A Closer look on MTP Signalling Point (SP)

A node in Signalling Network, which can send/receive signalling msg

A Signalling Point can have two roles within one signalling network:

    - either it is a Signalling End Point (SEP)

    - or it is as Signalling Transfer Point (STP)

Note: STP includes the functionality of SEP

Signalling Point Code (SPC) A unique number in a signalling network used for identification of SP can be OPC and DPC (Origin Point Code & Destination Point Code)

    The Signalling Link Set

    NE1 NE2

= Signalling Link (TSL dedicated to signalling)

    SLS from NE2 to NE1

    (defined in NE2)

    SLS from NE1 to NE2

    (defined in NE1)

    Signalling Link is included

in neither SLS it is not

    used in the same signalling

    network or not at all

Definition: all SLs directly connected 2 signalling points within one signalling network

One signalling point can have many SLS as it has connections to other NEs.

    Signalling Route and Route Set

    OP

    SRS containing all possible

    routes (identified by the neighbours)

to reach DP from OP (as defined in OP)

    SLS from OP to DP

    (as defined in OP)

    SLS from OP to STP

    (as defined in OP)

    DP

    STP

Signalling Route (SR): a pre-determined path, consisting of asuccession of signalling points (or signalling transfer points) andinterconnection signalling linksSystem does not store the whole path, but just the neighboring SP

Signalling Route Set (SRS): All possible paths (SR) that can reach DP

    Signalling Route Set Definitions

SR can be activated and available when SLS towards SPindicated by that SR is available

To handle redundant route, we can use primary andspare routes orload sharing. But load sharing may causeloops in complex network

    Signalling Network

    Can be divided into National & International, i.e. NA0, NA1, IN0, IN1

This structure makes a clear division of responsibility for signallingnetwork management and allows numbering plans of signallingpoints.

    NA0:

    NA1:

    IN0:

    IN1:

includes all SPs of all telecommunication networks using C7 in a country

    another national signalling network

Bridge network can be used as a world wide network

Another international signalling network, no real application at the moment
