are some lessons that are best

learned from throwing ourselves

out of our comfort zones and

embracing a life that is radically

different from that to which we

are accustomed.

By immersing ourselves into an

unfamiliar culture, we are able to gain a profound and

unique awareness of what it can truly mean to live simply,

love deeply, and act selflessly - but only if we allow that

awareness to take root and grow. This worship service is

about how the great Mother India communicated those les-

sons to Montana, and the seeds Mother India planted in her

mind, that Father Time continues to nourish. Join us for this

Donations needed for Central American

refugees this Sunday, July 13th

The high school youth at Horizon are coordinating a toiletries collection drive for the Central American refugees who will be arriving soon to the Dallas area. You can help by bringing the following items to church on

Sunday:

shampoo toilet paper

conditioner diapers (all sizes)

toothbrushes sunscreen

toothpaste brushes

deodorant, soap (bar or liquid) combs

feminine hygiene products hair ties

body and face lotion small toys

welcome notes in Spanish and/or English Walmart gift cards and cash (which will be used to purchase gift cards) for clothing in needed sizes once the children arrive will also be grate-fully accepted. Preschool-rising Kindergartners: Picture Book UU (room S3)

"In God's Name": Our youngest UUs will begin to wonder about the nature of God is and will make a mural showing the many ways God is named; Love, Friendship, Goodness, Nature, Comfort and Caring.

Rising Grades 1-4: OUUr Story (room S4)

"Henry David Thoreau, Pt. 2": The students will watch a sideshow of pictures taken last month at Walden Pond, and will make a replica of Tho-reau's cabin to take home. They will also help with the refugee care packages after their lesson.

Rising Grades 5-8: You, the Creator (Portable rm. #8)

"Symbols, Ethics and More: The Yin and Yang of Life" Middle stu-dents will look at symbols from the world's major religions and cre-ate a religion and symbols of their own. They will also help with the refugee care packages after their lesson.

High School: The Pursuit of Happiness (Portable rm. #9)

Horizon teens in grades 9-13 (rising) are invited to help collect, sort and prepare items for care packages for the expected influx of Central American refugees to the Dallas area later this month.

In this final installment of the series, the end of Part V will discuss influ-ences as diverse as Darwin’s On the Origin of Species, the Civil War,

Feminism, Women’s Suffrage, and the Social Gospel on liberal religion in the early 20th century. Part VI will follow the buildup to and the

merger of the Unitarians and Universalists in 1961 and explore what the future holds for the denomination after 50 years of unification.

Change of Schedule for

Sunday UU History Film Class

Due to a special Board of Trustees meeting, the UU History film class originally scheduled for Sunday, July 13th has been moved to Sunday, July 20th from 12:15-1:45 pm.

Although there will not be a potluck on the 20th, snacks and re-freshments will be provided for those attending the film class.

The Wednesday night section on July 16th will not be affected and class will run as scheduled.

Drop ins are always welcome in the UU History Film class.

What We Choose:

Ethics for Unitarian Universalists An Adult Religious Education Class

Join us as we explore these and other moral and ethical ques-tions that arise in your daily liv-ing. The 8 sessions of What We Choose offer an intentional process of engagement with other seekers in examining ethi-cal concepts, questions and di-lemmas. The material covered is designed to deepen and ex-pand knowledge and skills for a process of ethical reflection that is central to living our Unitarian Universalist faith.

This class offers the opportunity to examine the core of our lives as Unitarian Universalists and the sessions build on each other so we ask that you com-mit to attending all 8 sessions beginning Monday, August 4th and continuing to September 29th, with no class being held on Labor Day, September 1st. All materials will be provided with the exception of your per-sonal journal; a 1-inch 3-ring binder would allow space for journal pages as well as inser-tion of the hand-outs that will provide your reading assign-

ments and preparation for each class.

The co-leaders are Peter Hendee and JuLane and we welcome any questions about the class. Please sign up at the Welcome Center in the lobby, or you can email JuLane at [email protected]. The class is limited to 12 partici-pants.

Childcare will be provided for children under 12 by emailing Ms Becky at [email protected] at least 48 hours before the session for which childcare is needed. She will need to know the ages of each child and about any spe-cial concerns.

Cancellation of arranged child-care must be emailed to Ms. Becky no less than 24 hours be-fore the session.

Horizon Book Group: 4th Tuesdays 12p. ([email protected])

The Horizon Book Group meets at 12 Noon on the fourth Tuesday of each month in the church Library. Every June and November the group decides on the books for the following six months. Bring a brown bag lunch and join in this fun group that is open to women and men. You’ll be able to share in an invigorating conversation on the session’s book. Current selections are found in the Library information niche in the lobby/narthex. For more info, you may contact [email protected].

Buddhist Sangha: Tuesdays 7 PM - 9:00 PM. ([email protected] )

Buddhist Sangha ("Sangha" is equivalent to a covenant group) is a weekly gathering that studies the Dharma (the teachings of Buddhism.) This is an ongoing exploration of the Four Noble Truths and the Eight Fold Path, the essential teachings of Bud-dhism. It is participatory and although consistency is encouraged, sessions can be attended on a drop in basis. We welcome anyone interested in a meditation practice. The UU Christian Chalice Circle ([email protected] )

The UU Christian Chalice Circle provides a forum for enriching our spiritual lives through personal discovery of the heart, meaning, and tradition of Chris-tianity. We gather monthly on the 1st Sunday at 9AM in the library for discus-sion, fellowship, and exploration. All those seeking to connect (or re-connect) to the beauty and wisdom of Christianity are welcome to attend. [email protected].

The CineMat Group ([email protected] )

The CineMat group will be meeting on the 4th Saturday every month. And it’s now a Chalice Circle!. This Chalice Circle gets together to see a movie and then goes to a coffee shop or restaurant to discuss and comment on it in a friendly circle over a cup of coffee or drink. field trip instead of having a potluck lunch.

A chalice circle that offers a check-in and discussion of a weekly life issue topic selected by a group member.

Parents – WE’LL give you Wings! (every other Mon, 9a) ([email protected] ) WINGS Chalice Circle is a fun and friendly group whose purpose is to support the person within each parent by creating friendships and nurturing our intellect and creativity.

The Women’s Friendship in Growth (WFIG) Chalice Circle ([email protected])

Meets on the 2nd, 4th, and 5th Wednesdays of each month from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. We welcome women of all ages to join us for fun, connection, and growth. We share stories from our lives and discuss topics that help us get to know one another better. Recent programs have included How to Think Like Leonardo da Vinci: Seven Steps to Genius Every Day, a night of Board Games, and TED talks on the Power of Vulnerability, Connected but Alone, and Body Language.
