Dear Madam:-

the 27th ult.

I beg to acknowledge receipt of yours of

I regret to note that you had a hard strug-

gle to get your name confirmed for a second appointment and

-that your opponents are still making attacks ~on you. I

believe that it 1s a good thing to have to fight for a thing

occasionally, it is in that way only that we can be tUlly

tested. I agree with Thomas Paine When he said, "What we

obtain too cheaply.we esteem too lightly." I presume

you feel as Tom did When he wrote h1s"Crises"that -these

are the times that try men's souls." You. of course, would

substitute a woman's soul. I am glad that you came out

victorious and also glad to note that you will attend our

next Convention. I do not think because you had a fight

to hold your position that you should for that reason not

take as prominent a part in the work of the Conmittee as if you

had secured the appointment without any opposition.

Very truly yours,

My dear 6S Robertson:

I am inclosing hero\7ith the ne~6

paper account of the services lleld in }~ion to commemoratethe first anniversary of the death of our beloved friend andex-President, ~arren G. Harding. The services held by thehome-folks ~ere very simple and reverent but at the same timemost impressive •

•The pictures inclosed vere taken at

the cemetery immediately before the services. The baskot holdby my little dau3hter Eleanor, ')las filled \"/ith dahlias \"/hichuere cro,m on the post office latms and placed at the tomb in

our behalf. The dahlia bulbs vere transplanted from the boyhood home of the late president near Bloominggrove, Ohio. That fact adds a unique significance to the floral tribute.

The many messages of condolence fromevery corner Of the nation and the great number of floral offerings received have pr?ven a striking evidence of the hi5h esteoM in \'/hich Hr. Harding vIas held and the sacredness in \'/hichlis memorv is revered.
