Exalted Ruler’s Message

Summer is over... you can't tell by the temperature, but the kids are

back in school and football season is here. Activities at our Lodge are

beginning to heat up. Last week our Lodge, along with other veteran

service organizations, participated in the homeless veterans' stand

down. Our Lodge provided food while other organizations aided

homeless veterans in discovering benefits they were entitled to. Job

counseling, haircuts and showers were also provided.

Also last week, our Lodge was visited by members of five different

Elk Lodges to enjoy our Friday hospitality. Needless to say they had

an "Elk" of a good time and extended their compliments.

Saturday, Sept 12, will be our District VP Paul Orvosh's official visit

to our Lodge. The cost will be $12.00 for a stuffed pork loin dinner

which begins at 7:00 p.m. The cocktail hour will begin at 6:00 p.m.

Entertainment by the band Dakota . Come on out and let's give VP

Paul a warm St Augustine welcome. (By the way... his speech is

short)

The inside lounge will reopen for the weekends beginning Saturday,

Sept 12th. Come inside, enjoy the A/C, cool off with a refreshing

beverage and watch a little football.

Breakfast, or maybe even a brunch, is planned to return in October.

Give us your input on what you would like to see!

Have you purchased your New Years' tickets yet? It will be here

sooner that we think. The cost will be $50.00 per person and will in-

clude a filet dinner, all-inclusive bar and dancing to the music of the

Red River Band!

ER Jimmy

Elk of the Month

Our Elk of the month is Josie Bowman. I have seen her help with a

veterans' luncheon at noon and come back later that evening to help

with spaghetti. That makes for a very long day! Thank you Josie!

Eland Message

Eland Bullen – September 2015

To my fellow Eland Members, and spouses of Elks:

I hope everyone has had a nice summer. This coming month is the

annual Florida Ladies of Elks (FLOE) conference, being held Sept 24-

26 in Melbourne, Fl. It is open to all Elk spouses; membership in the

Eland Club is not required. I’m looking forward to meeng women

from other Elk lodges and hearing about the different fund raising

acvies that their members enjoy. If you are interested in a5end-

ing, you can find more informaon along with the registraon forms

online at:

h5p://www.floridaelks.org/floe

With another successful Luau behind us, our members connue to

sell cake at the Monday night dinners. Be sure to stop by for a tasty

desert and speak with one of our members about our Eland acvies.

Throughout the fall, we will start planning for our big Garage Sale in

January and the PER Recognion Dinner in February. Don’t throw

out those things you are red of, or don’t wear anymore – put aside

a box marked “Eland Garage Sale” and help us to fill our shed with

sale items. The more we have to sell, the more we can make for our

charies. If you would like to help as well as make new friends, con-

sider becoming a member of Eland. Our next regular Eland meeng

will be on Wednesday, September 2 at 7:30 in the back hall. Come

join us as we work to fulfill our mission “Hearts and Hands Helping

Children”.

Thank you.

Joan Geronimo, President

Eland Club of BPOE 829

Annual Homeless Veterans Stand Down

St. Augustine Elks Lodge #829, working with the St,. Johns County

Veterans Council, hosted the 9th Annual Homeless Veterans Stand

Down on August 22, 2015. Over forty volunteers from every local vet-

erans organization in the County let the 29 veterans and over 100 other

homeless people know that they are not forgotten. Funded by an Elks

foundation grant and donations from local merchants, the homeless

were given showers, hair cuts, toiletry items and clothing. Medical

personnel from the US Department of Veterans Affairs, the local

Wildflower Dental Clinic and job source were on hand to address any

needed care. The Veterans were also given surplus military equipment

and entered into a drawing for a half dozen new bicycles. Past Exalted

Ruler George April and Lodge volunteers fed everyone hamburgers

and hot dogs prior to their leaving.

***Florida Elks Youth Camp***

FEYC BUS TRIP

The Bus trip is changed until February 6th, 2016 in conjunction with the

Quarterly Meeting. We could not come up with a date that was accepta-ble for the Fall.

Thanks to all Brothers and Sisters for your donations to the Florida Elks

Youth Camp with your renewal membership. It is never to late to do-

nate money for the camp. Please continue with your donations of

games, sports items and other things that are appropriate, for the 9-13 year old children who attend our Florida Elks Youth Camp. They have

requested that we not send clothing, as they wish to purchase new

clothing items for the less fortunate campers. We continue to need do-

nations, particularly SPORTS equipment that can be used at the camp.

Keep them coming!!

If you have any questions about the camp, trip or donations, please feel

free to call me at any time: Irv Stockdale

Cell: 904 315 3773, Home 904 471 7812.

Email: [email protected].

Your Continued Support and Donations

make this possible.

Thank YOU!
