Services for Families

After Jessica Waite’s husband died in November 2015, she was worried that the memory of her husband would be tainted by pain forever. People close to her stopped mentioning her husband for fear of making her feel sad, and it in fact started to build a sense of isolation – would she be the only one that wanted to talk about him?

She found support through Hospice Calgary’s Child & Family Grief Services Kids Club program. Jessica and her young son, Dash, were able to connect with other grieving individuals, benefiting from the opportunity to engage in peer support.

Last year, more than 2,300 children, teens and adults received support through Hospice Calgary’s client services including counselling and group programs, like Kids Club. Hospice Calgary’s commitment to our clients is to create a sense of normalcy, establish connection and equip each person with the skills and knowledge needed to reintegrate into their own community while grieving the death of someone close to them.

Jessica took this support and turned it into an even larger community by founding the website http://endlessstories.love/ - an online community for people to share their stories and celebrate people close to them after they have died. Jessica’s idea to create a safe space online for others to have a voice during their grief is inspiring and it is making an impact. As Jessica says on her website, she wants to “turn up the volume on good memories”. The Hospice Calgary team couldn’t agree more and have since shared this link with many of their clients, reminding them that their community of support is bigger than they know.

Through the vital support of Together in Action, Hospice Calgary is able to provide programs and services to grieving families like Jessica and Dash.
