Maple Leaf Table Runner A Quilt Circle project designed by Karlene Larson and Aby Dolinger 20” x 56” Make 5 Maple Leaf blocks of various colors that finish at 9” square. Use the instructions previously written and distributed by Karlene. Sew the 5 blocks together, turning the blocks as shown in the diagram. The project should measure 9 ½” x 45 ½.” First Border: Cut 3 strips of dark fabric 2” x width of fabric. Join right sides together with diagonal seams to make one long strip. Press seams open. Sub-cut as follows: *Cut 2 strips 2” x 45 ½.” Sew these strips to the 45 ½” length of the table runner. Press seams toward the border. *Cut 2 strips 2” x 12 ½.” Sew these strips to the 12 ½”width of the table runner. Press seams toward the border. Second Border: Make 68 Flying Geese (2” x 4” finished) or 34 Four Patches (4” x 4” finished) or any other patched or plain border that finishes at 4” wide. Refer to the Summer Project instructions for ideas. You may strip piece the Four Patches by cutting strips 2 ½” x width of fabric. You need 1 strip of each of 5 colors and 5 strips of the light background fabric. Sew each colored fabric to a background strip, right sides together. Press seams toward the darker color. Cross-cut in 2 ½” increments. Join 2 of these units to make a Four Patch which measures 4 ½” square, unfinished.

20” x 56”Make 5 Maple Leaf blocks of various colors that finish at 9” square. Use the instructions previously written and distributed by Karlene.

Sew the 5 blocks together, turning the blocks as shown in the diagram. The project should measure 9 ½” x 45 ½.”

First Border: Cut 3 strips of dark fabric 2” x width of fabric. Join right sides together with diagonal seams to make one long strip. Press seams open. Sub-cut as follows:*Cut 2 strips 2” x 45 ½.” Sew these strips to the 45 ½” length of the table runner.

Finishing: Layer and baste backing, batting and quilt top. Quilt the leaves with swirls. Quilt in the ditch on both sides of dark border. Quilt an “X” through Four Patches or a loop through Flying Geese. Alternately, a continuous curve design on the all the geometric shapes would add dimension to the project.
