ECO INNOVATORS SELF HELP GROUP:

INTRODUCTION:

The eco innovators self help group is registered as a self help group with the registrar of society in Kisumu county. The group is located in Kisumu opposite Kibuye market where they do their innovations coming up with different technologies to promote value addition and job opportunities for its members and the communities around it.

The group is currently working on a waste management program and an energy production unit. We have establish this program to help in the utilization of waste in the city through generation of fuel and other valuable products like fertilizers, biogas and others.

We are dedicated to getting lasting solution to our waste problems in Kisumu city as we move forward.

OBJECTIVES.

-To provide cheap and affordable energy solution to the households.

-To provide waste management solution to the city, through proper/ decent collection of the waste and value addition.

-To promote tree planting and environmental conservation in the city.

-Creating job opportunities to the women and youth in the locality and the city.

-Creating an alternative source of fuel to the charcoal which has been the major cause of deforestation which contribute immensely to the climate change and environmental pollution.

-Establishing a successful business opportunity from the waste materials.

SOURCES OF RAW MATERIALS.

1. HOMES; We are targeting to collect some of our raw materials from domestic use, these will include food waste and other solid materials that support burning.

2. DUMP SITES: these are huge damp sites around the city, these will be our main sources of raw materials . these will be at a minimum cost.

3. MANUFACTURES; These are companies that produces things like sugar from sugarcan, rice millers, maize sellers, wood chippers and so on. These are potential producers with huge deposit of hard waste which will be our major suppliers. We are planning to make an agreement to buy

from the companies at a very low cost or get for free since we will be helping the companies manage their waste.

4. MARKETS: These are some of the large producers of waste city and working with them will be of great contribution to our success in getting what is essential for our production of fuel and other possible products.

5. Farmers: From the farmers we are targeting the farm waste generated after harvesting, these include maize cobs, millets, beans etc.

The producers of charcoal which is restricted by the government regulation.

Other fuel like Gas, parafine , fire wood. These form of fuel are expensive, mostly regulated by the government and not readily available.

THE BENEFIT OF BIOMASS PELLETTING.

Nowadays everyone is thinking about how to make their homes greener and how to save energy. Everyone is now aware of the problems presented by global warming and we are all thinking of ways to change our lifestyle in order to help stop this phenomenon and keep our world safe. This is why biomass pellets are important.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:

The main source of energy for most homes and industries and hotels around the world is fossil fuel, which usually makes use of coal/ charcoal in order to power boilers to make steam for energy, to prepare food and other energy uses. Briquettes are made from biomass are a grate substitute for coal/ charcoal since they are made of natural materials and do not add to the pollution in the world.

Because of the production of pellets, many companies use biomass briquettes since they found out about its benefits and how it can lower their carbon footprint while being affordable. These briquettes are cheaper than coal or charcoal in the long run, and can be used for a long time.

Coal is one of the most dangerous ways to produce energy nowadays because of its pollution to our environment. This is why it is necessary for us to limit our use of charcoal and find another way to get our energy. Biomass is a greater way to do this since it is cheap and easy to get and use.

Usually the briquettes are made from plants and natural waste from animal, these can be recycled and be turned into an energy source. These are an ideal materials for energy.

They do not have any of the disadvantages of fossil fuel energy and it is easily renewable. It does not emit green house gases or any toxic chemicals.

The biomass materials are compressed into briquettes so that they can be used by energy producing companies to replace charcoal. These burn just like charcoal but they do not produce any harmful effects to the environment. They can be used to boil water and power turbines to generate electricity.

In the modern world, everyone needs electricity. It is a very much sought after utility, since we rely on technology that runs on electricity to live our lives. Because of this need, people resorted to using fossil fuels to power cities. But briquettes from biomass can change all of this.
