    Our growing chapter!

  • Philanthropy Update

This year has been a pretty active year for Kappa Psi Philanthropy. Together we’ve completed various types of activities and service projects, and there are still more events planned for the remainder of the spring se-mester! To recap, at the end of the fall semester we worked with Dr. Bruce, the chapter coordinator of Project Linus for the greater Cleveland area, to tie over 20 blankets that were donated to hospitals like Rainbow Babies and MetroHealth. As a part of the Project Linus mission, the blan-kets we made were given to children to “provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or other-wise in need...” Our newest Brothers were also involved in this event by creating thoughtful holiday cards that were pinned to these blankets for the children, so they knew that Kappa Psi was thinking about them. We were also featured in a special on Cleveland 19 through photographs that were taken while making these blankets with Dr. Bruce on December 19

    th.

In February, we went to the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, where 12 of our Brothers, and numerous other volunteers, helped package over 30,000 pounds of meat that will be used for over 25,000 meals! We volun-teered in the Foodbank warehouse where the donated food is inspected and sorted. The Foodbank states that it feeds approximately 263,200 peo-ple through the member programs every year! We helped with this through the few hours we put in that Saturday, so congratulations to those who were able to help out!

As far as what is planned for the rest of the semester, there are a couple events scheduled and others that are just in the works. On March 20

th we will be making birthday cards and thinking of you cards for the res-

idents of Hattie Larlham. Through this we help let the residents know that someone is thinking of them and does care about them. We also have a table reserved for us at the Health Fair on Saturday March 25

    th, where we

will educate the community on the current opioid epidemic going on in Ohio, which is #1 in the nation for opioid and heroin overdose deaths. In April, we will be organizing our first ever Lip-Sync Competition! We are hoping that this will become an annual event, and all of the funds raised at this event will be donated to Project DAWN, which is a community based drug overdose prevention and education project. Their goal is to “educate participants on the signs and symptoms of overdose, how to perform res-cue breathing, how to administer intranasal naloxone, etc.” Lastly, we are still working on different clothing and ‘swag’ designs that can be sold to us and other chapters in hopes of raising money for the chapter and for dona-tion to another organization, which has yet to be chosen.

I just want to say thank you to everyone who participated in these events! It is because of all of your hard work and participa-tion that we are able to give back in the way that we do.

    PTBYB,

    Kathy Idriss Philanthropy Chair

  • A Note from Your GCD

Brothers, we had a great time serving others at the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank recently. 12 Brothers helped pack over 30,000 pounds of meat into boxes that were then distributed to folks in our area. What a great feeling to have accomplished this in a relatively short period of time (2.5 hours)! Thanks to Kevin for organizing this event, and we should plan to do this much more of-ten. Since my last update we’ve initiated 15 new Brothers into our chapter - - welcome all, it’s great to have you as part of our wonderful fraternity, and we look forward to your contributions and leadership. In conclusion, we’re getting fairly close to graduating another class here at NEOMED, and with that we’ll have a transition from Active to Alumni for 10 Brothers from our Alpha/Beta class…hopefully they’ll finish the year strong (no slacking off these last 2 months of APPEs!) and will walk proudly across the stage May 20

    th – which will

    be their 3rd

best day at NEOMED (#1- the day they found out they were admit-ted to NEOMED; #2 - initiation into KY!). Have a great Spring.

  • Lily Truong

I’m 27 years old and I am from Sarasota, FL. I have a secret obsession with avocado toast. (I guess it’s not so secret anymore.) And I live by the motto “Always try everything at least once…”.

    1. What would you be doing if you didn’t go to pharmacy school?

If I wasn’t going to pharmacy school, I would probably be a chef turned food journalist that travels to all the ends of the world, eating all types of strange and exotic foods like Andrew Zimmern, or Antho-ny Bourdain. It would combine all my loves in life for traveling, eating, and living for the next adventure.

    2. If you could have one superpower what would it be and why?

If I were asked this question 5 years ago, I would have answered that the ultimate super power would be telepathy, like Professor Xavier from X-Men. But now that I’m in pharmacy school at NEOMED, a photographic memory would probably be most useful.

    3. Why did you join Kappa Psi?

I joined Kappa Psi because I wanted to try something new and meet awesome people in the process. I’m glad that I did because now I have a huge family of Brothers, not just here at NEOMED, but all over the country.

    4. What is your favorite band/musical group?

I don’t really have a favorite band. I love all types of music. But if I had to choose between N*Sync and Backstreet Boys, it would be N*Sync.
