A Closer look on MTP Signalling Point (SP)
A node in Signalling Network, which can send/receive signalling msg
A Signalling Point can have two roles within one signalling network:
- either it is a Signalling End Point (SEP)
- or it is as Signalling Transfer Point (STP)
Note: STP includes the functionality of SEP
Signalling Point Code (SPC) A unique number in a signalling network used for identification of SP can be OPC and DPC (Origin Point Code & Destination Point Code)

State of Signalling LinkMain state -substate
1 -substate 2
Name of the state Meaning and the change made
AV-EX available-executing Link is working normally.
UA-AD unavailable-activation denied Operator has taken the link out of use and has denied the activation. See the text.
UA-TST unavailable-testing User has started a data link test and only test traffic can be transferred by the link, while no
signalling traffic is allowed. See the text.
UA-INU unavailable-deactivated by user Operator has taken the link out of use. To activate the link use command NLC.
UA-INS unavailable-deactivated by system System has taken the link out of use. Link has not completed the initial alignment or the
signalling link test procedure successfully. See the text.
UA-BLU unavailable-blocked by user User has blocked the signalling link.
UA-BLR unavailable-blocked by remoteexchange Remote end exchange has blocked the signalling link, or there is a processor outagecondition at the remote end.
UA-BLB unavailable-blocked by user and
remote exchange
The signalling link has been blocked at both ends.
UA-IBL unavailable-inhibited local User has inhibited the link.
UA-IBR unavailable-inhibited remote Remote end has inhibited the link.
UA-IBB unavailable-inhibited local and remote The signalling link is inhibited at both ends.
UA-INU-IBL unavailable-deactivated by user-
inhibited local
User has deactivated and inhibited the signalling link.
UA-INU-IBR unavailable-deactivated by user-
inhibited remote
User has deactivated and the remote end has inhibited the signalling link.
UA-INU-IBB unavailable-deactivated by user-
inhibited local and remote
User has deactivated and inhibited and the remote end has inhibited the signalling link.
UA-INS-IBL unavailable-deactivated by system-
inhibited local
System has deactivated and user has inhibited the signalling link.
UA-INS-IBR unavailable-deactivated by system-
inhibited remote
System has deactivated and remote end has inhibited the signalling link.
UA-INS-IBB unavailable-deactivated by system-
inhibited local and remote

The Signalling Link Set
NE1 NE2
= Signalling Link (TSL dedicated to signalling)
SLS from NE2 to NE1
(defined in NE2)
SLS from NE1 to NE2
(defined in NE1)
Signalling Link is included
in neither SLS it is not
used in the same signalling
network or not at all
Definition: all SLs directly connected 2 signalling points within one signalling network
One signalling point can have many SLS as it has connections to other NEs.

Signalling Route and Route Set
OP
SRS containing all possible
routes (identified by the neighbours)
to reach DP from OP (as defined in OP)
SLS from OP to DP
(as defined in OP)
SLS from OP to STP
(as defined in OP)
DP
STP
Signalling Route (SR): a pre-determined path, consisting of asuccession of signalling points (or signalling transfer points) andinterconnection signalling linksSystem does not store the whole path, but just the neighboring SP
Signalling Route Set (SRS): All possible paths (SR) that can reach DP

Signalling Route Set Definitions
SR can be activated and available when SLS towards SPindicated by that SR is available
To handle redundant route, we can use primary andspare routes orload sharing. But load sharing may causeloops in complex network
Main Signalling Link States: AV (available) & UA(unavailable)

Signalling Network
Can be divided into National & International, i.e. NA0, NA1, IN0, IN1
This structure makes a clear division of responsibility for signallingnetwork management and allows numbering plans of signallingpoints.
NA0:
NA1:
IN0:
IN1:
includes all SPs of all telecommunication networks using C7 in a country
another national signalling network
Bridge network can be used as a world wide network
Another international signalling network, no real application at the moment
