Austin Blackmon is Boston's newly appointed Chief of Environment, Energy and Open Space. Most recently, Blackmon served as Interim Head of Project Finance at Terraverde Renewable Partners, a clean energy consulting firm. His experience also includes positions at C12 Energy, Wells Fargo Securities' Energy Group and Booz Allen Hamilton's Strategy and Organization consulting practice. He also advised US Renewables Group by evaluating potential investments in waste recovery solutions. Blackmon is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Business School.

Environment, Energy, and Open Space Cabinet The mission of the Environment, Energy and Open Space Cabinet is to preserve and enhance the resources of our built and natural environment, to promote affordable, efficient, reliable and safe energy systems, and to provide clean, green, safe and accessible open space for residents and visitors.

The Cabinet oversees the Inspectional Services Department, the Environment Department, the Parks and Recreation Department, and oversees programs and policies on energy efficiency, green buildings, groundwater, park planning, recycling, renewable energy, and certain transportation issues.

Ruth Silman concentrates her practice on complex environmental and land use matters. She leads Nixon Peabodys Climate Change Team, a group of lawyers and environmental scientists/engineers who are assisting the firms energy, industrial, and financial clients to meet the challenges and seize the opportunities emerging from legislative, regulatory, and judicial responses to the issue of climate change. Ruth represents clients concerning the land use implications of complex real estate transactions, including zoning, environmental impacts, permitting, and compliance. Her extensive environmental experience includes addressing air quality, hazardous waste assessment and remediation, brownfields redevelopment, wetlands protection, stormwater, wastewater, septic system, and water quality issues at the federal, state, and local level. Ruth advises clients regarding environmental management systems and environmental audits. Ruth provides support to real estate transactions, including due diligence and advice regarding appropriate contractual protections and environmental insurance. Ruth has represented clients before state and federal courts and administrative agencies in environmental and land use litigation matters. She is involved in renewable energy efforts, including representing solar energy and wind power developers. Her experience spans various subjects including the development, permitting, construction, and operation of renewable energy facilities.
