreducesthediameteroftheleadingcoilandpermitsittoenterthetappedthread.Whentherotation isstopped,thecoilsexpandwithaspring-like action anchoring the insert permanently in place against thetappedhole.

Inthisway,HeliCoilformsafemalethreadofclosetolerancesconformingtointernationalThreadStandards,whichisinanyrespectsuperiortonormaltappedthreads.
