I know most of you had major cleanup to do after our hailstorm, and some had damage to roofs and landscaping. It was unfortunate that Joe York had just completed the landscaping in the entrance, but it will be redone. For any of you with roof damage, please read the following carefully: The current verbiage in our C&Rs that describes the requirement for roofs is outdated. Shingles are no longer rated by pounds. We have verified that in order to meet our existing standards for roofs, the shingles must meet these requirements: Only 30 year or greater; dimensional, laminate or architectural shingles may be used for any home and shed. Three tab style shingles shall never be approved for use. Allowable shingles are Elk Prestique, GAF Timberline, Tamco Heritage 30, Owens Corning Oakridge or Owens Corning Duration. Other shingles may be used only with approval of the Architectural Committee As you are securing bids, it is your responsibility to make sure your roofer is adhering to these requirements. Anything less than this quality will be a direct violation of our standards. When an area is hit with extensive hail damage, roofers start coming out of the woodwork. Take the time to check out anyone you hire. It is always good to ask your insurance company for references. I have also secured the names of three reputable, highly recommended companies. ANNUAL HOA DUES We will be mailing out statements for the annual HOA dues on May 9 th in order to avoid the increase in postage that goes into affect on May 12 th . REMEMBER THAT DUES OF $150 ARE DUE BY JUNE 1 ST . Every year I emphasize how difficult the collection of the dues is when residents do not pay on time. We ask that if you are planning to leave town in early June, please mail your check before leaving. Also, as we have emphasized every year, if there are circumstances that prevent you from paying the entire amount when due, all you have to do is call me so we can set up a payment plan that meets your needs. You do not even have to tell me your circumstances. Your need for more time will be known only to our Treasurer and me. Those who have not paid by June 15 th , will receive a second notice. On July 1 st the third and final notice will be mailed. Two weeks after that, if the dues have not been paid and I have not been contacted to arrange a payment plan, the matter will go to our attorney at which time the resident will not only owe the $150, but also attorney fees. Remember that all the additional mailing of notices adds to the HOA’s postage, especially when we have to start sending certified letters. Please make it easy on yourself and me by paying on time. SAFETY TIP I wanted to restate a tip that was in last month’s newsletter concerning Mansfield’s emergency notification program. All you have to do is go to www.mansfield-tx.gov and click on the Code Red. You can enter your home and/or cell phone numbers, and you will be called anytime there a series weather situation. I know this works because my phone rang in the middle of the night. For years residents have wanted the city to install sirens, but this is much more effective. At least you can hear your phone when you are asleep. VOTING DAY Remember to go vote on May 10 th or in early voting that runs from April 28 th through May 6 th . Your vote is important. Timely Tip Calloway’s May Gardeners Crape Myrtles are one of the most popular summer flowering shrubs. They provide abundant summer blooms and vivid fall foliage while requiring minimum maintenance. Bloom colors range from red and pink to lavender and white. Crape Myrtles range in height from 3 feet to more than 20 feet tall. They do best planted in full sun. Prepare the soil with organic material such as Calloway’s Landscape Mix and dig the hole just as deep as the container and twice as wide. Water well after planting and apply 2 to 3 inches of mulch to the surface. Hand water at least once a week for the first year. Fertilize in early spring with a high nitrogen, lawn type fertilizer to stimulate healthy, early season growth. Later in early summer, switch to a flower promoting fertilizer such as Calloway’s Professional Crape Myrtle Food. Prune Crape Myrtles to only remove the seed heads or any branches which rub together. Do not “top” them as it will destroy their natural shape and beauty. Know the space requirements before planting, you do not want to try and control the size of a Crape Myrtle by pruning. There is no such thing as a perfect plant and the Crape Myrtle is no exception. Crapes are susceptible to Powdery Mildew and to aphids which will lead to Sooty Mold. We carry both organic and synthetic solutions; choose whichever program best suits your needs. Increase the value of your landscape and plant a Crape Myrtle. You will enjoy its beauty year round!

Zoo Job

One day an out of work mime is visiting the zoo and attempts to earn some money as a street performer. As soon as he starts to draw a crowd, a zoo keeper grabs him and drags him into his office. The zoo keeper explains to the mime that the zoo's most popular attraction, a gorilla, has died suddenly and the keeper fears that attendance at the zoo will fall off.

He offers the mime a job to dress up as the gorilla until they can get another one. The mime accepts. So the next morning the mime puts on the gorilla suit and enters the cage before the crowd comes. He discovers that it's a great job. He can sleep all he wants, play and make fun of people and he draws bigger crowds than he ever did as a mime. However, eventually the crowds tire of him and he tires of just swinging on tires. He begins to notice that the people are paying more attention to the lion in the cage next to his. Not wanting to lose the attention of his audience, he climbs to the top of his cage, crawls across a partition, and dangles from the top to the lion's cage. Of course, this makes the lion furi-ous, but the crowd loves it.

At the end of the day the zoo keeper comes and gives the mime a raise for being such a good attraction. Well, this goes on for some time, the mime keeps taunting the lion, the crowds grow larger, and his salary keeps going up. Then one terrible day when he is dangling over the furious lion he slips and falls. The mime is terrified.

The lion gathers itself and prepares to pounce. The mime is so scared that he begins to run round and round the cage with the lion close behind. Finally, the mime starts screaming and yelling, "Help me, help me!", but the lion is quick and pounces. The mime soon finds himself flat on his back looking up at the angry lion and the lion says, "Shut up you idiot! Do you want to get us both fired?"

PRE-VACATION TIPS FROM YOUR

FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD PLUMBER…

Dear Homeowner, Going on a well-deserved vacation? Before you pull out of the driveway, here are a few pre-vacation tips from a plumber’s perspective.

Devices that use water automatically (hot water dispensers, automatic ice makers, swamp coolers, water heaters, even toilets) can create major

problems while you’re gone. Think ahead. The hot-water dispenser should be unplugged. That’s a must! The water heater should also be turned off. Although the water supply to other devices can be turned off individually at

each unit, it’s even wiser to turn off the water at the main inlet to the home. This is the safest way to eliminate potential problems as long as the heaters also have been turned off at all water heating devices. One more thing… If you decide to turn off your water at the main source,

be sure this doesn’t prevent your irrigation system from operating. Nobody wants to come home to a scorched lawn.

Of course, it’s always a good idea to have a trusted friend or neighbor check your house every few days to make sure everything’s OK. Travel safely & enjoy! James Rowe James Rowe Plumbing, Inc. “The White Glove Plumber” (817) 572-3860

P.S. In case there’s a plumbing emergency, leave our Emergency Hotline Number by your phone: (817) 572-3860. This number is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
