Karcag

We are living in the esatern part of the country, center of the Great Plain’s of Hungary, in a small town called Karcag.

90% of those who are living on the two outskirts of the town, are in underdeveloped social and culturalspheres. For school-age children, the family itself, can not providethe right conditions for a successfulschool progress, for further study.

So, we have to open the study hall quickly, because of thepupils -who are living in Gypsy settlements on the two

outskirts of town- to receive proper education, outside theschool upbringing. The study hall trying to support them

too, as our programs do.

There was a needfor an improvedafternoonoccupation, whatis more efficientthan school daycare, as well as toteach them, howto spend theirfree time usefully. The EU tenderswere launchedfor to supportthis.

The Brethrenwerecompetedsuccessfullyin supportof the StudyHall program, inKarcag too. The Brethrenhave greatexperiencein thisprogram.

The Study Hall in Karcag, developed on the 1st of July in2013, with the aim to decrease difficulties for the disadvantagedpupils in primary schools 5-8th grade, and student on secondaryschools, who are participating in the program, with significantpart of education, social support, development projects tocompensate for the disadvantages.

Extracurricular educationalactivities of the StudyHall, such as inclusiveeducation approach alongdeveloped and implemented to contributethrough the system to theinitial and secondary publiceducationalinstitutions, students of different socialbackgrounds, culturalidentities and individualendowments, successfullyforge ahead in their studiesand achieve in socialmobility through this.

The primary school, St Paul's Marist Primary School(5-8th grade) with 40 pupils and the Karcagi (István Varró) Vocational School, Vocational SecondarySchool and Dormitory (9-10th grade) with 12 pupilsinvolved in the program.

The basic goal is for thegeneral pupils toattending school in thestudy hall, to help schoolsthrough the realization of their potential progress oftheir order, on the basis ofsecondary school offeringsecondary school diploma or the local indicatorsperspective (in thepipeline, perspective, nexttime expected) vocationalschools providingemployment opportunitiescontinue their studies.

The primary goals for pupils of the secondary schools arepromoting the progress of school drop-out prevention and thesuccessful graduation exam, and also obtain a marketableprofessional qualification in higher education institutions tocontinue to promote learning.

Basic characteristic for study hall’s program, that the pupilsare not grouped around the subjects and vocationalteachers, but just the opposite: on the basis of the pupil'sindividual development and needs, what are the areasin, which development help is needed.

In addition to improving academicachievement, we want to achievethat the pupils will improve thelevel of skill and abilitydevelopment, self-confidence, self-awareness andidentity, strengthening theirpersonality.

Then my group, goes to another room, where the pupilsdo their homework, and I help them, if it is necessary.

Meanwhile, the another group, 7th and 8th graders are in the game room.

The smallest, the 5th and 6th graders are beginwith groupworking, if they have some learning orhomework, they do it.
