The key to the Selene chair was the sectionof the leg. I think I delt with the problemusing a particular technology in the mostproper way possible, but without allowingmyself to be conditioned by it, or eveninspired by the idea of modernity for itsown sake.

We are honored to introduce yet anothermasterpiece: Vico Magistrettis last chair, theNew Gaudi.

Over the years we had many conversationswith Vico. He was a friend and an inspiration.He worked on some wonderful furniture forus. For years he had wanted to modify theoriginal Gaudi Chair designed in 1970 and

produced for three years in order to takeadvantage of new materials and advancedtechnologies which could make the chairlighter, stronger, and stackable.

The New Gaudi is the fulllment of hisdream and a superb example of the way heimparted beauty and dignity to a modernmaterial. Produced with advanced injectionmoulding, the new design is slim, rened,and comfortable. The New Gaudi is perfectfor use indoors and out.

As one of the great designers of post-war

Italy. Magistretti gave modernism a humanface. His legacy includes a dazzling array ofarchitecture, furniture and everyday objects.He sought to create a new kind of designwhich was simple, functional, rational,elegant and anonymous. He wantedto produce objects which seemed not tohave been designed but to have evolvedorganically.

Vico was always seeing something differentand thinking about new projects, saysPaolo Imperatori, who worked closely with

him for four years. The New Gaudi was arediscovery for him. I remember the joy in hiseyes as we were delivering the rst model which, as usual, had to be lifted through thewindow of our ofce. A masterpiece of Italiandesign was coming back to life, in a newform but as if it had always existed.
