AGRICULTURAL SOCIETIES COUNCIL RICH FRUIT CAKE COMPETITION RECIPE The following recipe is compulsory for all entrants (see Class 6286)

Winner must be prepared to bake second Rich Fruit Cake for the regional final prior to the end of the year and that the regional winner must bake a third Rich Fruit Cake to forward to Sydney Royal.

INGREDIENTS 250g (8oz) sultanas 250g (8oz) chopped raisins 250g (8oz) currants 125g (4oz) chopped mixed peel 90g (3oz) chopped red glace cherries 90g (3oz) chopped blanched almonds 1/3 cup sherry or brandy 250g (8oz) plain Flour 60g (2oz) Self Raising Flour ½ teaspoon ground ginger

1/2 teaspoon ground cloves 250 g (8oz) butter 250 g (8oz) soft brown sugar ½ teaspoon lemon essence or finely grated lemon rind ½ teaspoon almond essence ½ teaspoon vanilla essence ¼ teaspoon grated nutmeg 4 large eggs

METHOD Mix together all fruits and nuts and sprinkle with sherry or brandy. Cover and leave at least 1 hour, but preferably overnight. Sift together the flours and spices. Cream together the butter and sugar with the essences. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then alternately add the fruit and flour mixtures, mix thoroughly. The mixture should be stiff enough to support a wooden spoon. Place the mixture into a prepared tin, no larger than 20cm (8") and bake in a slow oven for approximately 3 1/2 to 4 hours. Allow the cake to cool in the tin. NOTE To ensure uniformity and depending upon the size, it is suggested the raisins be snipped into 2 or 3 pieces, cherries into 4 to 6 pieces and almonds crosswise into 3 or 4 pieces. Feature Cake Recipe

Jaffa Cake (Choc-Orange Marble Cake)

Class 6307 Ingredients: 60gm of dark chocolate, 126gm butter, 2 teaspoons vanilla, 1 ½ cups of caster sugar, 2 eggs, 2 cups self-raising flour, ¾ cup milk, 1 tablespoon orange rind. Method: 1) - Pre-heat oven 180deg.C (mod oven) Grease 8” (20cm) square tin and line

with baking paper. 2) - Melt chocolate and cool to room temperature. 3) - Cream butter, sugar vanilla essence in a small bowl until light and fluffy.

4) - Add one egg at a time to the mixture, beating well after each addition, transfer mixture to a large bowl. 5) - Then fold in sifted flour and milk. 6) - divide mixture into 2 bowls, stir in chocolate into one bowl and orange rind into the other. 7) - spoon the chocolate and orange mixtures alternately into tin evenly. 8) - swirl a knife through once or twice to give a marbled effect. 9) - bake in mod oven approx... 1 hour. 10) - stand 10 mins before turning out of tin to cool. 11) - Ice with chocolate icing on top only.

the exhibitor unaided, within the past two years and not have won a prize in any exhibition previously. No copies or artworks done with assistance in workshops or classes etc will be acceptable in any section. Works must not have been shown previously at the TURSA Art Prize. No more than four (4) entries per person/per section and only one accepted at maximum size per section (see clause 5). Only traditional art mediums are accepted, ie. 2 All artwork entered must be for sale. A

commission of 20% from the indicated price of the work will be deducted by the Society. Payment within 30 days. On the opening night the society will be waiving its commission to encourage the sale of artists work.

3 Delivery time for works – Monday 15 October from 9am to 2pm. Artworks to be delivered to the Gem Club Pavilion, Lismore Showgrounds (unless special arrangements have been made for early delivery). Artwork may be forwarded by post and will be returned at the artist’s expense. Every care will be taken of exhibits by the Society, but no responsibility will be accepted for loss or damage. If desired, exhibitors can arrange their own insurance at their own expense.

4 Artworks must be ready for safe display

with 2 x D rings (min. size 1cm) 5-7cms from the top of each artwork. As artworks are hung from the D rings, any hanging wire must be loose enough to allow access to the D rings. No screw eyes accepted.

5 All works must be dry and not exceed 150 cms in either direction including the frame OR exceed 1502cm

6 Artworks without suitable safe hanging apparatus, unsuitably framed or oversized will not be exhibited.

7 The back of each artwork MUST show the

following: Section, Title of Artwork, Price, Name of Artist, Address and Phone Number.

8 All artworks are to be displayed for the

duration of the exhibition. If too many entries are received, selection for hanging in the Gem Club Pavilion will be decided by the Committee. Excess entries may be displayed elsewhere if space permits. All artworks that meet the Conditions of Entry will be judged and every effort made to exhibit all entries. The Committee reserves the right to withhold any entry which it considers unsuitable in any manner or does not meet the Conditions of Entry. Entry fees are non-refundable.

11 The Committee reserves the right to have any work reproduced (without fee) in the press and on television, the Society’s website and social media. The artist is responsible for ensuring that no relevant copyright laws are infringed. The signed entry form is evidence of the artist’s consent.

12 The decision of the judge shall be final and if a dispute arises not covered by the Conditions of Entry, the decision of the

Committee will also be final.

13 Youth Art Awards: The entry must be the child’s own original and unaided work and have been completed in the previous two years. Entries must be framed with D-rings (1cm min) or mounted on thin cardboard. Only traditional art mediums are accepted, ie. Paint, pastel, pencil, linocut etc. No photography or digital art accepted.

NO STRAIGHT PINS TO BE USED REGULATIONS - NEEDLEWORK - CRAFTS 1. All work must be the exhibitors own work and have been completed within the last three years. 2. Exhibits must not be washed but may be dry cleaned. ALL EXHIBITS AND MOUNTINGS MUST BE IN AN UNSOILED & UNDAMAGED CONDITION 3. No portion of a collection may compete as a single exhibit. 4. All work must have been executed by the exhibitor. 5. Exhibits may be forwarded, addressed to the Assistant Secretary, North Coast National A & I Society, PO Box 109, Lismore 2480. 6. Every care will be taken but no responsibility accepted for loss or damage to exhibits. 7. Each exhibit is eligible for one class only and must not have won a prize in the open section at any previous Exhibition of this Society. DELIVERY OF NEEDLEWORK EXHIBITS - 8. All exhibits must be delivered to the Fine Arts Pavilion, Lismore Showgrounds, Alexandra Parade, North Lismore on Monday 15th OCTOBER 2018, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm (unless special arrangements have been made for early delivery). No late delivery of exhibits can be accepted as judging commences early Tuesday morning. 9. COLLECTING OF NEEDLEWORK EXHIBITS - PLEASE NOTE NO NEEDLEWORK EXHIBITS WILL BE RELEASED UNTIL MONDAY MORNING. All other exhibits except Needlework may be collected from the Pavilion on Sunday 21st October between 9:00 am to 11am. All exhibits not collected on Sunday 21st may be collected the next week during office hours at the Show Office, Lismore Showgrounds, Alexandra Parade, North Lismore. 10. EXHIBITS in the needlework section are displayed in a glass case as a protection from dust and handling from the public. (Framed works may be hung on walls) No work other than entries may be displayed during the Show. 11. Doyleys/Table Centres to be mounted partially on paper, cardboard or plastic appropriate to the size of article (NO STRAIGHT PINS). 12. PORCELAIN ART - All exhibits in this section must not have won a prize in any previous Exhibition of Lismore Show and must be the bona-fide work of the exhibitor. ALL EXHIBITS MUST BE DELIVERED BEFORE 9.00am MONDAY OR WILL NOT BE JUDGED. The name of the exhibitor must be covered until after the judge's awards have been made.
