Nitrogen is a natural occurring element with the symbol N and atomic number 7. It is crucial for growth and reproduction for plants and animals. It has no color or odor, and it is an unreactive gas that creates about 80% of the earth’s atmosphere.

What is nitrogen?

Nitrogen is used in many different ways, not just inside of biology. It can act as a substitute for air and create a stable atmosphere in places like chemical processing plants and electronic manufacturing factories. It can also be used in fertilizer and explosives. It stops food, computer parts, and tires from oxidizing. We can also use it in liquid form, for things such as preserving cells or chilling equipment such as equipment for computers or x-rays.

Although nitrogen cannot be used in its pure form, it is still combined with other elements which makes it useful and is able to be used successfully in organisms. Nitrogen is a vital part of life. It plays a very important role for growth, and it is found in amino acids which make up proteins that all living things need in order to grow. Without nitrogen, there would be no amino acids. This means that there would be no DNA, and without DNA, there would be no you or I, animals, plants or any living thing.
