    SECTION 01500

    TEMPORARY FACILITIES

    1. PART 1 - GENERAL

    1.01 SECTION INCLUDES

    A. Contractor shall provide, erect, install,maintain, alter as necessary, and remove oncompletion or when directed by theEngineer, temporary facilities and asdescribed in Project Documents and/orspecified in this section.

    B. Contractor shall provide and maintain thetemporary accommodation and facilitiesfor the Owner and the Engineer siteoffices requirements indicated in thissection as per categories respected tothe project site area, any project sitecategory shall be determined asfollowing:

    1. Category C0 for project site arealess than 5000m 2 .

    2. Category C1 for project site areaequal and more than 5000m 2 andless than 20000m 2 .

    3. Category C2 for project site areamore than 20000m 2 .

    1.02 TEMPORARY ROADS

    A. Contractor shall prepare and maintain suchtemporary roads as may be necessary fromthe site to the nearest road and alsowithin plot. Roads shall be positionedstrictly in accordance with the Engineerinstructions and the Contractor shallreduce or control any dust nuisance byspraying with water.

    B. Contractor shall satisfy himself as to thelocation and nature of the proposed accessroutes to site and shall be responsible forpreventing any damage whatsoever toadjacent property and vegetation and

    within the building, but necessaryfor the use of the Contractor andhis subcontractors, shall beinstalled, protected andmaintained at the expense of theContractor.

    4. At completion of the work or atsuch time as the Contractor makesuse of the permanent water supplyinstallation, the temporary waterservice equipment and piping shallbe removed by Contractor at hisown expense.

    C. Temporary Electricity

    1. Contractor shall make allnecessary arrangements for atemporary electrical service, payall expenses in connection withthe installation, operation andremoval thereof, and pay the costsof electricity consumed by alltrades.

    2. In event that site cannot beconnected to a local electricitynetwork or where the availablepower is insufficient, Contractorshall make his own temporaryprovision and maintain suchtemporary installation until

    permanent supply is available andpay for expenses related inconnection with such process.

    3. A temporary lighting system shallbe furnished, installed andmaintained by the Contractor asrequired to satisfy the minimumrequirements for safety andsecurity. Temporary lightingsystem shall afford adequategeneral illumination to allbuilding areas. Adequate outdoorlighting shall be provided toilluminate staging, trenches andthe like to the satisfaction ofthe Engineer, and generalillumination throughout adequatefor watchmen and emergencypersonnel.

    4. Temporary equipment and wiring forpower and lighting shall be inaccordance with the applicableprovisions of governing codes.Temporary wiring shall be

    maintained in a safe manner andutilized so as not to constitute ahazard to persons or property.

    5. When the permanent electricalpower/lighting systems are in anoperating condition, they may beused for temporary power andlighting for constructionpurposes, provided that Contractorobtains written approval of theEngineer and shall assume fullresponsibility for the entirepower and lighting systems, andpays for operation and maintenanceof the systems.

    6. At completion of constructionwork, or at such time as theContractor makes use of permanentelectrical equipment and devices,temporary electricity servicesshall be removed by the Contractorat his own expense.

    D. Waste Disposal

    1. Contractor shall make suchtemporary provisions as may berequired in order to dispose ofany chemicals, fuels, oils,greases, bituminous materials,waste and soil waste and the likewithout causing pollution toeither the site or theenvironment.

    2. Disposal of any materials, wastes,effluent, garbage, oil, grease,chemicals and the like shall be inareas specified by the concernedlocal authority or municipalityproposed by Contractor and subjectto approval of the Engineer.

    3. If any waste material is dumped inunauthorized areas, Contractor

    shall remove material and restoreareas to condition of adjacentundisturbed area. If necessary,contaminated ground shall beexcavated, disposed of as directedby the Engineer, and replaced with

    suitable fill material, compacted,and finished with topsoil at theexpense of the Contractor.

    E. Fire Protection

    1. Contractor shall provide andmaintain adequate fire protectionin the form of barrels of waterwith buckets, fire bucket tanks,fire extinguishers, or othereffective means of extinguishingfire, ready for instant use,distributed around the project andin and about temporary inflammablestructures during construction ofthe works.

    Gasoline and other flammableliquids shall be stored in anddispensed from safety containersapproved by the Engineer andstorage shall not be withinbuildings. Torch-cutting andwelding operations performed byContractor shall have the approvalof the Engineer before such work

    is started and a chemicalextinguisher is to be available atlocation where such work is inprogress. Contractor shall followinstructions and specifications ofthe Civil Defense Department.

    F. Telephone and Fax

    1. Contractor shall immediately afterreceiving the Letter of SiteAcceptance, install telephoneexchange at site office and oneextension for each personnel ofthe Owner or the Engineer andshall provide required telephoneand fax lines for OwnerRepresentative and the Engineer'soffices. The Contractor shallprovide handsets for all telephone

    extensions, including executivesets for Owner Representativeoffice. Provide fax linesincluding fax machine for OwnerRepresentative and the Engineersite offices.

    2. Contractor shall be responsiblefor payment of all installationcharges and periodic accounts(invoices) for all telephone andfax lines during constructionperiod and up to substantialhandover.

    3. In case of non-availability oftelephone lines through PTT, theContractor shall buy direct linesfor Owner Representative and theEngineer or provide mobile lines.

    4. Contractor shall provide andinstall the required numbers andquantities of telephone and faxlines, handsets, fax machines, andsystem equipments indicated in thefollowing table:

    1.04 TEMPORARY ACCOMMODATION AND FACILITIES

    A. General

    1. The location, construction,operation, maintenance and removalof the site offices, storagefacilities and of any other

    temporary buildings of all personsor parties within the perimeter ofthe site, operating or associatedas subcontractors to theContractor shall be subject to theapproval of the Engineer. TheContractor shall submit to theEngineer, prior to commencement ofany temporary installations, plansshowing the proposed position ofsite offices, storage, and anyother buildings of a temporarynature.

    2. All habitable rooms shall beproperly insulated, shall havedust-sealed windows with sunprotection and insect screens,and shall be equipped withelectric lights, air conditioningand/or mechanical ventilation,and the supporting facilitiesshall provide the necessary hotand cold water, sewer andelectrical facilities, and allmaintenance, all to thesatisfaction of the Engineer.

    B. The Engineering Site Office

    1. The Contractor shall provide andmaintain for the entire durationof the project such administrativeand supporting facilities as

    required for the sole use of theEngineer and his staff. Thebuilding/s may be pre-fabricatedor conventionally constructed andall rooms shall be sufficientlydimensioned to include the

    essential furnishings. Thetemporary offices shall beavailable for use not later thanone (1) month after the date ofthe site handing over.

    2. The Engineering site office shallconsist of at least the requiredrooms spaces, functions, andfacilities which shall beprovided as indicated in thefollowing tables B & C:

    All rooms shall have a minimumheight of 2.45 m. Constructionshall be as approved by theEngineer prior to erection. TheContractor shall provide water,electricity, AC, telephone, anddrainage system and all such

    supplies shall be continuouslyfurnished throughout theconstruction period. Contractorshall be responsible to provideadequate and sufficient servicesfor the Engineer and his staffincluding the messenger/office boyacceptable to the Engineer in fulltime basis and shall keep thebuilding in clean conditions.Contractor shall supply to thesatisfaction of the Engineer thenecessary office equipment andfurniture, i.e. telephone exchange,telephone sets, fax machine,electrical typewriter English andArabic, desk calculators, advancedphotocopy machine, chairs, desks,tables, filing cabinets, coathooks, etc.

    3. Communication Facilities: TheContractor shall provide each roomwith a telephone connection box.The telephone system shall beprovided with a medium size privatetelephone system, extension lines

    and facilities for internal linksincluding night answering with anoperating.

    The whole installation shall bemaintained in good order and thecontractor is responsible for

    providing the necessary lines,extension lines and facilities forinternal links as mentioned inTable A (Telephone and faxrequirements).

    4. The Contractor is responsible ofemploying the personnel(English/Arabic speaking) tooperate the system at full timebasis and shall be responsible ofpaying all the costs for runningand maintaining the system duringthe project period.

    5. Kitchen Equipment's: TheContractor shall provide thekitchen equipment as per the listindicated in following table D:

    C. Contractor's Facilities

    1. The Contractor shall, for his ownuse, furnish and maintain suitableoffices, stores and auxiliaryfacilities on the site. TheContractor shall include forgeneral use the following:

    a. Sanitary Facilities:Toilets shall be providedand maintained on site oras directed by theEngineer. Toilets shall

    be individuallypartitioned and theenclosures provided withlockable doors.

    b. First Aid Facilities: TheContractor shall provideadequate first aidfacilities for the jointuse of his staff and theEngineer and hispersonnel. They shall bemade available at no extracost.

    c. Vehicle Parking: TheContractor shall provide asuitable sized car parkshade structure for theEngineer cars and spaces

    d. Sample Room: TheContractor shall provideas directed by theEngineer and near theEngineering office asample room withappropriate shelving forthe storage of completeset of approved samples ofthe project. Thecontractor shall make thenecessary modifications tothe room as directed bythe Engineer.

    The Contractor shallprovided all skilled laborrequired for theinstallation, operationand maintenance of alllaboratory equipment. Theequipment shall be

    periodically calibrated asdirected by the Engineer.The laboratory shall atall times be available foruse by the Engineer.

    D. Labor Camps

    1. A labor camp is not permitted onthe site of the Works.

    2. Any labor camp or accommodationshall be provided for laborers off

    site and is expected to be fullyin accordance with the laws of theKingdom; and the Contractor shallbe fully accountable andresponsible for ensuring all laborlaws are complied with, andsecurity and the conduct of suchmen are lawful.

    1.05 TEMPORARY HOISTS AND CHUTES

    A. Contractor shall provide, install, maintainand remove material and personnel hoists asrequired for normal use by all trades, andemploy only skilled operators for them. Heshall provide necessary guards, signals,protective facilities, safety devices andthe like required for safe operation,provide suitable runways from hoists toeach floor level and roof, and remove allsuch facilities after they have servedtheir purpose or when directed by theEngineer.

    B. Contractor shall also provide and maintainall temporary ladders, ramps, runways,chutes, derricks, stairs, and similar items

    required for the proper execution of thework and permit the use of such facilitiesby other contractors, subcontractors ortrades. Hoists and chutes shall be soconstructed as to prevent damage, stainingor marring of permanent work.

    C. No materials, rubbish or debris shall bepermitted to drop free, but shall beremoved by use of material hoist and/orfully enclosed rubbish chute.

    D. Where required, openings in slabs, wallsand partitions shall be provided forinstalling large pieces of equipment.Openings shall be closed and/or made goodafter the equipment is in place.Structural modification, if required, shallbe subject to prior approval by theEngineer.

    1.06 STAGING AND SCAFFOLDING

    A. Contractor shall provide, erect andmaintain all staging and scaffolding(exterior and interior) for all trades for

    their use during the construction of thebuilding. Staging and scaffolding shall beof approved design, erected and removed byexperienced stage builders and shall haveall accident prevention devices required bygovernment laws.

    B. Such staging and scaffolding shall beerected in sufficient time and in a propersequence so as not to delay the works.Subcontractors shall schedule and commencetheir work so that building progress is notdelayed or obstructed once staging andscaffolding becomes available.

    C. The above facilities shall be constructedand maintained in accordance with theapplicable requirements of GovernmentAuthorities and designed to comply with therecommendations of the British Standards CP97, Parts 1, 2 and 3, as applicable, and beremoved after they have served theirpurpose or when directed by the OwnerRepresentative.

    1.07 TEMPORARY COVERINGS

    A. Contractor shall protect finished surfaces,including jambs and soffits of openingsused as passageways or through whichmaterials are handled, against possibledamage resulting from the conduct of workby trades.

    B. Adequate protective material shall be laidunder all materials stored on finishedsurfaces, and shall be laid before movingmaterials over finished areas. Wheelbarrowsused over such areas shall have rubber typewheels.

    C. Finished surfaces, including factory-finished and job-finished items shall beclean and not marked upon handing over ofbuilding(s) to Owner. Contractor shall,without extra compensation, re-finish suchspaces where surfaces were proved to have

    been inadequately protected, and which aredamaged.

    D. As soon as an area of flooring is finished,it shall be protected by the Contractorfrom dirt and damage by covering as

    necessary with paper or by other approvedmethod.

    E. Waterproofed and roof surfaces shall not besubjected to traffic, nor be used forstorage of material. Where some activitymust take place in order to carry out thework, adequate protection, subject toapproval by the Engineer shall be provided.

    1.08 TEMPORARY SAFETY MEASURES

    A. Contractor shall provide and maintainduring the entire contract period alltemporary safety measures necessary for theprotection of people, buildings,structures, paving, lighting, channels,fences and the like on the site or adjacentproperties, and he shall be solelyresponsible for any damage to life andproperty caused as a result of not havingtaken adequate precautions against suchdamage.

    1.09 TEMPORARY SIGNBOARD

    A. Provide, erect and maintain on suitable

    supports and as directed by the Engineerone signboard of minimum size 3 x 3 mgiving the names of the Project, theOwner, the Designer, the Engineer, theContractor and other required information.

    2.01 MATERIALS

    A. General: Materials shall be new, andapproved by the Engineer, and must notviolate requirements of applicable codes

    and standards.

    3. PART 3 - EXECUTION

    3.01 GENERAL

    A. Maintain systems to assure continuousservice.

    B. Modify and extend systems as work progressrequires.

    3.02 REMOVAL

    A. Completely remove temporary materials andequipment when their use is no longerrequired.

    B. Clean and repair damage caused by temporaryinstallations or use of temporaryfacilities.

    C. Restore permanent facilities used fortemporary services to specified conditions.
