Reader’s Workshop

Ask your child: In the Read Aloud Junie B.

Jones, Turkeys We Have Loved and Eaten Mrs. Smoral is modeling how good readers monitor their reading to make sure their reading makes sense.

I am learning that I may need to infer, or use clues in a story, to answer a question or questions about what I have read.

Ask me what new facts I have learned as I have researched the First Thanksgiving using websites and books.

What are some text features that help me find information in nonfiction books?

Ask me to retell the story, A Turkey for Thanksgiving. I learned stories like this with dialogue can be written as a Reader’s Theater.

I learned some Thanksgiving songs! Ask me to sing these songs!

Ask me what I have learned about Colonial Times as I read a Question/Answer book with my reading partner.

Writer’s Workshop: Ask your child: I wrote a list of what I am thankful for in my life. I created a “Thankful Turkey” for someone and then wrote a

letter of thanks to that person. I created a turkey in disguise and then wrote about my

turkey! Ask me to log into Google Classroom and share my work!

I am working on spelling, capitalization and punctuation in all my writing pieces.

I continue to add and subtract two and three digit numbers using the open ended number line strategy. I am learning there are always multiple ways to solve problems.

This week I solved lots of story problems. I know I need to write an equation then solve the problem and show my work. I’m writing story problems too!
