AEM CON EXPO CON /AGG EXHIBITOR MEETING

On Wednesday May 15th Tim Charles and I at-tended the AEM Exhibitor Meeting at the Interconti-nental Chicago O’Hare Hotel in

Sales & Marketing Writes... Rosemont, IL. The meeting was de-signed to give an overview of the tools offered by AEM to help exhibitor’s better market themselves for the up-coming 2014 CON EXPO - CON/AGG. Of course, the Expo is every three years, so a lot of time and effort goes into early planning to help maxi-mize exposure. We were able to discover many tools being offered by AEM and how those tools can be tailored to help Pierce

have a broader presence leading up to and during the week of the CON EXPO. There were many AEM mem-bers in attendance, which shows how important the CON EXPO is to manu-facturers. AEM did a very nice job engaging members with presenta-tions, numerous breakout sessions and one on one meetings. Once again, we are excited about being a part of the upcoming show in 2014! Corporate Quality Writes... In this month’s edition of the Cor-porate Quality Newsletter, I’ll share with you how the recent ISO Surveillance Audit from Intertek went for the Plant 2 Team.

First a brief explanation of what this does for Pierce and Plant 2. The ISO Certification provides Cus-tomers, both existing and potential, a guarantee that Plant 2 has an effective Quality Management System (QMS) in place that will take every effort to meet their expectations in Quality, Delivery, and Value…like our Quality Policy Statement indicates. It lets the Cus-tomer know that the Management Team and the Associates are dedi-cated to providing the best products and services possible. There are three purposes of the Sur-veillance Audit; - To ensure that we still meet the crite-ria for continued certification. - To find out whether our Quality Man-agement System (QMS) really works in everyday operations, or not. - To provide constructive feedback about the effectiveness of our QMS, what we do well and what we need to improve upon if applicable.

The audit was scheduled to begin April 24, 2013 at 8am. We were ready, though many at Plant 2 had some understandable measure of trepidation. But not our fearless leader, Larry Hickey, a former Quality Manager and veteran of numerous audits throughout his career; both he and I were certain all would go as planned. It did. Our Lead Auditor, Gary Evans, a for-mer General Manager of two Ford plants in Michigan, arrived at 8am as scheduled; we exchanged greetings and small talk during the Opening Meeting and then set about the task at hand – Surveillance Audit (2) of the Quality Management System of Plant 2 under the ISO 9001:2008 Audit Cri-teria. First on the agenda was the Review of Key Processes. This was brief and uneventful. We then looked at the evi-dence of Customer Satisfaction. We presented all of the available score cards we received from Paccar, SPX, Donaldson. Gary found these docu-ments to be sufficient and then re-quested our 2012 Internal Audit and Management Review evidence. He spent quite a bit of time combing over

these items. Next was review of Goals & Objectives followed by lunch. After a tasty meal and glib banter, we resumed the audit with a site tour. Gary met Leticia Medrano, Maria Medrano, Israel Galvan, Frankie Wil-liams, Lisa George, Linda Ross, Ken Holze, and Beth Futrell. He greeted all, interviewed a few, and learned a little about how our processes oper-ated from Frankie and Leticia. Gary then looked at our Corrective and Preventive Action, and Records Control evidence at length while Larry and I went back to our daily tasks. Larry and I were summoned back to the conference room at about 3pm. We discussed Continual Improvement, Goals and Objectives and his observa-tions throughout his visit. As part of the Closing Meeting, he remarked that in his experience he had never seen a more professionally presented Internal Audit and Management Review proc-ess and that we utilized certain quality tools in a way he had never seen be-fore. He indicated that our system may be more complex than needed but that continual improvement was more than evident. Gary commented that it was plainly obvious that Plant 2 has a Dedicated Management Team. The audit was a complete success thanks to the teamwork of the entire Plant 2 team. Change can be difficult, but without change, improvement can-

Hello from An-drea Scott, Office Adminis-trator for the Doosan Infra-core Portable Power Ac-count!!! It’s hard to be-lieve it has

been a month since we transferred Doosan from Plant 3 in Boling-brook, Illinois to Plant 2 in Rock-ford, Illinois. Our Team has worked very hard to make this transition run as smoothly as possible, and we are privileged to have such dedicated employees. Fernando Patino, our warehouse supervisor, did a tremendous job coordinating this transition. Ana Garcia is our shipping coordinator and Laura Garcia assists in all ar-eas. They all worked very hard to make sure we kept up during the proc-ess. Jose Garcia, our wood shop lead, trained our new employee, Justin Soderberg. They make a great team! Nate Soderberg is also a new em-ployee, but in the short time he has been here he has helped in every area and recently has been learn-ing some data entry. We also have three packers who have done an outstanding job keeping the process running like a well oiled machine, without any packaging errors. They are Josh Swinbank, Bertha A. Gonzalez and Juana Medrano. I would like to thank all of them for their hard work! I would also like to thank Larry Hickey; our Plant Manager at Plant 2 here in Rockford for welcoming us with open arms. He and every-one else here was very accommo-dating. We feel right at home.

Metso and Pierce Family Fun Day was held on May 4, 2013 at the Riverbanks Zoo here in Columbia, South Carolina. We had a wonder-ful time at the zoo. Employees were meeting, greeting and intro-ducing their spouses and children to their co-workers. The weather was a bit of a problem at first, thought it was going to ruin our day...but we had a wonderful turn-out. It looked like it was going to pour down rain on us, but it didn’t and turned out to a lovely day. The menu was delicious. Here are some pictures at the Zoo:

WOW! WHAT A SMILE!Helping others is the name of the game as far as John

Walker, Plant 7's Inventory Con-trol/Material Coordinator guy, is concerned. According to his su-pervisor, Tracey Strawn, John always goes above and beyond his regular job responsibilities to keep people happy - he goes the extra mile. Keeping up with the daily inventory is a full time job responsibility for all three shifts. Kits/Export supervisor, Kristi Tay-lor, chimed in with many positive statements on how John spoils the ladies in the office, by not only bringing them paper supplies, but by always putting the paper in the machines. With almost perfect attendance John keeps the pack line/tables furnished with supplies so the runners don't have to pull anything other than cartons. John

makes the forklift go, and go, and go! He assists Jackey Jack-son, Komatsu Representative, by making sure she never runs out of Komatsu forms, as well as reporting to his supervisor, Tracey, the supply needs for all departments. To meet morning deadlines, John waits until after 1:00PM to take his lunch break - and never complains. John does not have to do the things he does, he just wants to make things easy for others and al-ways with the BIG smile! John is married to the wonderful and loving, Shekita. They have three children, Ka'Maree, age 2, Wal-ter, age 17 and Rebecca, age 18. Walter and Rebecca gradu-ated from Ripley High School on May 16th. Walter plans on at-tending TN Tech and become an occupational therapist. Re-becca is interested in nursing and hopes to begin her studies at the Ripley TN Technology Center and eventually earn her BSN in nursing. John is a big sports fan - his basketball team is the San Antonio Spurs (and he

states he will not be supporting our local Memphis Grizzlies). His pick in football is (and always will be) the Dallas Cowboys. John is active in his church as he drives the church van to pick up the youth on both Wedneday nights and Sunday mornings. On Saturday you will find him at a local gym (Lauderdale Middle School) working with youngsters preparing them for the game of bas-ketball - teaching young people the fundamentals of the game and the game of life is important to our John Walker. Congratulations John - we're proud of you.

Ethan Beasley, five year old grandson of HR Manager, Mike Moore (Plant 7) gradu-ated from Ripley First Baptist Church's Pre-School on May 15th. Ethan "surprised' the congregation (and his parents) by leading the class in singing "You're A Grand Old Flag". His future plans include starting to Kindergarten at Halls Elementary and becoming a Fire Fighter or maybe a Race Car Driver, or even join the family of Duck Dynasty. Ethan, your Gran is proud of you.

Ms. Heddie Henderson is proud to announce her daughter, Kimberly Campbell, will be graduating from the University of Tennessee at Martin in July 2013. Kimberly was born in Memphis, TN, before mov-ing to East St. Louis, IL at the age of five. A high school cheerleader, she graduated from Cahokia Sen-ior High School in 2006. Before moving to Tennessee in 2010, she attended South West Illinois Col-lege. In 2010 Kimberly worked at Pierce Distribution (through SOS temp agency) until 2012 when she entered UT-Martin. Kimberly plans on continuing her education at Jackson State Community College to receive her Nursing Degree as she wants to fulfill her goal of be-coming a registered nurse. These are the words of Plant 7’s Tracy Brown (2nd Shift, Tokyo Sorter). Tracy attended the high school graduation of her son, Bran-don Albertsen. Brandon lives with his Dad, who is stationed at Pearl Harbor Navel Base on the Big Is-land of Hawaii. Brandon was among 500+ seniors gradu-ating from Kapolei High on May 17th. As a student he was active on the Wrestling Team, played alto saxo-phone in the Kapolei Con-cert Band, member of the Art Club and Young Entre-preneur Club. As a young entrepreneur he accepted the challenge of creating a business which he named “Barefoot Boards” where he designed, built and sold cus-tom designed skateboards. Brandon will continue his education in Tennessee by taking business classes at Dyersburg State in the fall. Thanks, Tracy, for shar-ing your story about your trip to Hawaii and Good Luck to Brandon – keep us informed of his future successes.

Komatsu Hosts Fundraiser “Bubba’s BBQ”

On May 3, 2013, Koma-tsu hosted their annual Relay for Life fundrais-ing luncheon. Pierce Distribution Associates participated by purchas-

ing lunches consisting of pork barbe-

que sandwiches, cole slaw, chips and tea for $3. Members of Komatsu’s Management Team demonstrated their dedication to the cause as they manned the grills during the rain. Lunch was delicious and all enjoyed the courteous service of Komatsu’s volunteers who served with a smile.

Despite this years inclement weather, this year’s fundraiser was another big success as they raised over $1,500.00 for Relay for Life. Great Job!

L-R under the grill tent are Bubba Stallings, Mike Barnet, Lewis Tanner, Perry Rautmann.

L-R overseeing the service of the lunch are Brandi Smith, Kay Jordon, Michelle Maclin, Bridget Jarrett, Bonnie Stewart and Amy Torres.

On May 10th, Plant 7 hosted a gathering to say goodbye to our Komatsu Repre-sentative, Beth Palmer. Beth has been with Pierce a little over eight years and will be missed, not only for her out-standing work, but for her quick wit and friendship to our associates. Beth is re-turning to her home in Michigan to help care for aging parents. We admire her for taking on this new responsibility and wish her the best. Many wonderful and priceless stories were shared by staff members during the event. We love you, Beth!

Pierce—Ripley Holds Semi-Annual Blood Drive The Ripley plant participated in their semi-annual Lifeblood drive in April. A letter of appreciation was received from Lorie Campbell-Nowlin, our Life-blood representative, acknowledging 31 units from 36 volunteers. This is two units more than our previous drive in October of 2012. Under the organi-zation of Carley Strawn, the day long event went very smoothly. We had several first time donors, including Da-kota Strawn, who stated he was little afraid at first, but felt it was for a good cause. Rachel Langley is always on the volunteer list and states she gives blood to help keep the blood supply going. It's the right thing to do for the next person that might need it and I love the little "giveaways" that Life-blood gives to the donors. Mike Moore, HR Manager, states that my Mom recently was hospitalized and received 6 units of blood - it my way of giving back. The other exciting part of this year's drive, we had more volun-teers than Lifeblood had time to serve. That's a great problem to have. Again, a special thanks to all of our blood donor VOLUNTEERS!

I would like to welcome back Sandra Hernan-dez. Sandra’s realm of respon-sibilities include, Bill of Lading creation for all LTL customer orders, setting

up LTL pickups, auditing Mustang, Gehl, and Manitou customer or-ders for quality, identifying open orders for shipment and prioritizing LTL truck shipments for packing and shipment. Sandra is very reli-able, consistent in her work and a quick thinker; hovering over the department with high expectations of work quality, precision and per-formance. We appreciate her strengths in this operation. Our Associate of the Month was easier to select. Jhon Gavaria is quite a guy. He oversees the Inter-national Department and Canadian order fulfillments. Jhon works very closely with our customer, Manitou Group headquartered out of West Bend, WI while consolidating and shipping all International customer orders. Jhon also processes 90% of the daily Canadian shipments. Jhon exhibits stellar performance in all he puts his hands to. Jhon is consistent, disciplined and has a great sense of humor. We recog-nize his strengths and efforts this month and want to say thank you on who you are and what you do in this operation. Those who assist with the physical aspects of bulk packaging are Don Rasmussen, Eric Zigler and Tom Monson and they all do a great job insuring the truck and international orders are packaged with care and quality. Keep up the great work!

Warmer weather!!! I love this. I love driving down the street and seeing all the green! It was a long time

getting here and I love it! It’s just nice to get outside after a long winter and a rainy spring. It puts everyone in a better mood! One of our ladies in the office, Kate Montgomery, is expecting her first baby in July. We had a surprise baby shower for her. She was extremely surprised and very grateful for all the gifts. She is having a boy, and his name is Jaxon. We all can’t wait for the little guy to get here. She lives just down the street from us so hopefully we will get to see a lot of him. We only had two birthdays this month. Happy Birthday to Tom Monson and Jack Hunt! Tom is the only one in the picture as Jack was absent the week I was working on the newsletter. Sorry Jack!! Congratulations to Jhon Gaviria on receiving the “Associate of the Month” award this month. It is well deserved. Jhon is one of those people who you can al-ways count on to be here. He has a perfect attendance re-cord!! Way to go Jhon…we all appreciate what you do for us each and EVERY day!

proving the turn time on arrivals each week. Seeing an empty floor by 5 pm is a great thing! I believe in all of you, so keep striving for 13 LPH and keep striving for “Best in Class”. Thank you to all the departments for your hard work and cooperation when asked to learn new jobs or to assist in other departments. Sometimes it can be hard step-ping out of your comfort zone to changes. The benefits of the cross training we do with our associates gives them chances to learn new positions and open up doors for future opportunities and growth throughout the com-pany. Remember change is GOOD! Melissa Knox has been cross training and assisting Ash-ley Kettner in the Returns De-partment. Melissa has done a wonderful job keeping up with the work load. Returns are never dull, new situations come her way daily. Melissa enjoys the detective work and stories be-hind each return that is handled, especially the orders that come back with no paperwork! Those are the real challenges. On a really crazy day, Melissa gets to work side by side with Wesley Hryszczuk learning QC tips that help her get to the root problem of a defective parts return. Keep up the great job, Melissa, and continue to thrive in what you do! Also, congratulations to Jhon Gaviria for receiving “Associate of the Month” honors!! Great job Jhon!

Hello from the shipping depart-ment at Plant 8. The weather the last couple of days has been beautiful and I hope all of you Mothers out there had a wonderful Mother’s Day! I

would like to thank the Shipping Depart-ment for all of your hard work which is keeping things going very well. We con-tinue to improve on both processes and procedures. I would like to congratulate this month’s Associate of the Month, Jhon Gaviria. Jhon takes care of all our international shipments, he packs, he picks, and processes all of these ship-ments on daily basis. Jhon, I don’t know what we would do without you. Thank you for all your hard work!!

My name is Ce-sar Martinez and I work at Pierce Distribution in Belvidere, IL. I have been work-ing at Pierce for about a year now and it has been an amazing ex-

perience. I began my employment with Pierce on the packing line, moved up to the truck department, then to picking, and also to do delivery notes. I also trained on UPS Worldship. I am currently working on the re-warehousing Team. My daily duties consist of taking parts from location to lo-cation and basically organizing the whole warehouse. My life outside of work con-sists of being a husband to my wife and a father to my one year old son. Overall, working at Pierce has been the best job experience I’ve ever had!
