Introducing the DockThe Dock is a convenient place to access the apps you use the most. To add to the dock, click and drag the

program icon to the dock. Items will rearrange themselves to make room.

The Finder helps you navigate all of the files and folders on your Mac. Browse your apps, disks, files, and folders in a variety of ways. can also use the Finder to search for items, delete files you no longer want, and more.

Launchpad helps you find, organize, and easily open your apps.

Safari internet browser. It works with iCloud to let you browse seamlessly across all your devices.

Mail lets you put all your email accounts in one place for easy access.

Calendar keeps you on schedule. It displays appointments, birthdays, maps, travel time, and other important events. Sync events across devices by signing in with iCloud.

Address Book makes it easy to manage your current address book, personal organizer, or business card collection

Create and share documents and memos with Notes.

The Trash is where you discard unwanted files. You can also click and drag plugged-in devices to eject them.

Maps makes it simple to get information on local points of interest and directions.

Use Message to send messages using iMessage, or one of many third party messaging services.

Facetime: Make video calls from your Mac to another Mac — or to an iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch.

Music allows you to play, organize, burn and much more with your music. Access the new Radio feature to stream your favorite stations.

iBooks stores and organizes the books you get from iTunes, as well as PDFs and EPUBs that you download from the Internet.

The App Store is where you can download games and other apps for you Mac.

Access system Settings.

Finder

Miss the Start Button and the ‘All Programs’ from your PC? Finder is the equivalent in your Mac.

Launchpad

Brings up all apps that are installed on the computer. Create folders of like-type items by clicking and dragging one icon on top of another. Open any app by double-clicking on an icon.

: Closes (but doesn’t quit) and application.

 

: Minimizes the window.

: Expands the window to full screen

 

To completely quite an application, press Command and the Q key.

The Application Menu

Information and controls for an application that you have open can be found in the upper-left of the screen (it defaults to Finder if no application is open).

Commands such as ‘New’, ‘Open’, or ‘Quit’ are often found here. The Command symbol and letter combinations are keyboard shortcuts for the same operation.

System Preferences

Click on the apple symbol in the top-left screen to access system preferences.

Internet Accounts

Permanently login in to all of you most frequently used internet accounts such as Facebook, Gmail, or Yahoo. Logging in to certain accounts will sync your Mail, Calendar, Contacts, and Messages between devices and accounts.

Menulet

Use the icons on the menulet to:

Access wifi networks

Check battery information

Use Spotlight to search the entire computer and iTunes.

Access notifications

Today and Notifications

Click on Today to see information on the weather and from your calendar.

Click on Notifications to see updates pertaining to email, Facetime, Message, and various apps.

You can choose what shows up in this section by clicking on the ‘Edit’ button at the bottom of the screen.

Connect to WiFiClick on the WiFi bars to see surrounding available networks. Networks with a lock beside

them require a password.
