Untreated SewageNOTICE IS HEREBY GIV-EN THAT on Monday, Jan-uary 25, 2010, two sanitary sewer overflows occurred within the Union County Wastewater System. The spills were not of magni-tude to cause immediate danger to human health or the environment. All pumps and equipment were oper-ating properly and at full capacity on January 25th. The sewer overflows were the direct result of heavy rain causing stormwater to enter the sanitary sewer system through defects in pipes and manholes. Asanitary sewer overflow of approximately 19,470 gal-lons occurred off McIntyre Road near Monroe Anson-ville Rd. with a portion of the overflow entering Meadows Branch. The spill was first discovered at ap-proximately 2:30 a.m. and lasted until 8:00 a.m. Asecond sanitary sewer overflow of approximately 20,460 gallons occurred off Sardis Church Road near Cannon Drive, which en-tered Crooked Creek. The spill was first discovered at approximately 4:30 a.m. and lasted until approxi-mately 3:30 p.m. Union County has an ongoing program to identify and re-duce stormwater entry into the sanitary sewer system.
