Commander’s CornerI hope everyone has had a great month. Our VFW meeting is set

for 6 September 2018 at 1900 hrs. It is with a heavy heart we learned of the passing of Bruno. Bruno is a long-time member and friend to our post. Please keep his family in your prayers. AR is back home and doing well. I know we have missed her and she has an amazing friend in Marie. Colin had a scare and underwent the placement of two stints in his heart. I am glad to report Colin is following doctors’ orders and was at the VFW the day he was released from the hospital.

We had a great turnout last meeting and hope to see more of you there. Recruiting is the top priority for the State Commander and ours. We are doing a great job bringing in new members and hope to continue this path. I cannot thank everyone for how they treat the new members as they come in to our post. It makes me proud when I watch all of you welcome them to our home and treat them like family. It truly makes a big difference.

I am always looking for volunteers to help in various areas of our post. School has started and the Voice of Democracy as well as Patriot Pen needs to be worked on. I want to get involved with our JROTC programs in our area. Our scholarships are coming again in March and I would like to get the word out early. If you have ideas for fundraising, please let me know and we will support any effort to improve our post.

Our new system should be up and running in the canteen area by this weekend. It will surely be completed by the night of the meeting to watch the Eagles defeat the Falcons on Thursday night football. This system will have microphone capabilities and will allow for groups to show presentations and slide shows if needed. It will also allow our post to host some sporting parties and other events.

I hope by now everyone has seen the new sign. I want to thank the Auxiliary for going in with us to make this happen. You will notice both crosses on the sign. This lets everyone know who we are and what we are about.

I want to thank Big John, Bob Jenkins and his granddaughter, Bela and Graham, Betty, my daughter Bailey, Joe and Sharon for donating their time to help serve a meal for the homeless at the Haven for Hope. It was a great experience and I cannot thank the group and our post enough. Our post also made a $1000 donation toward the purchase of the food.

I want to thank Cherie for putting our newsletter together. It is outstanding, and we are always looking for stories and pictures. Stephanie did an amazing job with heading up the school supply drive with the assistance of Vella. It turned out great and she is already looking forward to next year.

Commander Smith

In the last month we have signed up over thirty new members. When I asked the new members why they selected our post, the majority of the time the answer is because this is the friendliest post they have been to.
