Flesh Vs. Spirit Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble and at the foot of the cross” and “stay in contact with His salvation”. These ideas describe a perverted doctrine and are propagated by false prophets, “evil beasts”, supported only by a lack of Biblical knowledge, a lack of Biblical right division, and a general misguided application of NT passages from James, 1 John, as well as various teachings of Jesus, while preaching the “gospel of the kingdom”. We are going to focus primarily on the teachings from the book of 1 John. (James chapter 2 has been covered at the very end of Liar, Liar, Lake of Fire.) We will also attempt to address the non-biblical idea of “remain humble and stay at the foot of the cross”. Every man sins John 8:7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you , let him first cast a stone at her. Romans 3:23 For all have sinned , and come short of the glory of God; Romans 3:12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Ecclesiastes 7:20 For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not . The Bible is very clear that every man sins. This is undeniable. I am not denying it. But the Bible is also very clear on one other thing.

Flesh Vs. SpiritUnderstanding the difference with respect to Salvation

This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble and at the foot of the cross” and “stay in contact with His salvation”.These ideas describe a perverted doctrine and are propagated by false prophets, “evil beasts”, supported only by a lack of Biblical knowledge, a lack of Biblical right division, and a general misguided application of NT passages from James, 1 John, as well as various teachings of Jesus, while preaching the “gospel of the kingdom”.We are going to focus primarily on the teachings from the book of 1 John. (James chapter 2 has been covered at the very end of Liar, Liar, Lake of Fire.) We will also attempt to address the non-biblical idea of “remain humble and stay at the foot of the cross”.

Every man sinsJohn 8:7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Romans 3:12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Ecclesiastes 7:20 For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.The Bible is very clear that every man sins. This is undeniable.I am not denying it. But the Bible is also very clear on one other thing.

Every man that is born of God does not and cannot sinColossians 2:11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:The body of flesh, with its sins are put off at salvation. Note: made without hands. This is not something a human can do.

Romans 6:22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

1 John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

Page 2: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

1 John 5:18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.The Bible is very clear that the saved man can no longer sin. This is undeniable.

What is the problem? These two teachings (1 John 1:8-10 and 1 John 3:9, 5:18) seem to contradict each other.

1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.1 John 1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

1 John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.1 John 5:18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

And then we have what looks like a commandment to walk in the light or else you will not be cleansed from your sins. And a promise that if you do walk in the light, you will be cleansed.

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Are these contradictory? Does this not line up with the rest of the Bible?

What is the answer? The answer can only be understood by rightly dividing the word of truth. (2 Timothy 2:15)Here, we must divide the two differing, yet completely true doctrines.

1) Every man does sin, and can sin.2) Every man that is born of God does not sin, and cannot sin.

Divide as such: One applies to the sinful flesh, one applies to the perfect spirit of a saved man. One applies to before salvation, and one applies to after salvation.

The answer is that the spirit of a Christian is made perfect at salvation (by grace through faith alone), but the flesh is not changed at all.

Hebrews 12:23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,

Hebrews 9:9 Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience; If the spirit (or conscience) is perfect, there is no more possibility of sin.

Page 3: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

Hebrews 10:1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.Hebrews 10:2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.Hebrews 10:3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year .If you have a conscience and a remembrance of sins, you are not made perfect.Jesus did what the law could not do; purge our spirit, our mind, our conscience, so that we do not think about or remember sin anymore. We need no more purification/forgiveness/justification/etc.

How is it possible that a Christian cannot sin?First you need to understand where mankind is before Christ: under the law.Galatians 4:5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. How is one redeemed? How is one freed?

Romans 7:4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.The only way to be free from sin is to die Rom 7:2-3.And that is what you become when you become “in Christ” (a Christian). You become dead to sin.

Romans 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. Not only are you dead to the law, but you are dead to sin.

John 8:34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

Romans 6:22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. And so we are made free from the law and free from sin, and thus free from death.

Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.A Christian CANNOT SIN why? Because he is dead to, and thus freed from sin.

Romans 6:7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.But this only applies to the conscience, the spirit of a man, not the flesh AT ALL.Your flesh has not yet died.

Page 4: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. The spirit is made alive and free from sin. The flesh doesn’t change one little bit.

1 Peter 2:11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which

war against the soul ;1. The flesh of a man is corrupt and always will sin.2. The spirit of a saved man is perfect and cannot sin.

These two absolute truths war against eachother and make for a confusing and ugly battlefield.

Galatians 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.Yes, a Christian can still sin. But it is not the Christian’s soul/spirit at all, it is only the corrupt flesh. The spirit cannot always do what it desires to do.

Matthew 26:41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Paul explains and confirms this answer:Romans 7:15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.Romans 7:16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.Romans 7:17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

Romans 7:18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh ,) dwelleth no good thing : for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. This is the dead center heart of the answer.A Christian cannot sin. It is only sin that dwells in his flesh.

Colossians 1:27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:But I have Christ in my flesh, right? No, sorry. Christ does not dwell in one’s flesh. Christ dwells in one’s spirit – one’s heart - one’s inner part.

Ephesians 3:17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,Christ never dwells in one’s flesh. The flesh is not made perfect until it dies and is resurrected. It must die to be “freed from sin” just like the spirit must.

Romans 7:22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:Romans 7:23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.Romans 7:24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? The law of sin is still in the members – the flesh – of the saved man.

Page 5: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

The difference between a saved and unsaved man, is that once we (our soul-spirit) are delivered out of this corrupt body, the saved man is not able to sin.

Romans 7:25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin .The Bible (Jesus, Paul, and the Jewish apostles) is very clear on the answer. For the man that is born again, i.e. saved by repentance and belief on Jesus Christ alone:

The mind is not under the law of sin, but the flesh is under the law of sin. The law of sin is in the flesh, the law of sin is not in the spirit, the soul, the mind. The inward man cannot sin, but the outward man cannot not sin. The spiritual mind cannot sin, but the carnal mind cannot not sin. The saved spirit cannot sin, but the members, the body, the flesh, cannot not sin.

In short, that is the answer. But now, we will both prove this sufficiently, and refute the idea that John in his first epistle was teaching that we have to “walk in the light” or else we lose salvation.First, we need to understand the spiritual inner man and set the Biblical context for the passage.

Born of the Spirit – Born of God1 John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin ; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God .Understand that what is incapable of sin is NOT your body – your flesh.Your flesh is not born of God.

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again , he cannot see the kingdom of God. John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh ; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit .Your spirit (if saved) is born of God.

Galatians 4:29 But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.

Walk after the Spirit (Live in the Spirit)Romans 8:5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are

after the Spir it the things of the Spirit. If you are born of the flesh, then you ARE AFTER the flesh. If you are born of God, born of the Spirit, then you ARE AFTER the Spirit. What you are after defines what things you are naturally going to do – and desire to do.

Are you after a dog, a fish, a rooster, a snake?

Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God .

Page 6: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

We are all naturally led by the flesh. Led by our flesh and taught by our fleshly fathers. We all naturally are the sons of man and are led by (walk after) the flesh. We grow into men. We learn to become men. We are driven by human nature.

Romans 8:4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. This is not about what you DO, this is about who you ARE.Being born of the flesh will make you “after the flesh”. You will walk LIKE or HOW flesh does.

Does a toddler walk like a dog? Slither like a snake? Swim like a fish? Fly like an eagle?Being born of the Spirit will make you “after the Spirit”. You will walk like what you are.A Christian’s soul and spirit are no longer “after the flesh”.They are now led by the Spirit. They are driven not by human nature, but by the Spirit’s nature.Only they that are born of the Spirit:

Live in the Spirit Are in the Spirit Are led of the Spirit Are after the Spirit Walk after the Spirit

I believe that these phrases are all equivalent in Scripture. You are encouraged to study for yourself.

Romans 8:13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.Ye shall live, and he cannot sin, are only true of the spirit which is born of God. Not true of the flesh which was born of man.It is not what you DO, it is what you CAN DO.Its not really what you DO, it is what you ARE and what you ARE AFTER. That is what determines eternal life.

Romans 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.Romans 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.The fleshly mind cannot be made to “stay at the foot of the cross” and “stay humble” and “keep his commandments”. If you have a spiritual mind, then and only then, can you keep the law and please God.

Romans 8:8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.Romans 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.Romans 8:10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. You’re either in the flesh or in the Spirit – one is dead – one is alive.Only if you have the Spirit of God dwelling in your spirit can you please him and keep his laws. Its really not what you DO, its what you HAVE and what your are IN.The Christian’s spirit cannot sin, because it cannot displease God.

Page 7: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

If you think your flesh can please God or make you perfect before Him, you’re wrong! You have been lied to (bewitched), and told that your actions, your works, your flesh, can affect your salvation!Galatians 3:1 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? This is the kind of thing they were talking about – Paul’s letters are weighty and powerful.Galatians 3:2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

Galatians 3:3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit , are ye now made perfect by the flesh? If you began in, were born of, the Spirit, then you cannot walk like flesh, you can only walk like Spirit. So how can your flesh make you walk any better or worse? It is a completely different creature (2 Cor 5:17) and it cannot change who or what you ARE.

Walk in the SpiritHere is what 1 John is all about:Galatians 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit .Does a baby grow into a dog? Does it walk like one?Does a tadpole grow into a bird? Does it fly like one?The spirit of a saved man is not going to walk like flesh walks. If it walks AT ALL, it is going to walk spiritually.A Christian’s spirit either walks in the Spirit, or it doesn’t walk at all.If He abides in us and we are in Him, in the Spirit, in the light… let us also walk. DO what you DO.And so we are commanded to walk accordingly (LET US).

1 John 2:6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked. If he abides in us, then we OUGHT to walk in the light. Why? Because we ARE in the light! So Walk.

1 John 4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. If you are of the Spirit and have the love of God abiding in you (i.e. saved), then you OUGHT to LET it out.Likewise Jesus says to LET your light so shine before men (Matt 5:16).

James 3:8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.James 3:9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.James 3:10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.James 3:11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?James 3:12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh. This is a key to understanding the battle of flesh vs. spirit. Even though no fountain sends forth both sweet water and bitter, a Christian does. A Christian can send forth good works from the Spirit and evil works from the flesh.

Page 8: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

A Christian can walk in the Spirit (with his spirit), and also walk in the flesh (with his flesh). And it all comes out at the same place. This ought not to be so.. but it is so.

Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. If a Christian is sending forth sweet water (good works from the heart), then he is not sending forth bitter (evil works from the flesh). (James 3:11 says “place” not “time”)Walk in the Spirit is a commandment to the Christian. But it is not a salvation stipulation. If a Christian fails to Walk in the Spirit, he does not lose salvation. Not even Paul’s spirit was strong enough to overcome the flesh all the time.

Now that you understand what it means to be “born of the Spirit” and to “walk in the Spirit”…1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.Truthfully, 1 John does not say that if we do not walk in the light, that we do not have salvation.Failing to do so is NOT equivalent to “walking in darkness”.It just says, if we DO walk in the light, then He is in us, and He cleanseth us from all sin, etc.I believe “walk in the light” is equivalent to “walk in the Spirit”. I believe you will agree as we continue. If you swap “Spirit” for “light”… does that mean we have to walk to have salvation? NO.But we know that if your spirit walks AT ALL, it means that you are in the Spirit. (Gal. 5:25, John 3:6)Likewise, to walk in the light is only possible if you “live in the light”. It is not possible unless you have been born of God.It is something we OUGHT to do, but not something that is required to gain salvation (just like “Spirit”).Once you are in the Spirit (the light), you have the ability to walk in the Spirit (the light).

Where The Natural Man Goes Wrong1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.The natural man thinks that if he wants to be cleansed from his sin, he needs to “walk in the light”.The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin… but only if we walk in the light… with our flesh????Do you understand the doctrinal hole you dig yourself into with this lack of division, lack of application, lack of understanding, lack of interpretation?

You have to divide flesh from spirit. If you do not, you will not understand and you will fall into heresy.

Let’s break down 1 John 1:7 and figure out where this natural man goes wrong...

The natural man wrongly assumes this is criteria for how to be saved.1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.Be careful with if-thens.Not every “if” in the Bible gives chronological directionality.

Page 9: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

For example, consider: “If the home team gets the trophy, they are winners.”This does not imply that getting the trophy comes before the winning. It just implies that the one necessitates the other:

“If you get the trophy then you are a winner.” (True, but it doesn’t change the game – you can’t just take the trophy – you have to win it.)

Which one comes first does not always have to come right after the “if”.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.Romans 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:Ephesians 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. There is no walking, or works, involved. This is the gospel of Jesus Christ, and 1 John will never change it.The Apostle John was not trying to change it, or explain a different gospel from Paul.John was not trying to convey criteria to GET saved. But rather the state, the make up, the composition of a saved man vs. a lost man.

Back to 1 John 1:7…1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.Not every “if” in the Bible implies “if and only if”.

Inverse of previous example: “If you are a winner, you get the trophy.” (Not necessarily true)Also consider: “If I eat greasy pizza, I will have a stomach ache.”This does not equate to: “If I have a stomach ache, I ate greasy pizza.

It does not say the inverse – if we have the Blood of Christ, then we walk in the light (FALSE)It does not say that if we DO NOT walk in the light, that we do not have the Blood of Christ. It does not say that if you DO NOT walk in the light, that you are walking in darkness.Failing to “walk in the light” is NOT equivalent to “walking in darkness”. One could not be walking at all!Does a human baby have to walk, to be of man? Does the walking come before being born?If it does not walk, is it now of a dog?Nowhere in the Bible does it say that IF we DO NOT walk in the light, we do not have salvation. It just says, IF we DO walk in the light, then we know that we DO salvation. (Just like the Spirit)

1 John 1:7 is not criteria to be saved!

The natural man wrongly assumes that one can both walk in the light and in the darkness. The natural man wrongly assumes that he who walks in the light can also walk in darkness.

Page 10: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

Matthew 6:22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.Matthew 6:23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!Jesus does not leave a bit of grey area. You’re either FULL of darkness or FULL of light. No man has both. There is no, “Well, I’m mostly light but I have some darkness and sin that I have to fight.”

Luke 11:35 Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.Luke 11:36 If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.Where you walk is determined by what is IN you.And what is in you is not partial. You are either full of light or full of darkness.Jesus does not give any indication that you can have both light and darkness.

1 John 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all .If you are in Him, and He is in you, how can there be darkness at all in you?If He is not in you, then you are full of only darkness, and no part light at all.

James 3:14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.James 3:15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.James 3:16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work .If you have a little bit of evil in your heart, then you have EVERY evil work. There is no light at all in you.

You cannot have both darkness and light. You cannot walk in both darkness and light.

The natural man wrongly assumes that the saved man can walk in darkness.1 John 1:6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:Notice this: SAY!If you say you’re a Christian but you walk in darkness… you’re lying. Why?Because a Christian (a sinner who was saved by grace) CANNOT walk in darkness. He cannot sin.

1 Peter 4:3 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:Before salvation (the time past), a man walks in sin and darkness.

Ephesians 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:Ephesians 2:3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

Page 11: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

Yes, even Paul, who was blameless according to the righteousness of the law, walked in darkness. The walking in the flesh is past for the Christian.

1 John 2:8 Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth. But IN YOU, there is no darkness at all. It is past. Its what is IN you that is important.

Ephesians 5:8 For ye were sometimes darkness , but now are ye light in the Lord : walk as children of light:What is important? … What you ARE, not what you DO.If you are light, and light is in you, having no part dark… how could you walk in darkness? You can’t!

1 Thessalonians 5:4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. If you aren’t in darkness, how can you walk in darkness? You can’t!

Again from earlier:1 John 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all .If you are in Him, you are not in darkness.

John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.It is completely impossible.SPIRIT vs. FLESH!!!!

John 11:9 Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day , he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.John 11:10 But if a man walk in the night , he stumbleth , because there is no light in him.Experiment by flipping the light on. Try to walk in the light.Whoever walks in the light, CANNOT SIN.

1 John 2:10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.It doesn’t say “he is not currently stumbling” or “he is really good at dodging the stumblingstones”.Rather, there is no occasion (possibility-opportunity-chance) of stumbling.. in him (his spirit). There is not a shred of darkness or the possibility of walking in darkness in the man that is “in the light”.This is for the spirit of the saved man. If your flesh were in the light, it would have no possibility of hate or sin.

You do not have to choose between 1 John 1:7-10 and 1 John 3:9. They are perfectly compatible. The natural man wrongly assumes that the saved man can walk in darkness.

Page 12: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

The natural man wrongly assumes that he can walk in the light.1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.If I can just “walk in the light” I get fellowship and the blood of Christ…. ?!?!? First of all – if you think you will be saved by “walking in the light” as Jesus did, you are very very mistaken. You cannot walk as Jesus did. If you could, you would not have needed him to walk in the light himself and to die as your Saviour. You can’t walk in the light because you ARE NOT in the light.

Remember our experiment? Let’s try the reverse. Turn off the lights and then attempt to walk in the light.

1 John 2:9 He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now .There is no flip flopping back and forth between light and darkness. If you CAN sin, if you CAN hate, then you are and always have been in the darkness. You’ve never been in the light. You’ve never once walked in the light.

1 John 3:6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.It does not say that we know him, but if we sin we stop knowing Him.If you commit sin you have never seen Him, and never known Him.You better be abiding in Him, where it is impossible to sin!

A man who is able to commit sin CANNOT and NEVER HAS walked in the light. Let me explain:

1) You have to come to the light before you can walk in it.John 3:20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.John 3:21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.A man is required to come to the light. If you don’t come to it, you cannot be in it, cannot walk in it.This passage describes Bible salvation:

Your deeds (works, walking) are in darkness or they are in light. If you come to the light, manifesting your deeds, and have them reproved, you are no longer an evil doer; you are a doer of truth. (Repentance and Submission)THEN, your deeds are now in the light, they are “wrought in God”.

1 Timothy 6:16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto ; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen. The natural man cannot just decide to come to the light. Can’t just flip the switch.God has to bring him, he has to be brought.

Page 13: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

1 Corinthians 4:5 Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.The Lord has to bring you to the light. You can’t be in the light unless he brings you to it.

1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye

should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:You have to be called OUT OF darkness and INTO the light.A saved man is no longer in darkness. But an unsaved man is not in the light. So how can he walk in the light?

2 Timothy 1:10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath

abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel :The gospel of Jesus Christ is what brings things to light.

John 12:36 While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them. And who is the light? Jesus Christ. What is the light? The Word of God. The gospel of Christ.

John 12:46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. It isn’t what you do, but what you BELIEVE that bring you to the light.

Acts 26:18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light , and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.You have to be TURNED to light from darkness. You have to be TURNED from Satan to God.Otherwise, you are still in darkness and not in the light. As such, you can’t walk in the light. If you have come to the light, then you have forgiveness of sins and an eternal inheritance. No walking is required to be saved!!!

Revelation 21:24 And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.You have to be SAVED before you can walk in the light. Not the other way around. It doesn’t come before salvation. It is possible only after salvation.

2) You have to be OF the light.John 12:36 While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light . These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.Belief is required so that you are OF the light.

Page 14: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

1 Thessalonians 5:5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. You have to be OF the light.

3) You have to be given the lightEphesians 5:14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall

give thee light.

John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life .Its not what you DO, it is what you HAVE.

John 12:35 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.John 12:36 While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them. You have to believe in order to become a child OF light and HAVE light. You have to have the light in order to walk in the light. Jesus was the light of the world while he was in it. But he left this world in darkness. The only light in this world now is in the spirit of Christians.

John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. You cannot, you SHALL not, walk in darkness if you have Christ. There is no, “I try to follow Christ, but sometime I sin and mess up and walk in darkness.” That is impossible. What does it mean to follow Jesus? Deny yourself, take up your cross, and then be a living sacrifice. A saved spirit has already followed and died with Christ.

If you have Christ, you have the light. If you don’t have Christ, you don’t have light. If you have Christ, you have life. If you don’t have Christ, you don’t have life. (The Record - 1 John 5)

4) You have to have the light IN you.John 11:10 But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.You need to have light IN YOU.

Matthew 6:22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.Matthew 6:23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!Close your eyes: how much light or understanding of your surroundings do you have?

Page 15: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

John 11:9 Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world. Can your eye see the light? If you have spiritual eyes that have been opened and are no longer blind, then you are filled with light. If you have eyes that are blinded (a dead spirit) you have no light in you.

Luke 11:35 Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.Luke 11:36 If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.Note: Jesus not talking about the physical body, but the spiritual body.

2 Corinthians 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts , to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

If you don’t have the light (Jesus Christ) in your heart, you cannot walk in the light.

5) You have to be IN the light1 Peter 2:9 …. called you out of darkness into his marvellous light

1 John 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.You have to be “in Christ”. And if you are IN Him, you are in the light.

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. Notice what it doesn’t say: “If we walk in the light, as he walks in the light.”Rather, the walking is derived from BEING IN the light. If you are not in the light, you cannot walk in the light.

1 John 2:9 He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.1 John 2:10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. You are either in darkness or in the light. Whatever you are in (abide in) that is where you will walk.

1 John 2:11 But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes. Our flesh IS in darkness.

John 12:46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. Its not what you DO, it is what you ABIDE IN.

Revelation 21:23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

Page 16: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

Revelation 21:24 And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.You have to be in Christ (in the Lamb) to walk in Christ (the Lamb). Not just true today, but in the past and in all of eternity too.You have to be IN the light to walk in the light.

Galatians 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. You have to be in the Spirit to walk in the Spirit. You have to be IN the light to walk in the light.

6) You have to BE lightJohn 9:5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world .There was light in the world. But Jesus is no longer here. The only light in the world now is… a Christian. That light is not in their flesh, but in their Heart!

To His disciples He said:Matthew 5:14 Ye are the light of the world . A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

And Paul says to the church:Ephesians 5:8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord : walk as children of light:You have to Be light. You have to Be a Christian.Loaded verse:

1) Were darkness2) Now ARE light3) In the Lord4) Walk as

Before being IN THE LORD, or IN CHRIST, we are all darkness. That is what we are, and what we walk in.After salvation, when one is IN THE LORD, we are light. That is what we are, and we are commanded, encouraged, warned to, walk in the light, i.e. WALK AS children of light.

2 Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness ?2 Corinthians 6:15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?Unbelievers. Non-Christians are Darkness. Believers are Light. You are of Christ or you are of Belial. Who you are of, defines what you are. What you are, defines what how you walk.

Now back to our little “problem text”..1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.People teach and believe that this is criteria to become saved.

Page 17: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

People teach and believe that they can walk in the light by themselves, by doing good and not sinning.People teach and believe that they have to keep themselves in the light to be saved. All of these are completely false doctrines. If you will search the scriptures, and study the topics of light and darkness, you will not see any proof of any of these claims.

Isaiah 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! The darkness cannot walk in the light, and the light cannot walk in the darkness. It is heresy, blasphemy to teach otherwise.

In summary of this point:The unsaved man cannot walk in the light because:

1) He has not COME TO the light2) He is not OF the light3) He was not GIVEN the light4) He has no light IN him5) He is not IN the light6) He IS not light

The natural man wrongly assumes that he can have fellowship with the body of Christ.1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

2 Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? You cannot have fellowship (or communion) with the light if you are OF the darkness.

1 Corinthians 10:16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?Communion (or fellowship) with the brotherhood, the church, does not come from the flesh and from Sunday Chili Cookoffs after service.

2 Corinthians 13:14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen. Communion is by the Holy Ghost. As well as by being “in Christ”, “in the Spirit”, and “in the light”.

Ephesians 4:18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:You are not alienated because you walk in darkness, you are alienated because your heart is in darkness.

Page 18: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

The natural man wrongly assumes that the blood of Christ is given by works.1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin if we walk in the light… with our flesh????

Matthew 26:27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;Matthew 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. You have to drink (receive) the blood for it to be applied to your heart.

Romans 3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:Romans 5:2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.So it is faith that gives you access into God’s grace. Then skip down…

Romans 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood , we shall be saved from wrath through him.Grace is giving you the blood of Christ when you do not deserve it.NOW the blood justifies us.Faith and grace come before the blood is applied.

You better receive the blood of Christ in this way exactly!1 Corinthians 11:27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord,

unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord .1 Corinthians 11:29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. And unsaved man who approaches to or touches the blood of Christ without faith and repentance gets nothing but GUILT and damnation. The blood doesn’t sprinkle on his heart, but instead it is on his hands and on his head!

He is not innocent, but guilty of the blood. Acts 5:28, Matt 27:24, Gen 9:5, Eze 33:4Paul says “your blood be upon your own heads” – Acts 18:6Just like the Jews who yelled “crucify Him” and “His blood be on us” (Matt 26:25), they do not understand and differentiate the Lord’s body, and the Lord’s blood. Its completely different than the blood of bulls and goats. It did not simply replace it.

Hebrews 9:12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.The blood of Christ is applied ONCE, and is not taken away again. You better receive it by faith in it.

Page 19: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

You better receive it on your heart by the Spirit, and not on your flesh by your own hands.

Romans 4:4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.Romans 4:5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. He that worketh.. reward of debt.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.Eternal life is not earned by children of Adam… it is gifted!

The natural man wrongly assumes the blood of Christ is applied to your flesh1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.The blood of Christ does not cleanse your flesh, because it is not applied to your flesh.

Hebrews 9:13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:Hebrews 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?The blood of Christ is not applied to fleshly things.Cleansing the flesh is no different than OT sacrifices. It doesn’t take away sin.

1 Peter 1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied. What is the blood of Christ sprinkled on? Your flesh?

Hebrews 10:22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.Sorry, my friends. I have found no proof that a man’s flesh is cleaned with the blood of Christ. If you find it, do please show me.

The natural man wrongly assumes that God exaggerates1 John 3:6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him , neither known him.God did not say “only knows him a little bit” or “just forgot who God is at the moment”.

1 John 3:7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.

Page 20: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

God didn’t say “he that does more righteousness than sin”, or “he that does more righteousness than the average person”.If you do righteousness, then you are as righteous as JESUS CHRIST! Lets be very clear, YOUR SPIRIT is what has Christ’s righteousness.

1 John 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. He that committeth sin is of the devil.God did not say “he that committeth a lot of sin.” “He that sins all the time.” Or even “He that commits sin more than once a week”… No.God said he that committeth sin, ANY sin, is of the devil.

1 John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.God didn’t say “doth not commit sin very often”, or “doth not commit the same sin twice”.

1 John 3:10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.God didn’t say “If you hate your brother, if you even tell one little lie to him (a lying tongue hateth), then you have never seen the light.God does not exaggerate.

2 Kings 10:10 Know now that there shall fall unto the earth nothing of the word of the LORD, which the LORD spake concerning the house of Ahab: for the LORD hath done that which he spake by his servant Elijah.

Matthew 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. When God speaks, he fulfills every word.

Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.Proverbs 30:6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

The natural man wrongly applies this to his flesh1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

1 Corinthians 15:50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.

John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Page 21: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

Galatians 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest , which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,Galatians 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,This is what the flesh is and does. It cannot NOT do things of the Spirit.

1 John 2:11 But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes. Our flesh IS in darkness. How then can it walk in the light? If you have one single THOUGHT of hate or ill-will, you have walked in darkness.

1 John 2:9 He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now .If you hate, even ONE TIME, it proves that you have always been in darkness. If ‘walk in the light” applied to your flesh, it would contradict Scripture and make God is a liar.

Philippians 3:3 For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh. If you put confidence in your flesh for salvation, you have wholly not understood the Bible.

And if the natural man thinks that it is indeed spiritual, but that his spirit can accomplish this…Colossians 2:13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; His spirit is dead, because of sin.It has to be quickened (John 6:63, Ephesians 2:1), made alive, because it is dead. How can it walk in the Spirit, if it is dead to the Spirit? His spirit (if it could walk at all) could only walk in the flesh. And in your flesh there is lust, confusion, and every evil work.

Its not hard to understand: something has to be living in order to walk!Galatians 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. An unsaved man cannot walk in the Spirit (or in the light), no matter what.

Did anyone walk in the light before Christ? How can I say that no flesh, or unsaved spirit, can ever walk in the light? What about the OT prophets and saints?Well, let’s see what the OT has to say about whether or not they did “walk” in “light”?

Isaiah 59:9 Therefore is judgment far from us, neither doth justice overtake us: we wait for light, but behold obscurity; for brightness, but we walk in darkness. Why? Because they were the most wicked idolaters and fornicators and murderers?Isaiah 59:12 For our transgressions are multiplied before thee, and our sins testify against us: for our transgressions are with us; and as for our iniquities, we know them; Isaiah 59:13 In transgressing and lying against the Lord, and departing away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood. If you can lie – you walk in darkness.

Page 22: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

If you can hate – you walk in darkness. Its not what you do, its what is in your heart.

Zechariah 8:17 And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbour; and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate, saith the LORD.(And Gen 6:5, Zech 7:10, Matt 5:28, Matt 15:18-20)Don’t let anyone tell you that evil thoughts aren’t sin.

In the OT, nobody walked in the light. They WAITED for the true light to shine, but they walked in darkness.

Isaiah 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

Isaiah 50:10 Who is among you that feareth the Lord, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the Lord, and stay upon his God.Even those that obeyed walked in darkness and had no light! If they were going to get any light, it was going to be from the Lord.

Job 29:1-3 Moreover Job continued his parable, and said, 2 Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me; 3 When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness; Not even Job walked in the light.Nobody walked in the light. They walked “in darkness” and “through darkness” with just a candle to light the way.Have you ever walked through the woods at night without a flashlight? Now imagine there was a flashlight but you didn’t hold it. They illuminate the path for you and you attempt to follow the light, follow the path. The world is darkened and not enlightened, you do not have light in you; and you do not have your own light.

What was the candle? What was that little bit of light they did have?Proverbs 6:23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:The law was able to illuminate the path to life, to identify some of the snares and pits that destroy life. But the darkness was not removed from about them. The walker did not HAVE the light in them.

Isaiah 9:2 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light : they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined. In the OT, nobody walked in the light. But they waited for the true light, the great light to shine…This prophecy was fulfilled in Christ.Paul saw the light of Jesus “above the brightness of the sun”.We all walk in darkness until the GREAT LIGHT shines unto us.

Page 23: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

1 John 2:8 Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because

the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth .

The natural man wrongly assumes I John was written to him.Who was it written to? 1 John 2:13 I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father. It was written to CHRISTIANS. Not to the lost.

1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.1 John was written to believers. Christians. Jewish Christians.

The book of 1 John was not written to a lost man, but to a saved man.1 John 1:7 was not in the context of preaching the gospel to the lost. It is not criteria to be followed in order to gain personal salvation.

So here is the issue with 1 John 1:7…Without a spiritual understanding of the Bible, the natural man deems this criteria to gaining salvation, and not rather, as simply the characteristics of being a saved Christian – a spiritual man.

So the natural man looks at the characteristics of a saved sinner, a real Christian, with a perfect spirit, and says, oh if I can just imitate obedience to God and love of my brother, I will be a Christian too.

But it doesn’t work like that. You have to BE before you can DO.

The natural man wrongly assumes 1 John was written to teach him.Why was it written?1 John 1:4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.

1 John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

1 John 2:25 And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.1 John 2:26 These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.

Page 24: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

Seduce2 Kings 21:9 But they hearkened not: and Manasseh seduced them to do more evil than did the nations whom the LORD destroyed before the children of Israel.Seduce: To cause to do evil, or sin.

But that is not the more prominent and more important definintion…Ezekiel 13:9 And mine hand shall be upon the prophets that see vanity, and that divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD.Ezekiel 13:10 Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, Peace; and there was no peace; and one built up a wall, and, lo, others daubed it with untempered morter:Seduce: To cause to believe a lie.

Mark 13:22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.

2 Timothy 3:13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.Seduce: To deceive.

John was writing to Christians so that they might not be made to sin.John was also writing to Christians so that they might not be made to believe a lie.

So what are John’s reasons? He says that he wrote the book to that Christians would:

1. Know and believe they have eternal life, and continue to believe in Him.2. Not be deceived.3. Sin not.4. Have their joy full.

LoveWe’ve been talking a lot about light. But let’s quickly also look at “love” in I John.

1 John 4:12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.Do you have to love to be saved? If you stop loving, does God stop dwelling in you?

1 John 3:10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother .IF you love not your brother, if you hate, do you lose salvation????

Page 25: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

Should this worry you?

1 John 2:10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.1 John 2:11 But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.“Love” and “hate” are discussed in the exact same way that “light” and “darkness” are.If you are born of God you love and cannot hate, cannot sin, cannot walk in darkness. If you are not born of God you hate, sin, walk in darkness, and cannot love.

1 John 4:7-8 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.Every one that loveth is of the Spirit-light, and is in the Spirit-light.If you love not (hate - walk in darkness) you have never seen or known God.The love of God is part of the package deal.

John 5:42 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.The unsaved man does not have the love of God in him.Only the Christian has the love of God in him.If you love not, if you hate, your brother, it does not mean that you lose salvation. It means that you never had it!!!

Romans 5:5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.The natural man thinks he can do it himself. The Spirit does this… in your heart, not in your flesh.

1 Peter 1:22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren , see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:Obedience: Repent and Believe and Call on Him. This is before the Spirit, before light and love. The Christian is made to love his brethren though the Spirit. I suppose that before perfect love came from the Spirit, all love was feigned…?!?!

1 John 3:14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.WE KNOW we have eternal life, why? This is not criteria for gaining salvation. Rather, it is proof of salvation, because it is the result of salvation.

1 John 5:1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.1 John 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. We know we have passed from death to life when we love the brethren.

Page 26: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

We know we love the brethren when we love God.It is not possible to be a child of God and not love His other children. God has not allowed it.Both love of the brethren, and eternal life itself, are a RESULT of loving God and keeping His commandments.

But it is the spirit of the Christian that loves, not the flesh. If you think this is carnal and not spiritual, then you are completely lost. The only way 1 John makes any sense is if love and hate, light and darkness, life and death, children of God and children of Satan, are mutually exclusive. You cannot both love and hate. You cannot abide in life and in death. If you ever hate, or don’t love, your brother even once! Then you are still ABIDING IN DEATH. There was no passing (no change).Your flesh does not always love. It envies and hates all the time. Your flesh cannot make you love the brethren. Your flesh cannot keep God’s commandments. Your flesh cannot help you pass from death to life.

1 Peter 1:22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently :The Christian is made to love his brethren though the Spirit. The question is whether or not you let that love OUT of your heart.

Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh. What is in your heart? Good or evil. Love or hate. Salt or no salt. Light or darkness. It is not what you do. It is what is IN YOU. It is what you ARE that defines what you DO, and not the other way around.

1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another : for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.1 John 4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another .You ought to bring it forth. You ought to let it out.Well if we do love automatically, then why are we warned to, commanded to?

1 John 3:17 But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?Don’t throw out the rest of the book because this strikes fear into the unlearned.Bowels in the OT are your guts, organs, insides. Your inward parts.Where does the Spirit dwell in the saved man? The inward parts. The rest of 1 John says that the Christian has the love of God and the love of the brethren within him, and it is proof of an assured eternal life. This verse is not saying that if you ever once don’t show compassion, that you LOSE what is in you. This verse is saying, if the love of God (or flesh) is in you, it SHOULD be coming out. If it is in there, don’t let your flesh shut it up.

Page 27: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

We always love the brethren, but we don’t always LET it out.

What is I John teaching?Understand what 1 John is teaching.

John was not ignorant of Paul’s teachings (Eph 2:8-9). John was not teaching that our works can gain or lose salvation.John was teaching Christians that:

1) They are saved by believing on Him (they become born of God, of God, in God, dwell in Him, abide in Him, God in them, etc.).

2) Because they have believed… They have the Spirit.3) Because they have the Spirit… They are in the light.4) They OUGHT to walk in the light. 5) Because they have the Spirit… They have the love of God in them.6) Because they have the love of God in them… They have the love of the brethren in them (i.e.

their bowels).7) They OUGHT to love the brethren with their flesh, as it is in them and is commanded of them. (1

John 4:11)8) They OUGHT to not be seduced (deceived) about these things.9) They OUGHT to not sin.

1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

John wrote that we might KNOW. How does John say that we KNOW we have eternal life?We know (we know Him) – if we keep His commandments. (2:3)We know (we are in Him) – if we keep His word (2:5)We know (we have passed from death unto life) – because we love the brethren (3:14)We know (He abideth in us) – by the Spirit which he hath given us (3:24)We know (we dwell in Him and He in us) – because He hath given us of His Spirit (4:13)We know (we love the children of God) – when we love God and keep His commandments (5:2)

We first keep His commandment (believe the record) to receive the Spirit. The Spirit is given by faith and grace in Christ alone… not by walking. (Gal 3:2)The Spirit makes us keep God’s commandments. The Spirit makes us love the brethren. If you have received the Spirit, you are saved. You meet all the descriptions and criteria of a saved man and you should KNOW.

1 John 3:24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

1 John 4:13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit .If you have His Spirit, you know you dwell in Him.If you have His Spirit, you know you have the light.

Page 28: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

If you have His Spirit, you know you have the love of the brethren. If you have His Spirit, you know you have eternal life. And vice versa.

1 John is proof that we have eternal life through Jesus Christ.(This is also why you can’t throw out the entire book and say it isn’t Church Age doctrine.)John affirms that the Spirit is proof of eternal life.John affirms that walking in the light is proof of eternal life.John affirms that love in our hearts is proof of eternal life.

That is what John is teaching. Now answer the question: Why was all this written?

All these things are written so that we may:1) Believe on Christ alone for salvation (1 John 5:10-12)2) Know that we are saved by what we have IN us (Spirit-light-love) 3) Know what we ARE, and also what we WERE (hold up a mirror on your flesh and spirit).

a. Understand the black and white difference between saved and unsaved.4) Not sin, but rather love the brethren and walk in the light. (1 John 2:1, 4:7, 4:11)

Summary1 John was written to teach Christians what they have, who they are, and what they should be doing.

1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.If a true Christian, you have eternal life and cannot sin.But your flesh can still sin…

1 John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not . And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:Based on everything else John says and the clear distinct lines that he draws, we understand that this “that ye sin not” is for the flesh of a saved man.1 John was written so that a saved man can understand what he was, who he is now, and that he OUGHT to do good from the Spirit and not fulfil the lusts of the flesh. Not because he will lose salvation if he doesn’t, but because that is what Jesus created him to do. He was CREATED UNTO GOOD WORKS.

1 John is written TO CHRISTIANS which have the Spirit of God, so that:1) Ye might KNOW ye have eternal life2) Ye sin not3) Ye love and walk as you were made to

Page 29: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

The natural man cannot see the difference between flesh and spirit1 John 3:10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. You are either a completely righteous man with no sinfulness or a completely sinful man with no righteousness. This is manifest, this is visible, this is evident in who commits sin and who doesn’t commit sin... You just need eyes to see it! We can clearly see who are of the devil and who are of God in the flesh. Every single one of us is NOT of God. How do we know? Because every single one of us commits sin. Unless you saw Jesus, the only perfect man in the flesh, you have only ever seen Satan’s children manifested. But the spiritual is also manifest to those that can look on the spirits, look on the hearts. This is how Satan’s and God’s children are manifested to each of them. Angels and devils can see this manifested too.

You are supposed to look at 1 John 1:8 and 1 John 3:9 and say.. this is totally contradictory! It makes absolutely no sense … Unless I divide flesh and spirit. You are supposed to look at 1 John 3:9 and say, How the heck can anyone meet that criteria?? It makes absolutely no sense … unless I divide the perfect spirit from the corrupt flesh.

That’s the whole point. The saved thing is 100% different than the lost. The good is completely perfect. The bad is completely corrupt. The good has no bad in it at all. The bad has no good in it at all. Example: Jesus gives “trees”. I can’t think of a single perfectly fitting analogy for our eyes and minds. Why?There is not a lick of perfection in this world. That’s why why don’t understand this with our fleshly mind.

1 John was written to make us understand. To make MANIFEST and VISIBLE and EVIDENT the difference between the saved and the lost. But flesh can’t see this, so the natural man doesn’t understand 1 John.

The natural man wrongly does not divide the flesh from the spirit.2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh ; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit .

1 Corinthians 15:44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body , and there is a spiritual body .

John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Page 30: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

It is the spirit that works good and walks in truth, light, love, Spirit.

More Bible divisions of flesh and spirit:Matt 26:41, Mar 14:38, Rom 8:1, 8:4-5, 8:9, 1Cor 2:14, 5:5, 15:44-46, Gal 3:3, 4:29, 5:16-17, 6:8, Php 3:3, 1Pet 3:18, 4:6

Division of flesh and Spirit, saved and unsaved, in 1 JohnBelow is a division of the book of I John with respest to the flesh and spirit, the saved and unsaved, before salvation and after salvation. You will see that unless you take the book (and really the Word of God) as a whole and DIVIDE the totally depraved flesh from the totally pure spirit, you will make a mess of the gospel of Christ.

In this table…I am not saying that the unsaved man cannot tell that one column is good and one is bad.I’m not even saying that the unsaved man couldn’t build a similar table from 1 John.I’m saying that the unsaved man does not understand that these columns are mutually exclusive. The unsaved man thinks he can be some in the right some in the left. Or sometimes in the right and sometimes in the left. This makes no sense! 1 John would make absolutely NO SENSE! The gospel of Jesus Christ would make absolutely NO SENSE.The columns cannot be named, “the man doing good things” and “the man failing to do good things”.The columns cannot be named, “the man at the foot of the cross” and “the man not at the foot of the cross”.The columns cannot be named, “the man who stays humble” and “the man who does not stay humble”.This would be the most ridiculous, contradictory, back and forth, confusing, and soul-damning gospel. It would be the law all over again, but much more confusing. The Bible does not describe a war of the flesh with itself. The Bible describes a war of the flesh with the spirit.Remember that it is the spirit that quickens, and the flesh PROFITS NOTHING.You will see that these columns are mutully exclusive.

More Issues with Not Dividing Flesh from SpiritEat the Body and Drink the Blood of ChristJohn 6:56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.John 6:60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it?John 6:61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

What has man done with this? Not divided it. IGNORED Jesus’ words entirely. They think they need to physically eat and drink. So they hold a Catholic mass everyday.

Baptism1 Peter 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:Men continue to teach and preach that you must be baptized to be saved. That’s true… Spiritually.

Mark 1:8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.Divide flesh from Spirit, or fall into heresy.

Free From SinRomans 6:7 For he that is dead is freed from sin. When I die I will no longer be a sinner, right?

Better divide! This is spiritual. I don’t believe it will be true of the flesh. Even if it were:

Page 35: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

Ezekiel 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.The problem is even after your FLESH dies, your SOUL is still alive. It has sinned and must also die.

Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. There is a BIG difference between dying IN sins, and dying TO sins. He that is dead TO sin and TO the law is free from sin. You have to die TO it, not IN it.Flesh is going to die IN sins. The spirit-soul has in Christ died TO sins; and is now free from sin.

The answer is in the same passage.Romans 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?Romans 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.Romans 6:5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:Romans 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.Romans 6:7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.Romans 6:8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:Romans 6:22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. This is talking about your old man - the sinful fleshly man.You better be dead !!NOW!! and be born again in the Spirit. If you die IN sins later, you are not free from sin.

Good worksRomans 3:12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

3 John 1:11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God : but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.How is this not a contradiction? It is a contradiction, unless you divide the spiritual, from the natural. Unless you divide the son of God, from the sons of men. Unless you divide the old man before salvation, from a new man after salvation. If you have not been born OF GOD, in the Spirit, you have not and cannot “do good”.

Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them .You cannot do good works, you cannot do righteousness (you are free from it) until you are IN Christ.Once you are made ABLE to do good works, then you SHOULD walk in them. But doing so before faith alone, is impossible.

CondemnationJohn 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.vs.1 Timothy 3:6-7 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil. 7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

Let me assure you, this does not say that you will be condemned of God. It says you will be condemned (accused and found guilty) of Satan. A Christian’s flesh can be condemned, snared, and take captive of Satan. But a Christian’s spirit cannot be.

1 Corinthians 11:32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

James 5:12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation. You do wrong in the flesh, and Satan will condemn you.But nothing will condemn the spirit of the Christian.

Do I have to stay humble? You must humble yourself to gain salvation. This is true.James 4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

Should you stay humble? Absolutely. Is it required for salvation? Not in the Bible. Maybe by false prophets. What does the Bible say about the “humble” in the NT?

Matthew 18:4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.Matthew 23:12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.1 Peter 5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

Just like Jesus taught: The first shall be last. The last shall be first. If any will be the chiefest, let him be servant of all.

Page 37: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

You need to humble yourself After salvation, humility is for reward.God will reward you and exalt you for your humility.Staying humble is not required to keep salvation.

Do I have to “stay at the foot of the cross”?“Stay at the foot of the cross” is not a Biblical phrase. “At the foot of the cross” is not a Biblical phrase. These are man-made phrases.

How many people were at the literal foot of the cross during Jesus’ crucifixion? Did that make those thatwere not there no longer disciples? We are not required by Scripture to remain, or ever approach, “the foot of the cross”.

Ephesians 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. Not made nigh by your works. Not made nigh by your humility. Not made nigh by your “walking”.Not even made nigh by your own faith.

1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:You don’t bring yourself to God, and you don’t stay there by your own power.

I looked at “stay” in the NT. Nothing there.Maybe not “stay” but maybe “keep” myself there?

1 Peter 1:5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. You cannot keep yourself saved. Only God has that power.

Your only job is to “keep” the Word.1 John 2:5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.1 John 3:24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us. If you keep His word, you have the Spirit, which makes you keep all of His commandments. It may seem circular, but it begins with keeping His word.

Luke 8:15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it , and bring forth fruit with patience.

Page 38: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

When you receive the word (the gospel of Jesus Christ), you need to keep it. Not reject it, not fall away from it.That is YOUR part. That is what YOU need to do.

Hebrews 10:38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.Hebrews 10:39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul. Its not about your works. Its only about your faith in Jesus Christ.

Can a Christian fall away from the cross? What about “falling away” from the cross? No such thing in scripture. There IS “fall”, and “fall away”.

Proverbs 24:16 For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief. The unrighteous (the unsaved) falls once.. for good. The righteous falls many times.. and rises again. “Falling” is not equal to losing salvation.

Psalms 37:23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.Psalms 37:24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.A good man falling is very different from an evil man falling.A Christian may mess up and serve his flesh many times. But if you are a good man, in His hand, you cannot fall out, and nothing can pluck you out.(By now you should know that a “good man” is not a natural man that simply does more good things than bad things.)

Psalms 36:12 There are the workers of iniquity fallen: they are cast down, and shall not be able to rise.

Psalms 9:3 When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at thy presence. When an ENEMY turns back from the Lord (rejects the record and calls God a liar) they fall.. AND PERISH.Not friends, not sons, but enemies.Divide sons from enemies, saved from lost, Spirit from flesh.

Why do the wicked fall just once? Because they “fall away”. Only 2 mentions in the Bible.Hebrews 6:4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,Hebrews 6:5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,Hebrews 6:6 If they shall fall away , to renew them again unto repentance ; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

Page 39: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

This is a passage that is used to taught one can lose his salvation.I believe wholeheartedly, that it is not actually teaching that. This was written to Jews, who saw Jesus’s miracles, heard His words, and rejected Him.If you think it means a Christian can lose his salvation, if he “falls”, then how could you ever be saved? But it does demonstrate that “falling away” happens ONCE.This man who “falls away” is not a Christian. This is an unsaved man that “falls away”, or is “offended” from the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Luke 8:13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away. This is the ONLY other “fall away” in the Bible. If you “fall away”, you fall once. You fall from salvation. You fall from faith. You fall from believing Jesus Christ. What does it mean to “fall away”?

Mark 4:16 And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;Mark 4:17 And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or

persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended .

Mark 14:27 And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered. To be “offended” is to be “scattered” away from Christ, the Word.

Here are those people on the rock:John 6:56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.John 6:60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it?John 6:61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.John 6:64 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.John 6:66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.John 6:67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?Oh, for a while they believed. But it was in vain. When the truth of the gospel came, they did not believe. They were “offended”. They “fell away”.“Fall away” can only happen before salvation. Not after.A man who has kept the word and brought forth fruit (i.e. a Christian, with the Spirit) cannot “fall away”.

Page 40: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

Can a Christian not stay in contact with salvation, God’s grace?Absolutely not!Galatians 5:4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace. The only way to fall from grace is to try to be justified by anyone other than Christ (yourself included) or justified by anything other than His blood (your works or humility included). This is “falling away”. This is being offended.

Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:Romans 5:2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.A Christian is IN grace.

Romans 5:17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)Grace is not something you approach to and cling tightly to.Grace is given to you. And if it is given to you, it is not taken away, because the Spirit in our hearts is not taken away.

A Christian is in grace, and grace is in a Christian. How could he not stay in contact with God’s grace?

Just like a Christian is “in Christ” and Christ is in him.

1 Corinthians 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

Colossians 1:27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

Galatians 4:6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. How can a Christian not stay in contact with God’s grace, when God is in his heart?

John 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. This is NEVER said in the OT, God has made a home within the Christian.Do you think he moves out and then moves back in? It is His home, and then it is not His home? There is no flip flopping between being of God and of Satan.

Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.If you’ve received Christ, received grace, and cannot lose it. Cannot stop being in contact with it.

Page 41: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

Back-upColossians 1:21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciledColossians 1:22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:Colossians 1:23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister; You will surely point to this and claim it is required for salvation… But it is NOT.

A Christian may be “blamed”, and lose rewards and honour, but you will not be condemned. A christian ought to be grounded and settled. If not, he will fall. But not “fall away”. A Christian cannot lose what is in him – Christ, His word, His righteousness, His faith.

Know God1 John 4:7-8 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

LoveLove God, Love the brethren.

1 John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

1 John 5:1-2 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.Because you love God, you love the brethren. If you are born of God (have obeyed His commandments) you DO keep the law.

1 John 2:29 If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.Because Jesus is righteous, and we are made the righteousness of Him, we only do righteousness. And we are not born of Him because we were righteous. We are righteous and can do righteousness IF AND ONLY IF we were born of Him.It is a SPIRITUAL understanding.

1 John 4:7-8 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

Page 42: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

1 John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

1 John 5:18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.He that is begotten of God cannot lose himself.

Romans 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Why are we baptized into Christ’s death?Romans 6:7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.So that we, through Him, die unto sin. Because we are bound under the law of sin and death until we die.

Romans 6:17-18 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. 18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

Romans 6:20-22 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. 21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. 22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

Romans 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Romans 8:1-2 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

Romans 8:3-4 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: 4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. You can try to “walk in the light” all you want. But your flesh cannot keep the law, and the law cannot make you perfect. Only Christ can.If Christ

What does all that mean? Well, here is a huge key to understanding passages like 1 John 1:8 with a spiritual mind:Galatians 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Those that have received the gift of God’s righteousness through faith in Jesus Christ alone, ceasing from doing and trusting in their own works, they have received the Spirit of God, and are “in the Spirit”, not

Page 43: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

“in the flesh”. So if we live in the Spirit (or live “in the light”), we should also walk in the spirit (or “walk in the light”). We who are after, and live in the Spirit (Christ-the life-the light), and are commanded to walk in the Spirit (Christ-the light-the life).

Galatians 5:16-18 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. 18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.Now of course, we still have sinful flesh warring against the Spirit.Trying to walk in the light does not give salvation. Salvation makes you to walk in the light. When you are “in the flesh”, and “under the law” and “under sin”, you were “free from righteousness”. You can not walk in the light (do righteous/good works) no matter how hard you try.

Good works are only possible AFTER salvation.

Good works are good and profitable unto men.

Romans 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

Romans 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

Romans 8:8-9 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you . Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.If you are in the flesh, you are not in Christ. You cannot please God because you cannot keep His law.

Romans 8:33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.Cannot sin, and cannot be charged with sin. Cannot be charged with breaking the law because he/she is not under it.

Galatians 4:29 But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.As Jesus said… Ye must be born again; of the Spirit.

Philippians 3:3 For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.

John 5:42 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.

Romans 5:5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

Page 44: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

Romans 8:39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. The only way to be in the love of God (capable of loving God and your neighbor/brother) is to be “in Christ”.

Ephesians 5:1-3 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; 2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. 3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; Not talking about gaining salvation through walking in love. This is saying that we (who can walk in love) should do just that, since it becomes what we are… saints who are IN the love of God.

Ephesians 4:1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,Ephesians 4:17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,This passage also explains the 1 John.We are talking about walking – working – doing – your conversation. All of this is AFTER salvation.Paul and John are encouraging, and admonishing (warning) Christians who have been saved by grace alone to not fashion themselves and their “conversation” after what they used to be; lost Gentiles living according to the flesh.Lost Gentiles cannot just up and begin to walk in the light. They are in the night, not in the light.Ephesians 4:18 Having the understanding darkened , being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart :This is all about who? Those that do not and cannot walk in the light, those that are separated from the light/light of God (John 1). You cannot walk in the light unless you can see the light and come to be in the light. The lost do not see.

Matthew 15:15-20 Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable. 16 And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding? 17 Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught? 18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: 20 These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.Its not what you do with your flesh, its what is in your heart. That’s what you are.It may be that we (Christians) have a fleshly mind and a spiritual mind too.

Page 45: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

John 8:34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

Good Works

Romans 3:12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.Good works are NOT POSSIBLE before salvation. Righteousness is not possible before salvation. These are only possible by Jesus Christ, after faith.Remember, in bondage under the law, but free from righteousness. Free from good works.

ALSO THE APOSTLES WROTE TO THE GENTILE DISCIPLES ONLY 3 THINGS TO TEACH. NONE OF THEM WAS “STAY HUMBLE AND AT THE FOOT OF THE CROSS”.It was not :

be sure to keep believing, because if you stop, you will lose your salvation. Be sure not to blaspheme Be sure not to murder Be sure not to

So how could this be required for salvation?

Acts 15:24 Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:

The book of Galatians was written for this singular purpose. The Galatians were taught a false gospel, after Paul had taught them Biblical salvation and eternal security.Galatians 3:1-3 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? 2 This only would I learn of

Page 46: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? 3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? If you believe you have to obey the law, or “walk in the light”, or “live like Jesus”, in order to be saved, then somebody has bewitched you.Your flesh cannot not make anything perfect. The Spirit and the blood of Jesus Christ make things perfect. So then, a fair question is, if works do not save an individual, and works do not keep saved an individual, then why do good works?

Titus 3:8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.

Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Philippians 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

1 Timothy 5:24-25 Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after. 25 Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.Cannot hide what is the spiritual thing to the spiritual eye.God sees the inside of the cup. He sees the fruit of the tree.

Saved By Grace aloneRomans 11:6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work. You can’t have it both ways. You are saved by grace, or by works. What saves you? God’s grace, or your works?

Cannot Sin – Eternal Security1 Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

Romans 6:2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?Romans 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?Romans 6:7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.

Page 47: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

Romans 6:9-11 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. 10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. 11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

1 Peter 4:1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin ;

Hebrews 10:10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Hebrews 10:14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.A Christian does not have to keep cleansing new sins to keep his salvation.A Christian may have to cleanse his flesh, but his spirit cannot sin and needs no more santification. There is no perfected for ever, if the soul-the conscience can be corrupted in the future.

Jude 1:1 Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:

Galatians 5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

Colossians 2:11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:The body of flesh, with its sins are put off at salvation.

1 John 5:18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

In ChristIn Him is no darkness. He is the light. So if we are in Christ, we are “in the light”.

Free from the Law (Sin)John 8:34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

Page 48: …  · Web viewFlesh Vs. Spirit. Understanding the difference with respect to Salvation. This is in response to teachings that we must “walk in the light” and “remain humble

Romans 6:17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.Romans 6:18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.Romans 6:19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.Romans 6:20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.

Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. If one is made free from the law of sin, how can he sin? He can no longer transgress and break the law.

Romans 7:4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

Romans 4:6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,Romans 4:7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.Romans 4:8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin .

1 Peter 4:1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;Christ didn’t just suffer to remove sins.. He died.We have to be dead to sins, dead to the flesh.

Romans 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

1 Corinthians 6:9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God?
