The confer- ence started off with pure joy similar to a family reunion. Clergy and lay shared reports given to us on the status of the conference since we went from 3 to 1, and most was excellent. Mission growth has occurred conference wide. Many churches are reporting increase in attendance and professions of faith. But the down side to this report is that we still have a long way to go, most churches in the Great Plains Conference still do not report any professions of faith in 2014. The joy was soon replaced by sadness at the closing of seven churches Conference wide. Then Saturday came when all who were gathered debated at length on Petition 7 which would allow gays to be ordained and married in the UMC. This passed by a very narrow vote. Over the next few months you will have continued opportunity to meet in groups or with me personally to discuss what this might mean if it passes at General Conference, for the United Methodist Church. I pray that you will not be hasty in any decisions, but let us take this next year and look at the scriptures together and grow with each other. Please know that even though this passed in this Conference, at this time it means nothing, just that it will go to General Conference for vote. Some of you have asked for me to provide the Bishops statement on what took place at conference. He provides a great explanation of what might happen in the future and what this means for us at this time. Here is the link, http://gp-email.brtapp.com/ files/website/news/ petition+7+statement.pdf. APRIL’S MUSINGS (Continued)

As we move forward let us

all hang on to this scripture

which has come to me many

times over the last few days;

2 Timothy 4: 1-5, “4 In the

presence of God and of

Christ Jesus, who will judge

the living and the dead, and

in view of his appearing and

his kingdom, I give you this

charge: 2 Preach the word;

be prepared in season and

out of season; correct,

rebuke and encourage—

with great patience and

careful instruction. 3 For

the time will come when

people will not put up with

sound doctrine. Instead, to

suit their own desires, they

will gather around them a

great number of teachers to

say what their itching ears

want to hear. 4 They will

turn their ears away from

the truth and turn aside to

myths. 5 But you, keep your

head in all situations,

endure hardship, do the

work of an evangelist,

discharge all the duties of

your ministry.” (NIV)

Blessings, Rev. April

• The poor have it,

• The rich need it,

• And if you eat it, you'll die?

We were blessed to have 93 kids registered for this year’s VBS! 22 of them were preschoolers. Those helping making this year’s VBS a success included 20 Elementary Crew Leaders, 6 Sta-tion Leaders, 2 Elementary Directors, 2 Preschool Directors + 2 Crew Leaders and 60 Helpers. There were 95 in attendance for the VBS program on Sunday. Approximately $400 was raised which will be used to send 100 Bibles to children in Thailand.

Demain and I want to thank all of you for your Love, Prayers, Care, Calls, and Support you gave us while Christian was in the hospital those 10 days. It was all of you and the strength of God that helped get us through some uncertain times. This congregation is one of the most caring I know. You are all so special and it means so much to us to be serving this wonderful congrega-tion.

Two BoxesTwo BoxesTwo BoxesTwo Boxes

I have in my hands two boxes which God gave me to hold. He said, "Put all your sorrows in the black, and all your joys in the gold." I heeded His words, and in the two boxes both my joys and sorrows I store. But though the gold be-came heavier each day, the black was as light as before. With curiosity, I opened the black. I wanted to find out why, and I saw, in the base of the box, a hole which my sorrows had fallen out by. I showed the hole to God, and mused aloud, "I wonder where my sorrows could be." He smiled a gentle smile at me. "My child, they're all here with me." I asked, "God, why give me the boxes, why the gold, and the black with the hole?" "My child, the gold is for you to count your blessings, the black is for you to let go."
