Our Easter celebrations are over. But Easter continues. In fact, Easter continues until Pentecost which is in June. After the joy and the celebration of Easter Sunday, it is important that we consider what the rest of this Easter season means to us. If you recall, after Jesus was crucified he appeared to his disciples and the first thing he said was “Peace be with you.” Finding an Easter peace is a good place to begin our fifty-day observance of Easter. Many things occur in our lives that challenge our serenity and our peace. We are often thrown into periods of doubt and fear. We are challenged by everyday stresses such as our jobs and our families. More serious challenges can also fill us with fear and doubt such as health issues and the health or death of friends and loved ones. When we face such times we sometimes forget that we can turn to the one source of strength that we can always count on, Jesus Christ. After Jesus had been crucified his disciples were scattered. They had lost their teacher. He was to have been the messiah, the one who led them out from under the iron hand of the Romans. They had been with Jesus for three years, travelling with him, listening to him teach and preach. They had shared their lives with him in a way that none of them could ever had imagined and now he was dead. What were they to do now. They had scattered in fear of the Romans and in fear of the Jewish leaders. They were afraid. And they were grieving. They were heartbroken and confused. They had come together finally behind the locked doors of the upper room and Jesus appeared before them. Understandably, there was a rush of emotion.

Luke tells us that they were terrified. Can we understand that? They were grieving and they were confused. They were uncertain of their future. When Jesus—the Risen Christ—spoke to them. Notice what he said, “Peace be with you, why are you frightened, and why do doubts arise in your hearts?” He was there and he was alive! In their day of darkness and hopelessness, Christ is there. That is the Good News of the Gospel.

The disciples were not that much different from us. They grieved and they worried. They felt the pain of loss and they struggled with the transitions that life brings. After what had happened in Jerusalem, they could not fathom what good the future could hold for them. Can you relate to that? Most of us can. We cannot always control what happens to us. We cannot count on much to prevent difficult things from occurring. But we can count on the ever-present companionship of Christ. It is my prayer that we can all find an Easter peace. He is risen, and He is alive!

Blessings,

Charles

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you to all who helped make Trinity’s steak supper a big success. It could not have been possible without each one of you. I love seeing our Trinity Team come together like all of you did on April 13th, working together, smiling together, laughing together and just enjoying the time together. My heart was full of happiness seeing all of us work together as we did that day. It takes all of us to be successful and I truly believe that is what we did at Trinity! Thank you again for all you did, may God bless each one of you! Love,
