NATIONAL REPRESENTATIONDistrict Delegates-Only individuals designated in writing by their AAU District Office as a Girls’ Basketball Delegate shall beallowed to vote in the annual meeting of the Girls’ Basketball Committee. Districts composed of more thanone state that conduct separate qualifying competitions may elect/designate a Director for each state. SaidDirector shall be eligible to serve as a district Delegate on the National Committee.

Elections/Nominations-Concurrent with the election of the AAU President (every four years), the Girls’ Basketball Committee willselect for recommendation to the newly elected President their choice for National Chair. At the samemeeting the National Committee will elect a National Certification Chair.

-One Representative from each AAU Zone will be elected annually to serve on the Girls’ BasketballExecutive Committee. The National Chair may appoint additional members to the Executive Committee aswell as designate Officers and Tournament Commissioners.

Annual Meeting-The Girls’ Basketball Committee encourages all individuals participating in the program to attend theAnnual AAU Convention. Future dates and sites are:

EligibilityAAU Membership-All participants in the AAU Girls’ Basketball program, at any level, must be a current member of the AAU.Every club must have an AAU Club Membership for the current year.

Age Determining Date-January 1st, at 12:00 a.m. of the current year, shall be the determining date for the age of the competitor andshall hold true for the District, Regional and National Championships.

Age Divisions-National Competition for 2006 in AAU Girls’ Basketball shall be in the following age divisions: 9/Under(born in 1996 or earlier), 10/Under (1995), 11/Under (1994), 12/Under (1993), 13/Under (1992), 14/Under(1991), 15/Under, (1990), 16/Under (1989 or 1988, if high school eligibility remaining), 18/uUnder (1987),19/Under (1986), and high school students at the AAU Junior Olympic Games.

Player ParticipationA player may participate in only one Division I National Championship, excluding the AAU Junior OlympicGames competition.

- Players will be allowed to play in Division I AND II National Championships, only if their team does NOTqualify for Division I. Individual players (NOT A TEAM) will be allowed to play in both the D-I NationalChampionship by being picked up by a Qualifying team) & the D-II National Championship either by beingpicked up by another NON- Qualifying team or with their original NON- Qualifying team). All players shallbe eligible to play in the appropriate Grade Based Events regardless of their participation in a age basedNational Championship, D-I or D-II.A player may only play in 1 age group in the DQT

This first year, you merely have to be properly registered with the AAU to participate. Nothing changes with what we have been doing in these events. Thisis simply another opportunity offered by the AAU Girls' Basketball Program.

College Eligible-College students are eligible for participation in the AAU Girls’ Basketball program if their college oruniversity clears them and they meet all other eligibility criteria. Permission from the college or universitymust be in writing and filed with both the District and the National Tournament entry.NCAA Division I student athletes are restricted, at the present time, from AAU participation by the NCAA.

Participating In A Bordering District-An athlete may participate in her District of residence, where she attends school full time OR in a borderingDistrict qualifying tournament. At no time will a player be eligible to play in a District that is not her own ordoes not border her own. She shall register in her resident District.-A maximum of three (3) athletes from bordering Districts will be allowed on any team at District, Regionalor National level.

Sanctions and Penalties-Upon the recommendation of the AAU Girls’ Basketball Executive Committee, the National BasketballCommittee may impose sanctions at the AAU Convention against any coach, club, or team forunsportsmanlike conduct or other actions considered detrimental to the AAU Girls’ Basketball program.

Every National Tournament team/coach must sign this pre-tourney forfeiture statement:"If a team forfeits a game in the National tournament he/she will be suspended for the next game andplaced on one (1) year probation unless the Lead Commissioner and the Tournament Directordeclares that the forfeit was unavoidable" Results of the forfeit will be forwarded to the Chair of thecoaches’ District for further review.

Infractions Committee-The National Chair shall appoint a five-person committee to comprise the Infractions Committee, one ofwhich shall serve as Committee Chair.

-The National AAU Sport Committee has jurisdiction to determine all qualifications, requirements or termsnecessary for participation in the national program.

-Penalties may be imposed for violations of AAU Girls’ Basketball rules, ethical policies, or the AAU Code.Penalties that may be imposed include, but are not limited to, suspension, expulsion, probation, fines,reprimands, warnings, or other limitations or penalties.

-Decisions of the Executive Committee or of its process may be appealed to the AAU Board of Reviewunder the procedures set forth in the AAU Code. Petitions for reinstatement or for modification orcommutation of penalties shall be made to the National Basketball Chair. The Chair may act on the petitionor refer it to the Infractions Committee for review.

Procedures of the Infractions Committee:

1. Infractions are to be reported to the Infractions Committee Chair in writing.The Chair may request the reporting party to provide additional information or evidence beforeinitiating an investigation of the complaint. The Chair must determine whether there is probablecause to believe that an infraction has occurred over which the Sport Committee has jurisdiction.Complaints over which the Committee has no jurisdiction may be referred to the District or the AAUBoard of Review. If there is no probable cause, the Committee Chair will discuss the complaint andadvise the complaining party.

2. The Chair shall give written notice of the complaint to the accused party.In all cases in which probable cause is found, the Chair of the Infractions Committee will send to theaccused party a written notice of the facts of the complaint, the rules which are alleged to have beenviolated, and the procedures that are to be followed during the investigation. The notice shall advisethe accused party that it has twenty days to submit any evidence that it wishes the Committee toconsider or to otherwise respond to the complaint.

3. The Chair shall receive the evidence.Evidence may be presented by writing or by telephone. If evidence is given by telephone, the Chairwill make his own notes of the conversation to be included in the body of evidence.

4. The Infractions Committee shall conduct a hearing.The Chair shall distribute copies of all evidence to the Committee members. He/she may include hisown report on the findings of the investigation. During its deliberations, the Infractions Committeemay choose to hold a conference call or communicate by mail, e-mail, or facsimile. It may choose tointerview any witnesses, to make any further investigation, and/or to examine any evidence bearingon the case.

5. The Infractions Committee shall make a recommendation to the Executive Committee.

6. The Executive Committee shall render the decision.The Executive Committee may accept, reject, or modify the Infractions Committee penaltyrecommendation.

7. Infractions Committee Chair shall notify all affected parties of the results, penalties, and appealrights.

Competition RulesRules-The official rules for AAU Girls’ Basketball are the 2005-2006 NCAA Women’s Basketball rules. RuleBooks may be obtained from NCAA Publishing Dept., P. O. Box 6222, Indianapolis, IN 46206-6222 oronline at http://ncaa.org. There is a $7.50* charge for the book. (* Fee may be subject to change.)

Roster Size-A maximum of fifteen (15) players is allowed on a team throughout the DQT, SRT and/or the National level.A team shall be allowed to add (pick up) a maximum of three (3) players to their official roster used whenadvancing to a National Championship with an overall maximum of fifteen (15) players. >Pick-up playersmust qualify by age and residence in the year of competition. No player whose team has qualified for aDivision I Championship may be picked up for Division II.No team, after their roster has been accepted for the District Qualifying Tournament, may drop any player topick another. Please, also refer to Player Participation under Eligibility above. A maximum of three (3)athletes from bordering Districts will be allowed on any team at District level or Nationallevel.

Game Playing Times-Districts may determine the length of games in their Qualifying Tournaments. However, it is stronglyrecommended that Districts follow the times below.

-Overtime periods are 5 minutes, except for the 9/Under & 10/Under age divisions. Overtime period for9/Under & 10/Under division is 3 minutes.Half time is 10-minutes for all age divisions.-Teams shall have a minimum of 15 minutes to warm-up before games.

-Game time is game time. If a team arrives prior, then they shall have 15 minutes to warm-up.

Official Basketball-The Rawlings 10 panel 28.5” circumference composite basketball shall be the Official AAU Basketball forall AAU National Championship Tournaments as well as Super Regional Tournaments. It is not required, butstrongly recommended that this ball be used in all AAU Sanctioned Tournaments including the DistrictQualifying Tournaments (DQT).

Bench Personnel-Only those persons whose names appear on the roster sheet may sit on the players’ bench. This is limited to15 players and no more than 4 other persons (coaches, trainers, score keepers, etc.) for a maximum of 19persons (All of which must have AAU membership verification). No young children will be allowed to sit onthe bench. All non-uniformed personnel on the bench (INCLUDING COACHES) must wear theChampionship credential. Due to insurance reasons, no exceptions will be allowed.

1. All teams must have at least 2 and no more than 4 registered bench personnel during all games.

2. Bench personnel may be added (up to a max of four) at National Championship registration.

Coaches Dress Code-All bench personnel, both male and female, must adhere to the Coaches’ Dress Code by wearing a shirt witha collar, long pants or dress shorts/skirts, closed toe shoes, plus no HEAD ATTIRE may be worn while onthe bench or during opening ceremonies. Game Officials shall have full and final authority to interpret thisrule. Each violation to the bench rule will result in a technical foul (administrative, not charged to the coach.)Example: If a person is charged with the technical foul then he/she must leave the bench area until his/herattire meets the code.

Temporary Transfer/Pick-Ups-An athlete may be granted a temporary transfer from her team/club to another team/club. For the purposeof competing in an AAU National Championship, or other event a team may pick up a maximum of 3 playersthat qualify by age and residence. A team cannot drop players to add players. (refer to Eligibility,page 12and Roster Additions, page 21) The maximum of 15 players on any roster still applies. (Refer to Eligibility)

District Qualifying Championships

Age Divisions-Districts are encouraged to conduct qualifying competitions in all age divisions.

Notice of Meeting-The Girls’ Basketball District Director must notify the National AAU Office of when and where the meetingto determine the dates and locations of their District Qualifying Tournaments (DQT) will be. This must bedone no less than 30 days prior to said meeting and no less than 90 days prior to the first Tournament. Thisnotification shall in no case be later than January 31 in the year of competition. If any Director fails to maketimely notification, then the National Girls’ Basketball Chair shall have the authority to establish a date andlocation, send notice to all current and previous year registered clubs, and send a representative of theNational Girls’ Basketball Executive Committee to facilitate the proceedings.

Qualifying Requirements-Athletes and teams that have qualified in their respective DQT and or SRT will be eligible to compete in theNational Championship held during that calendar year.

-Districts, which do not field and play a minimum of 3 teams from at least 2, separate AAU clubs in their agedivision Qualifying Tournament shall not be eligible to participate in the D-I National Championships, unlessqualifying in a SRT. They may, however, participate in a Division II National Championship.

-Procedures for advancing to National Championships:

Division I and Division II

Districts may have separate D-I and D-II brackets in their District Qualifying Tournament (DQT) withno crossover required. All teams, both D-I & D-II, will count toward sending teams to the NationalChampionship tournaments. However, teams playing in a D-II bracket qualify only for D-IItournaments. D-I bracket teams can qualify for either D-II or National Championship tournaments. If ateam in D-I qualifies for the National Championship, they cannot play in D-II. (Both athlete &team) Any team that does not qualify for D-I is eligible to play in their respective D-II NationalChampionship. Teams that qualify for D-I or D-II may pick up a player from D-II. (See additional rulesin the Handbook regarding “pick-up” players.)

*Participation is generally defined as a registered team that has actually played in its District QualifyingTournament. A registered team that does not play any of its games shall not be counted as a participatingteam. Exceptions to this may be granted by the National Chair.

-In the event a qualified first, second, third, or fourth place team from a District tournament relinquishes itsright to play in the National Championships:

1. The team must notify the District Girls’ Basketball Director by certified letter of its inability to fulfillits obligation to participate.

2. Upon receipt of the certified letter, the District Girls’ Basketball Director shall select, in descendingorder of qualification, the teams to fill the announced vacancies and notify the AAU Girls’Basketball National Certification Chair of these changes.

3. Exceptions to the above may be granted by the National Chair.

-No District may be represented at the National Championships by more teams than it qualified thru theirDQT or Final Four National finish or SRT. The Host Organization (LOC), is granted an additional positionfor a Host Team.

Notification-Each District Girls’ Basketball Director or Tournament Director is to notify the AAU National Headquartersof the sites and dates of District Qualifying Tournaments 3 weeks prior to their beginning (copy oftournament information sheet). Failure to do so could result in forfeiture of qualifying teams’ right toadvance.

Awards-District and Regional Qualifying Tournaments must give AAU medals to the winning participants. Requestawards through the AAU National Headquarters.

ENTRY PACKETS-DISTRICT GIRLS’ BASKETBALL DIRECTORS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR SEEING THAT ALLQUALIFYING TEAMS RECEIVE THE NATIONAL ENTRY PACKET AND FOR SENDING “PROOFOF TOURNAMENTS.” THE AAU NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS MUST BE INFORMED OF THENUMBER AND THE DESTINATION OF PACKETS TO BE SENT.

Dividing Districts to Qualify for Nationals-If a district consists of two or more states, the District has the option of conducting individual StateChampionships for any or all sports. Champions resulting from such competition shall have the right toadvance to Regional Championships and/or National Championship. Athletes within the District maycompete in only one such State Championship, per sport, within the District. Athletes from each State shallbe governed by residency requirements as if they reside in different District. The advancing teams mustidentify themselves in entry information by using District/State (i.e., Southeastern/Tennessee,Southeastern/Alabama).

Top Four Districts in 2005 National TournamentsDistricts that finished in the top four of the 2005 National Championship will get anadditional bid to the 2006 Division I National Championship.

The 18/u & 19/u Divisions are open events. Any team eligible by age, residence and membership may participate in therespective AAUI National Championship without participating in a district Qualifying Tournament (DQT). However,teams in each age division must participate in their DQT to retain any seed earned from the 2005 17/u Tournament.

Super Regional TournamentsPlease visit our website www.aaugirlsbasketball.org for a complete list of Super Regional Tournaments(SRT). AUTOMATIC BIDS: Teams that finish first (1st.) or second (2nd) in any SRT may receive anautomatic bid to the D-I National Championship Tournament. The following table will determine thenumber of teams.

4 to 9 teams = 1 team may advance10+ Teams = 2 teams may advance

Qualifiers must also participate in their District Qualifier, if offered. However, the National Chair may allowa team who has qualified for Nationals through a SRT, NOT to have to participate in their DQT, if he feelsthe circumstances warrant an exemption. After a team qualifies, whether in a SRT or DQT, and then finisheshigh enough to qualify in a subsequent Tournament, the next highest team in that subsequent Tournamentwill also qualify for the Division I National Championship.Teams from Canada & Mexico may qualify for a Division - I National Championship through a SuperRegional Tournament (SRT).

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPSEntry Materials

-ALL ENTRIES TO THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHP MUST BE SENT BY THE ADVANCING TEAMTO THE NATIONAL CHAIR OR THEIR DESIGNEE AND THE NATIONAL TOURNAMENTDIRECTOR BY UPS OVERNIGHT, FEDEX OR AIRBORNE EXPRESS, TO BE RECEIVED NO LATERTHAN THE DEADLINE DATE.-Teams whose paperwork is incomplete and/or not received by the entry deadline will not be accepted intothe tournament and will not be drawn into the brackets. No team will be entered in the NationalChampionship that fails to meet all entry requirements.

Eligibility Questions-Any questions pertaining to the eligibility of a player or team shall be directed to the National Chair orhis/her designee. No member of the LOC committee shall have the authority to rule on eligibility.

AAU Junior Olympic GamesThe National Championship that is held as part of the AAU Junior Olympic Games is different in manyways:

-Each District (excluding Host and those Districts that have separate state qualifiers that choose to haveseparate teams for each entity) may send 2 teams to the AAU Junior Olympic Games.

-The criterion for qualification and team composition is to be determined by each District.

-Athletes in the AAU Junior Olympic Games are not required to have previously registered or participated inthe AAU, but must have high school eligibility remaining for the 2005-2006 school year. They must havecurrent AAU membership.

-The National Chair may designate additional at large teams from any District.

-A team that has qualified for other National Championships must participate in that championship in orderto participate in the JO games. If the qualifying team does not participate, then no member of said team mayparticipate in the Junior Olympic Games without special permission from the National Chair.

-Athletes may have participated in any age division of the program.

-Participants may change teams/clubs for this competition without having to transfer.

Proof of TournamentDistrict Girls’ Basketball Director or Tournament Director must forward the following list of items to theNational Certification Chair. These proofs should be received 3 weeks after the DQT or SRT OR by theentry deadline for the Nationals, whichever is EARLIER.

1. All actual roster sheets used in the Qualifying Tournament2. All score book sheets from the Qualifying Tournament3. Qualifying Tournament bracket showing team names, scores, and dates of play.

Host Team-The AAU District that is host to a National Championship is allowed to enter a team directly from thatDistrict if it meets all AAU Girls’ Basketball requirements and the said team has participated in its DistrictQualifying Tournament. The Host Team is in addition to the teams that qualified and shall benamed by the organization hosting the Championship. The place of finish shall have nobearing on the naming of this Host Team.

Tournament Format-All AAU Girls’ Basketball National Championships shall begin by using the pool play format. In the 9,10, 11, 12 & 13/u D-I National Championships there will be a maximum of five (5) and a minimumof four (4) teams in each pool. The top 2 teams from each pool will advance to the Championshipdouble elimination bracket. All teams that do not advance to the Championship bracket mayparticipate in the consolation National Classic at no additional cost. National Classic participantswill go directly into a Modified Double Elimination Bracket with no “IF” game.

-A coach from each team wishing to continue in either the Championship or National Classic bracket may berequired to check-in with the Tournament Office at the conclusion of pool play to determine their position.

-In the 14, 15, 16, 18 & 19/u D-I National Championships there will be a maximum of six (6)and a minimum of five (5) teams in each pool with every team advancing to a singleelimination bracket. Teams will be seeded by the way they finish in their respective pools.There will be no National Classic in these five Divisions. Circumstances may requireadjustments to the prescribed format. The National Chair shall make the final decision on anyadjustment.

TIEBREAKER - In Pool Play where 2 teams are tied, “head-to- head” competition between the 2 teams willdetermine the winner. If more than 2 teams are tied, a point differential (maximum of 13 points) Tiebreakerwill be applied. The point differentials of each game are totaled and the teams are ranked accordingly. In thecase of a three-way-tie, the team with the most points is declared the top team, the team with the next mostpoints is second and the team with the third most points is third.

-In case of a three or four-way tie with points all even, then you choose from the following:a. Flip of coin with odd man out until there are only two (2) left and then refer back to the original

head-to-head. ALL COACHES MUST AGREE TO THE FLIP.b. If coaches cannot agree to the coin flip, then the tied teams will play a 5-minute round robin with

total points counting in the round robin. The team or teams with the highest number of points wins.The Tournament Director will handle the coin flip and/or round robin. The Director will determinewhen the round robin will be held with no appeal. NOTE: All teams will be in the bonus.

Tournament Draw-16 Districts will be seeded from the previous year’s National Championships. A blind draw shall be

made for all other entries. (Example: The 13/U will be seeded by last year’s 12/U finish, etc.However, the 9/U, AAU Junior Olympic Games, and D-II’s are a blind draw.)

-Blind draws shall begin with the remaining Districts 1st place finishers, followed by 2nd place, then 3rd

and 4th place finishers. Teams qualifying from a Super Regional Tournament shall be place in theblind draw in the same manner.

-The draw will be held at the AAU National Headquarters the week following the deadline for entries tobe received. The Commissioner-In-Charge, Tournament Director, Tournament Coordinator, andNational Chair or his/her designee shall administer the draw.

-Teams finishing first and second in the same pool will advance to the opposite side of the Championshipbracket as will third and fourth place and fifth and sixth finishers.

-If a seeded team is unable to attend, but notifies the National Chair prior to the entry deadline date, allother seeded teams below would move up one in the bracket. However, no 17th place team will beseeded.

-If a team is unable to attend after making their official entry, a new POOL will NOT be drawn. Instead,a BYE will appear on the bracket.

-The Host Team and the Host District Champion shall be drawn into opposite pools for the Nationaltournament.

-Teams from the same District will be put in different pools.-NO REFUND OF FEES WILL BE MADE AFTER THE DRAW HAS BEEN COMPLETED:

Registration-A team and all available members of that team shall attend registration during the assigned registration

time.-Registration at all National Tournaments will begin at 10:00 a m. (The National Chair may make

adjustments to the Registration Times if numbers dictate.) A late athlete must register before shetakes part in any game. Penalty: All games she participated in may be forfeited if she fails toregister.

-All athletes and coaches must show their AAU membership verification at the time of Registration. Ifverification is lost or cannot be produced, another one may be purchased at that time with no refund.

-A late athlete may register at any time before the conclusion of play in all National Tournaments.

-Any athlete that participates before she registers may forfeit her eligibility for the remainder of thetournament and the team may forfeit any game in which she participated. IT IS THE COACH’SRESPONSIBILITY TO FIND THE AAU COMMISSIONER FOR LATE REGISTRATION.

Venues-Host may not change a competition venue after the site inspection and execution of the contract without

the approval of the lead Commissioner assigned to the Tournament; any violation may subject Hostto a fine.

Meetings-Coaches should attend a pre-Tournament meeting at the National Championship or designate a

representative on their behalf. Failure to attend this Coaches’ Meeting and to check-in at theconclusion of pool play may result in loss of valuable information and even a forfeit.

-The Complete Athlete program is mandatory in the age divisions where it is presented. If a team fails toattend this program, the HEAD coach may be suspended from coaching the team’s next game.He/she may not be allowed in the playing venue where the team is competing.

Opening Ceremony Attire-Athletes and coaches may wear their game uniforms, team warm-up uniforms or AAU t-shirts

distributed at registration. No hats may be worn. There should be no throwing of items during theopening ceremony.

Program-Each head coach shall receive a National Championship program.

Warm-UpParticipating teams are encouraged to bring their team fight song or state song. Music may be played

during warm-up period over venue’s p.a. system or on portable music system. If both teams providemusic, music shall be alternated.

Coach’s Conduct-In a National Championship, if a coach receives two technical fouls, he/she shall leave the game and

the facility as well. The ejected coach may not coach the next game. However, if in a subsequentgame, the same coach again receives two technical fouls, he/she shall be removed from thecompetition venue and will not be allowed to coach the remainder of the tournament. Coachesmust sign Coach’s Code of Ethics at registration.

Coaching Restrictions-National Championship Tournament Directors CANNOT coach any team competing in the National

Championships for which he/she is director. No National Executive Committee member mayfunction as a member of that committee if he/she is coaching in that tournament.

Officials-Official may not work a game involving a team from the District where that official works or lives.-Division I National Championships for 12/u, 13/U, 14/U, 15/U, 16/U, 18/U, 19/U, and AAU Junior

Olympic Games shall utilize 3-person officiating crews. The decision on the other Tournaments shallrest with the local tournament director and the referee representative of the Executive Committee.Officiating crews must remain consistent throughout the entire tournament.

Awards-Each athlete and registered coach on the top eight finishing teams will receive a finalist medal and the

top four teams will receive a trophy.

-All trophies and awards will be ordered by the National Executive Committee and billed to the HostCommittee.

-All-American Awards shall be presented in the 16/U, 18/U, and 19/U divisions only.

-National Classic trophies and medals shall be awarded to the top four teams in the 9 to 13 age divisions.There is no National Classic Tournament for the 14/u, 15/u, 16/u, 18/u & 19/u age divisions, theGrade Based Events or in any Tournament with less than 33 entries.

Disciplinary CommitteeThe Disciplinary Committee at the National Championship Tournament will consist of:1. The Tournament Director will be the Chair.2. The Tournament Coordinator3. Two members of the National Executive Committee attending4. The Referee Assignor

Bid Procedures-National Championship bids are awarded at the AAU Convention. Presentations shall be coordinated

through a designated Executive Committee member. Each bid will be presented to the Bid SelectionCommittee (BSC), which will present recommendations to the delegates attending the annualmeeting at the National Convention for approval or rejection. The BSC shall be comprised of theExecutive Committee and two representatives from each of the four (4) AAU Zones. If only one bidis received, the Executive Committee is not required to, but may, approve that bid or wait until suchtime as other bids might be obtained. The Executive Committee may award any NationalChampionship not awarded at the AAU Convention. Audiovisual presentations are subject toavailability and are the responsibility of each presenter. Whenever possible, tournaments will beawarded 2 years in advance. Bids will be awarded for the year 2008 at the 2006 Convention.

National ChampionshipsAny National Championship host organization is required to have its Tournament Director or their

representative attend the National Championship the year before they are to host. Said representativeshall take part in registration, observe Opening Ceremonies, monitor daily operations, and meet withthe local host and AAU Executive Committee members in attendance. The Host must also attend ameeting of all current year hosts as arranged by the AAU Girls’ Basketball Committee.

INTERNATIONAL CULTURAL EXCHANGE PROGRAMSPolicy-Any international cultural exchange program and related activities MUST be coordinated with and

approved by the AAU National Headquarters and the Officers of the Union with NO EXCEPTIONS.Contact AAU National Headquarters for approval forms and letters to be forwarded to USABasketball six to eight weeks prior to the planned departure.

-International Players are not allowed to play in the Division - I National Championships.-International teams are allowed to participate in the D - II National Championships, provided they

purchase AAU Membership and are eligible by age restrictions.

NCAA UNIFORM RULESEach team participating in any AAU National Tournament must have two different color team jerseys,

light & dark. Beginning in 2007 one jersey must be white.(From Section 5)a. Team shirts shall be of the same solid color front and back. A player’s shirt designed to be worn

inside the game pants shall be tucked inside the game pants. An undershirt is considered to be part ofthe shirt and must be a color similar to the shirt. No logos, decorations, trim, commemorativepatches, lettering or numbering may be used on an undershirt. An illegal undershirt may not be worn.

b. Tights that extend below the game pants must be similar in color to the game pants.c. No more than two identifying names or abbreviations of the names may be placed on either, or on

both, the front and back of the shirt. The name(s) must conform to the following:Placement must be such that the number(s) is clearly visible.

d. Each player shall be numbered on the front and back of the shirt with plain Arabic numerals.The following numbers are legal: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 00, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 30, 31,

32, 33, 34, 35, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 50, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55. (But double zero and zero cannot both beused for the same team)

The number shall be at least 6 inches high on the back and at least 4 inches high on the front and not lessthan 3/4-inch width.

Chair Duties and ResponsibilitiesNational ChairThe primary responsibility of the National Chair for AAU Girls’ Basketball is to plan, coordinate, and

facilitate the conduct of the national program, in particular, the National Championships. The AAUGirls’ Basketball Committee shall elect the National Chair, subject to the approval of the AAUNational President.

1. Coordinate all activities of the AAU Girls’ Basketball Program with the Executive Committee,Commissioners, Boards, and AAU National Headquarters.

2. Plan and chair annual meeting of the AAU Girls’ Basketball Committee. Plan and chair ExecutiveCommittee and Commissioner Meetings as needed.

3. Represent and speak about AAU Girls’ Basketball to other organizations, particularly otherorganizations involved with the sport of basketball, such as USA Basketball and the Women’sBasketball Coaches Association (WBCA).

4. Promote participation in AAU Girls’ Basketball.5. Oversee all elements of the program from publications to “sponsorship.”6. Perform other duties and responsibilities as necessary.

Certification ChairThe primary responsibility of the National Certification Chair for AAU Girls’ Basketball is to verify

team and individual athlete eligibility for the AAU Girls’ Basketball National Championships. TheAAU Girls’ Basketball Committee shall elect the Certification Chair.

1. Verify team eligibility for those teams advancing to the AAU Girls’ Basketball NationalChampionships.

2. Verify individual athlete eligibility for those teams advancing to the AAU Girls’ Basketball NationalChampionships.

3. Represent and speak about AAU Girls’ Basketball to other organizations.4. Promote participation in AAU Girls’ Basketball.5. Act in an advisory capacity at AAU National Championships.

CommissionersThe National Chair shall appoint Commissioners to assist in the conduct of the business of AAU Girls’

Basketball.Director of OfficialsThe National Chair shall appoint the Director of Officials. The primary responsibility of the Director of

Officials or their designee for AAU Girls’ Basketball is to recruit, coordinate, contract and approveall assignments of national officials to the AAU Girls’ Basketball National Championships.

GLOSSARY OF TERMSAAU - The abbreviation for the Amateur Athletic Union of the United States, Inc. AAU refers to the entirenational organization. The AAU is a national organization composed of affiliated Districts, authorized to workwith sport- oriented groups, in the administration and development of sports at all appropriate levels.

AAU Year - September 1st to August 31st.

AAU Junior Olympic Games (JOG) - In Girls’ basketball each District can send 2 teams to the JOG with noqualifying tournament being held. Also other teams may petition the National Chair to be given an invitation toplay in the tournament. In this Tournament all athletes must have at least one more year of high school eligibilityremaining.

Age Determining Date (ADD) - Date used to determine what age group an athlete may compete. Girls’ ADD isJan. 1 of the year of competition.

Birth Record - Certified record of birth showing date and other information. Must be a copy of a State record ofbirth (not a hospital record or mother's copy). A State issued drivers license

Code of Ethics - Code signed and agreed to by coaches concerning their conduct as AAU coaches.

Complete Athlete Program - Program that is required by AAU Girls Basketball and the NCAA to coversuch items as recruiting, grades, sportsmanship, etc.

District - A group of clubs, organizations, groups, and individuals in a certain geographic area, which has beenchartered by the AAU Congress as a member of the AAU to provide administrative services for amateur sportsand to foster AAU sports programs. There are currently 56 AAU Districts across the United States.

District Director - Person elected in each District to Chair a certain sport.

District Qualifying Tournament (DQT) - Tournament held by each District to determine who advances tothe different NATIONAL TOURNAMENTS

Division I (D-I) - Teams that are qualify through one of the above Tournaments.

Division II (D-II) - Teams that did not qualify for the Division I Tournament are automatically eligible forD-II.

Grade Based Tournament – (New in 2006) Event where competition divisions are determined primarily bygrade.

National Qualifier - Team or athlete that earned a position in a National Tournament by placing in an DQTor SRT.

National Championship - Winner of a certain age group at a National Championship Tournament.

Sanction - The written approval of the AAU to authorize registered athletes to participate in a specific competition oractivity This sanction provides the Host Club with the best General Liability coverage in amateur sport.

Spring Fling - Super Regional Tournament held at Disney.

Super Regional (SRT) - Invitational Tournament placed across the US to give teams an additionalopportunity to qualify for the D-I National Championship.
