An Introduction to the Course…
Why Take this Course?
• Homeowners will obtain the ability to design their own landscape or how to work with a designer/contractor.
• Designers will refine skills required to draw a base map and organize functional landscape areas
• Contractors will be exposed to new landscape construction techniques and gain a connoisseurship of ideas and execution.
• Garden center staff will provide better service and gain a clear understanding of their clients’ needs.

introductory seminar.
The skill package obtained in the whole course enables the certificate holder to :
• Master a large vocabulary of materials • Design a home landscape using structured areas and
plant materials• Encourage sustainability practices• Learn basic survey and mapping skills• Understand the principles of design• Become familiar with various types of construction• Make friends with new plant materials
Taught by Instructor:
Mary Palmer Dargan, ASLA, CLARB who holds a Master of Landscape Architecture degree and lectures at Clemson University in the Department of Landscape Architecture.
She appears regularly on Ground Breakers on HGTV and her work is published frequently in national magazines.
With her husband, Hugh Dargan, principle of Dargan Landscape Architects of Atlanta, she has projects in many states.
A design firm for over 30 years, Dargan LA’s archives are housed in The South Carolina Historical Society in Charleston, SC.
