Sharing God’s Love with All!

Tenth Sunday after PentecostJuly 24, 2016, 9:30 am

Welcome

Gathering Hymn.…..Open Now Thy Gates of Beauty…..#533

Open now thy gates of beauty, Zion, let me enter there, where my soul in joyful duty waits for God who answers prayer. Oh, how blessed is this place, filled with solace, light and grace!

Gracious God, I come before thee; come thou also unto me; where we find thee and adore thee, there a heav’n on earth must be. To my heart, oh, enter thou, let it be thy temple now!

Here thy praise is gladly chanted, here thy seed is duly sown, let my soul, where it is planted, bring forth precious sheaves alone, so that all I hear may be fruitful unto life in me.

Thou my faith increase and quicken, let me keep thy gift divine; how so e’er temptations thicken, may thy word still o’er me shine as my guiding star through life, as my comfort in all strife.

Speak, o God, and I will hear thee, let thy will be done indeed; may I undisturbed draw near thee while thou dost thy people feed. Here of life the fountain flows; here is balm for all our woes.

Greeting P: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. C: And also with you.

Confession     P: Holy, awesome Friend, some of us have come here feeling hassled and corrupted by the pressures and temptations of life. We need help. C: Please forgive and restore us. P: Holy Friend, some of us have come here feeling not so much sinful as frustrated by our clumsiness and stupidity. We need help. C: Please quiet and reclaim us.

P: Holy Friend, some of us have come here feeling neither sinful nor stupid, but rather care-less or even cynical about ourselves and others. We need help. C: Please confront and redeem us P: Holy God, we thank you that our judge is our Savior and our Savior, our judge. You best know what needs rooting out or disinfecting, pruning or nourishing, weeding or nurturing.  By the grace of Christ Jesus, may we be saved from all that is ruinous and re-established in all that is healthy and strong. For your love’s sake. C: Amen!

Absolution  P: Holy Scripture declares: “God did not send his Son into the world to condemn it, but that the world

through him might be saved.” So ask right now, and it shall be given to you. Seek right now, and you will find. Knock right now, and the door will be opened. In the name of the Son I declare to each repentant soul: Your sins are forgiven! C: Thanks be to God!

Prayer of the Day C: Almighty and ever-living God, you are always more ready to hear than we are to pray, and you gladly give more than we either desire or deserve. Pour upon us your abundant mercy. Psalm……………….…..…….…………….………..……...Psalm 138

1I will give thanks to you, O LORD, with | my whole heart;before the gods I will | sing your praise.2I will bow down toward your holy temple and praise your name, because of your steadfast | love and faithfulness; for you have glorified your name and your word a- | bove all things. 3When I called, you | answered me; you increased my | strength within me.4All the rulers of the earth will praise | you, O LORD, when they have heard the words | of your mouth. 5They will sing of the ways | of the LORD,that great is the glory | of the LORD.6The LORD is high, yet cares | for the lowly, perceiving the haughty | from afar. 7Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you | keep me safe;you stretch forth your hand against the fury of my enemies; your right | hand shall save me.8You will make good your pur- | pose for me; O LORD, your steadfast love endures forever; do not abandon the works | of your hands.

Hymn of the DayLord, Listen To Your Children Praying…….

………#752

Lord, listen to your children praying, Lord, send your Spirit in this place; Lord, listen to your children praying, send us love, send us pow’r, send us grace. Apostles Creed……….…….……………..…………………Page 105 C: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of

heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayers of Intercession P: Hidden yet ever-present God, always loving, never tiring, we seek your aid. Lord in your mercy. C: Hear our prayer.

P: You see the unrevealed suffering of innumerable souls, and hear the raw weeping of your countless children. Lord in your mercy. C: Hear our prayer. P: O let your breath be upon all you see, your hands upon all disease, your arms around all distress, and your kiss on all tormented minds. Lord in your mercy. C: Hear our prayer. P: Hidden yet ever-present God, please do for us those things that we cannot do for ourselves, yet make us bold to do what we can do. Lord in your mercy. C: Hear our prayer. P: For the healing of your world and the glory of your name, we ask that you hear all our prayers and whatever else is heavy on our hearts. Through Christ Jesus, our redeemer.

Lord’s Prayer………………….………..…….………………Page 154

Holy Communion Holy Communion is a time to build our relationship with Jesus who is present with us in this meal. So come, all those with great faith and all those who are seeking, all

those who have been here often and all those who have just come. Come, the Lord welcomes you to the table. We have gluten free wafers and non-alcoholic wine in the center and tell an usher if you are unable to come forward, as communion will be brought to you. Come…Jesus welcomes you.

Communion Hymn 1…We Come To The Hungry Feast…#479

We come to the hungry feast hungry for a word of peace. To hungry hearts unsatisfied the love of God is not denied. We come, we come to the hungry feast.

We come to the hungry feast hungry for a world released from hungry folk of ev’ry kind, the poor in body, poor in mind. We come, we come to the hungry feast.

We come to the hungry feast hungry that the hunger cease, and knowing, though we

eat our fill, the hunger will stay with us; still we come, we come to the hungry feast.

Communion Hymn 2………….….Here Is Bread………..….#483

Here is bread, here is wine, Christ is with us, he is with us. Break the bread, taste the wine, Christ is with us here.

Here is grace, here is peace, Christ is with us, he is with us. Know his grace, find his peace, feast on Jesus here. Here we are, joined in one, Christ is with us, he is with us. We’ll proclaim till he comes Jesus crucified.

Communion Prayer P: Almighty and merciful God, your son has revealed the wonder of your saving love in this sacrament. Renew your people by your loving kindness and sustain us in all our weakness by your mighty power.

We ask this through your son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C: Amen.

Sending Hymn..…………..….Lord Of Light…….……….....#688

Lord of light, your name outshining all the stars and suns of space, use our talents in your kingdom as the servants of your grace; use us to fulfill your purpose in the gift of Christ you Son.

Refrain:

Father, as in highest heaven, so on earth your will be done.

By the toil of faithful workers in some far outlying field, by the courage where the radiance of the cross is still revealed, by the victories of meekness, through reproach and suff’ring won. Refrain.

Grant the knowledge, still increasing, at your feet may lowly kneel; with your grace our triumphs hallow, with your charity our zeal; lift the nations from the shadows to the gladness of the sun. Refrain.By the prayers of faithful watchers, never silent day or night; by the cross of Jesus, bringing peace to all and healing light; by the love that passes knowledge, making all your children one. Refrain.

P: Go in peace. Share God’s love with all! C: Thanks be to God!
