Hi, I am Abhishek Mehta and I am currently studying paramedical science at ECU and I am running to be the 2019 ECU Student Guild President with the Inspire team. As a current General Senator I am proud to say INSPIRE is a broad team with domestic and internationals students working together. INSPIRE has campus representatives from Joondalup, Mt Lawley and Bunbury making INSPIRE truly a ticket that wants strong campus culture for all. Most importantly INSPIRE’s top priority is your education. This year INSPIRE senators lobbied hard to have the Academics Department budget increased $83,000. We will lobby ECU to provide a grammar based software like grammarly to students to improve the standard of your assignments. As a General Senator I helped organise the Chinese New Year Festival and other events with the Equity and Diversity Department. I listened to what students wanted and helped organise the successful Cricket Day which means I am committed to supporting all sporting groups on campus, including Jets. I helped broadened the Cultural Food Festival by getting amongst as a dancer. I have attended all the O’days and helped to promote the guild to the student population. I have the experience and capability to help organise your campus favourite events like the Guild Ball, Halloween Party, and more. I take student engagement and campus culture seriously. INSPIRE is committed to making sure your club on campus is supported by having easy affiliation process’s, promotion of club spaces on campuses and continued promotion on the Guild website. I helped organise the Guild Cricket days, because I have a passion for sports. I am committed to supporting Jets and promote social sports. We are dedicated to forming a Mt Lawley Social Club, to get you socialising with other students at Mt Lawley. We will run weekly free soup days on all campuses so you see your SSAF going back to you. I have continued to increase international student participation by helping to form the Desi/Sub Continental Club ECU. I am committed to supporting more cultural clubs on campus so new students can have instant support networks. I have advocated against unfair changes to the constitution which would have prevented international students running for senior positions in the Guild. I promise to expand the My International Student Experience to visit some Perth’s most popular tourist sites. I know the issues that face you on campus. I promise to look after the wellbeing of Guild Students and Guild staff. I am proud to run with student whose focus is policies not politics. 1.3 Ethan FURLONG Lift ECU

My name is Ethan Furlong and I’m studying Exercise and Sports Science and I am running to be your next student guild president. I have been involved in advocating for student for the past few years in my role as Queer Officer and as part of the university’s Respect. Now. Always. working group as well as being involved with many other clubs and guild activities. This experience has helped me to understand what students need and want from their guild and I am committed to making sure students come first at ECU. As part of an amazing LIFT team, full of dedicated and capable

students, I will deliver a strong and inclusive guild that fights for student rights, delivers the best services for students and creates a great campus culture for everyone. I firmly believe that the primary goal of university should be to deliver a great education to its students. The LIFT team and I are committed to holding the university accountable for the delivery of quality education and not putting profits before students. If elected, we will stand against any money-making schemes by the university, such as introducing compulsory online only degrees or moving to a trimester system, which lower the standard of teaching and deliver worse outcomes for students. Education should be a priority and it should be accessible to everyone. We will continue to work with the National Union of Students on national issues such as fighting deregulation of university fees (which could see degrees spike to $100,000), opposing the reduction of the HELP repayment threshold and speaking out about massive government cuts to the higher education sector. Education should be a priority and it should be accessible to everyone. The LIFT team is dedicated to making the guild more visible and accessible for all students across all three campuses and online. We will do this by introducing a guild app, which will connect students and the guild seamlessly so that all the guild’s services are at the tips of your fingers. This app will also keep students up to date with all the events that the guild runs. Campus culture is an important part of life at ECU. We have a broad range of students from a range of backgrounds with different interests. Guild clubs contribute to campus life by providing students a way to connect with others like them. We will make it easier for clubs to be formed, operate and run activities for students by streamlining our procedures for clubs. By reducing the red tape for clubs and providing them with the right framework, they can get on with what’s important – providing for students. The lift team is a full of unique individuals working collectively to improve all aspects of campus life. In 2018 we delivered a strong guild that put students first. 2 GENERAL SECRETARY

2.1 Greg WARREN Lift ECU

Hey ECU, you’ve probably seen me around the Guild office doing paperwork and helping with student inquiries. That’s me being the Guild’s current General Secretary. I am a mature-aged third year Finance & Law student with approximately a decade’s experience in IT and retail management. I have been the President (and Founder) of the Finance & Accounting Society for two years, have represented ECU in the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Research Challenge, and am currently the student representative on the School of Business & Law’s Curriculum, Teaching & Learning Committee (CTLC). It’s been a very busy year, and myself and the Lift team got a lot done. Last year I promised and we delivered: Making it easier for clubs to affiliate with the Guild; Have developed and are submitting a tender for a licensed Guild owned and operated café on the Joondalup campus starting next semester, with the long-term goal of providing financial security to the Guild; Successfully assisted the creation of new clubs for students, raising the number from 38 to 52 affiliates in this year, with new clubs on all campuses; Lobbied the University to get transcript recognised volunteering options available for students to make them more employable, and begun the process of acquiring the software and systems needed to implement these programs; Successfully lobbied the University to conduct a study into the provision of childcare facilities for students, and look into providing services for students not currently adequately covered for childcare as they study; Introduced many reforms aimed at improving the transparency, accountability, and procedural fairness of the Guild, with over 20 new or amended policies and changes to the Constitution, along with new templates, work flows, and procedures (boring but important); Created processes for student reps, clubs, and collectives to provide feedback to the Senate on problems and issues students have. In 2019, Lift will: Continue seeking and developing commercial operations for the Guild, to make the Guild more independent; Expand the food options available on campus, including more variety and healthier options; Provide clubs with more training and administration resources to make running them easier; Provide more resources for clubs such as cloud storage for club documents, email addresses, office space for club administration, etc. Finish establishing a transcript recognised volunteering program for students; Continue to advocate for student rights while the University brings in cost cutting measures, such as, “Technology Enhanced Learning” to make sure these measures improve student learning outcomes; Continue creating Policies and Procedures which will continue to improve the standards of service of the Guild, the transparency and accountability of the Senate and Guild staff, and to continuously improve the quality of our service to Members; and Implement a Guild app with functionality built in for clubs so buying tickets to Guild or club events is easy, allowing clubs to keep in contact with their members, run their own elections, sell merchandise, book Guild resources, run events, and more: all over your phone. 2.2 Sarah CAVANOUGH Inspire ECU

Having served as the Vice-President (VP) Academic in the current 2018 Senate, I have been successful in negotiating a record $80,000 budget for the academic department. This has enabled me to fully support academic club initiatives and support the Guild’s new and existing academic societies in growing their membership numbers and engagement with the student population. It was my absolute pleasure to witness the recognition of many of the academic societies at the Vice-Chancellors Student Advisory Forum earlier this Semester. I regard accountability and elected official conduct seriously. As the Guild is a statutory organization responsible for the management of student funds (SSAF), myself and INSPIRE team will add the duties of an ECU Student Guild Public Interest Disclosure Officer, to an existing Operational role, in keeping with the guidelines set by the Public Sector Commission of Western Australia. This will bring the Guild into line with other Western Australian public sector organizations. Additionally, as INSPIRE’s General Secretary I will set all Senate meeting dates and complete all Senate meeting minutes as per the Standing Orders. I will provide weekly and monthly updates and to-do lists to the Senate to enable better planning, communication, tasking and resources management for specific events. I fervently believe in equal opportunity employment principles and will ensure that the Guild publicly advertises any vacant staff, Senate or committee representative positions to promote fair hiring practices and grow the talent pool of our people. It is my view that happy workplaces are productive workplaces and I will also assist in drafting consitituional changes to clarify the separation of responsibilites between the Senate and Operational Staff to prevent conflicts in the future. I will work with the CEO and HR Coordinator to incorporate State and Federal legislative training modules into mandatory Senator training to ensure all Senators are aware of their responsibilities as public officers of a statutory body. If elected as General Secretary, I am committed to getting back to basics and doing what counts with a focus on actually communicating with the ECU Student Body. For example, minutes of all meetings of YOUR Senate will be posted on your Guild website as soon as they have been approved so you, the Members, can easily review the operations of your Senate. As General Secretary I will also ensure an automated reply and escalation system is implemented so all enquiries are addressed in a timely manner. This, in addition to further utilities and improvements to the Guilds web and social media infrastructure, will ensure a comprehensive communications platform for all to use. A vote for me as your 2019 General Secretary is a vote for my 100% commitment for a Senate that is A-Political, a Senate that is focused on advocating for the academic needs of ALL ECU Students first and foremost, and a Senate that will not shy away from holding the University to account. 3 VICE PRESIDENT ACADEMIC

3.1 Krystal KOTKIS Lift ECU

I want to be your Vice President Academic. I am Krystal Kotkis, I complete my Bachelor of Health Science (Nutrition Bioscience) this year, starting my Master of Nutrition and Dietetics next year. If you need something done, give it to a busy person. That's me. While completing my BHSc fulltime I work as a Food Trainer for Jamie’s Ministry of Food, co-founder and current President of ECU Nutrition Hub, active member of Sorrento SLSC, wife and fur-mum. My gap-decade I worked in business administration and contract management. As VPA I will advocate for evidence-based continual improvement of the learning and teaching environment. As a STEM student I insist on ‘show me the data’ when making decisions. I will work closely with VPE Sabrina to support LAP. I will represent every campus, 3 days a week at Joondalup, 2 days a week at Mt Lawley and at least 2 days each semester at Bunbury, supporting President Ethan to hold the University accountable for student-focused learning. I will advocate for more interdisciplinary interaction. I will work with VPS Fraser to have more clubs hosting more activities for you, including providing for various dietary preferences. Working with General-Secretary Greg we will continue to streamline the current club funding and approval processes, making it easier to host activities and events all year round with more training for club committee members. 3.2 Seema BEHRAMI Inspire ECU

I am studying a Bachelor of Paramedical Sciences and I volunteer with the St. John ambulance services to give back to my community. I am looking forward to stepping up into student leadership roles where I can put myself forward to my fellow students. I am running to be your 2019 Vice-President Academic because I believe that I can assist in building the academic portfolio and increase its benefit to Guild members. My core priority is maximizing students’ study and learning experiences by growing the academic budget from the current level of $80,000 while maintaining funding for academic societies. The introduction of ‘technology enhanced learning’ (TEL) by the university threatens to encroach on face-to-face learning options for students and while technological support systems can be beneficial, I don’t agree that students select ‘on-campus’ classes to learn from a computer. I do believe that it is ideal that current lectures be recorded for students to access for review, but I am aware that some courses have online lectures that are outdated and students have been complaining about this for some time. Similarly, forced subscriptions and textbook purchases that are required to complete unit assessments have been a great source of frustration for students. If elected, I will actively campaign against this practice at the Vice-Chancellor’s Student Advisory Forum. In more broad terms, I would lobby the university to provide a grammar based subscription service for students similar to those provided at other WA universities. VOTE [1] INSPIRE!

4 VICE PRESIDENT EQUITY & DIVERSITY

4.1 Sabrina JOHNSTON Lift ECU

I am currently the Co-President of ECU Women’s community and a Psychology/Counselling student. This year I have implemented the NowForce Safety App in course induction orientations and maintained a positive relationship with the ECU Security and Parking department in accordance with the Respect. Now. Always sexual assault campaign. Additionally, Women’s Community have been collaborative with academic/equity clubs and value community involvement. As VP Equity and Diversity, I have no intention to “make” a difference in people’s lives. I am not here to “do” anything to anyone. By doing the above, those who have been and still are marginalised by our society will remain as victims; perceived as those who are unable to fend for themselves. I want to “be” with the student body by celebrating every student’s unique background and abilities. This will be achieved by enforcing cross-collaboration between all equity clubs to increase the number of events which allow students to enjoy the multiple parts of their identity, not just one. I want to create a culture of equity through diversity that empowers students to take pride in who they are and how they have come to be. 4.2 Faizan AKRAM Inspire ECU

My name is Muhammad Faizan Akram. I am running for the 2019 Vice President of Equity & Diversity with the INSPIRE team. This year I served as a General Senator in the Guild and it has given me a great appreciation for helping and serving my fellow students. My utmost priority is to support Collectives and ECU students' on all campuses. This

year I helped the current Vice President of Equity & Diversity run the Chinese New Year Festival and Multicultural food festival. I am committed to maintaining these events. Also standing up for international students this year has developed a passion for advocacy, I want to expand that passion to everyone. I will advocate for ECU to be a welcoming environment for every student no matter their race or gender. If elected as the Vice President of Equity & Diversity I will work to introduce:-Run a stress less week on all campuses and bring puppies on campus leading up to exams. -Run Yoga days for relaxation. -Fund self-defence classes for women. -Support, maintain, & fight to expand Equity Spaces at all three campuses. -Run Weekly Free Soup Days for all campuses during winter. Being a part of the INPSIRE team has given me the opportunity to help and students from diverse backgrounds and help them access services the Guild. 5 VICE PRESIDENT SOCIAL ACTIVITY

5.1 Fraser WADDELL Lift ECU

My name is Fraser Waddell, a commerce student majoring in accounting and marketing, and I want to be your next Vice-President for Social Activity. In the last 2 years I have been an active member of campus life across multiple clubs, most significantly as treasurer of the ECU Queer Collective. 2018 has been a massive year for the ECU Queer Collective and I have been right behind some of our most successful events. Too often I hear students complain that there aren’t enough regular activities happening on campus. My goal is to change this and make ECU the most fun and dynamic university in WA. As your 2019 Vice President - Social Activity I will: - Continue Lift ECU’s policy to have a variety of events, including non-alcoholic, so that everyone can enjoy guild events - Run social sporting tournaments such as cricket, volleyball, football (if you call it soccer you can fight me), AFL - Continue to make it easier for social clubs to access funding - Run regular de-stress activities for students such as: bubble soccer, giant board games, sumo wrestling - Bring back the quiz nights and pool competitions. I will be someone who runs the events that students want to see on campus. You will be able to come to me with something you want to do and I will make sure that it can happen. 5.2 Alfred KOECH Inspire ECU

My name is Alfred Koech currently studying a Bachelor of Social science. I am running to be your 2019 ECU Guild Vice President Social Activity. I am the ECU athletics captain and the vice president of Kenyan Community of WA and have received the ECU Champions Award. In all these positions I've held before, I've served diligently and with the utmost integrity. Over time I've had enough experience and it is for this reason that I'm running to be your Vice President Social Activity. 6 POSTGRADUATE OFFICER

6.1 Georgios MAVROPALIAS Lift ECU

I am a PhD candidate in the school of Medical and Health Sciences. Being in my third year, I have large experience in the journey of research students in all of its phases. I have worked with a lot of PhD and Master’s students, and in many occasions we discussed about difficulties they are facing. I know the areas ECU is lacking in terms of postgraduate (PG) student satisfaction and I am very motivated to work towards addressing them. I will endeavor to: - Represent Honors, Master’s and PhD students. By listening to their feedback, and acting as a bridge of communication between them and the decision making bodies. - Establish regular PG events. In ECU Joondalup and Mount Lawley, with free food/drinks, many opportunities of inter-school networking, and being a pleasant yet constructive break from work. - Establish casual, informal workshops/presentations which will be conducted among PG students. Anyone will be free to present data from pilots, completed studies, literature review findings, methodology of measurements or statistics, or simply to discuss interesting new papers. Presenters can receive peer feedback and improve their presentation skills. These workshops will foster collaboration between PG students. - Establish a PG culture at ECU. By creating a per-school PG Facebook group for peer-help and the sharing of helpful information (such as new journal articles). 6.2 Dago OM Inspire ECU

Hi all I am Dago Om and I am pursing a Masters in Accounting. I am seeking your support for the position of Postgraduate Officer within the 2019 ECU Student Guild. I want to support all postgrad students through regular coffee meet ups and get to know you. I see the position of Postgraduate Officer as an excellent way to add to the Inspire team that are involved in representing all ECU students. I understand research students and postgraduate students by course work face very different and unique problems on campus. As someone who has seen firsthand the effects of a stressful study workload I am committed to being your voice. As your postgrad officer I would establish more coffee and networking social events to connect postgrad students and to develop and help foster support networks on campus. I understand the lack of representation research students have offered to them. That is why as your Postgrad officer I am committed to engaging and meeting you to understand some of the unique problems faced by postgrad students. 7 INTERNATIONAL OFFICER

7.1 Sharath VIJAYANANDA Lift ECU

Remember when you first arrived on campus? Surrounded by a sea of unfamiliar faces, some welcoming and friendly, some perhaps not so much. That's a feeling most of you would be familiar with. Especially if you've moved away from home, to a new city/country full of such faces. Finding a good support network, mental-health, self-care, personal

and/or cultural identity, financial stability, work-life balance, etc. are some of the aspects of life that we kinda struggle to figure out. I'm Sharath Vijayananda, and that's something I'm learning through experience. I’ve been actively involved with organisations and student clubs on/off campus. Whether it is as a mentor at AIME, a tutor at Teach Learn Grow, or through executive roles in Enactus, IEEE, EWB, Wellbeing Community, etc my contribution has always been towards humanitarian causes I deeply care about. This passion has enabled me to not only facilitate national conferences, workshops for school kids, but also organise casual events such as free bbq, puppies+kittens on campus. As International Officer at the Guild, I want to provide: Positive campus life through increased safe-spaces & meaningful social engagement, Cultural awareness workshops on campus International movie/music/sports/food/career festivals, Student Connect in-house visa assistance Zoo trips, AFL and other experiences, Increased student exchange programs Financial aid/Scholarships for study tours, University Wifi in the Village. Hello, my name is Vimal Khetiya, and I am studying a bachelors in Nursing. I am running to be your 2019 ECU Student Guild International officer. As a student representative of the Kenyan Community of WA I am passionate about international Students on campus. As your International Officer I will attend all International Student Orientation Days to welcome and be inclusive for International students. My main policy priorities are: -Expand the My International Day into the My International Weekend! A weekend full of visiting some Perth’s iconic tourist sites, and experiencing Aussie culture. -Celebrating International events and festivals to make international students feel at home. -Work with food vendors to expand cuisine and halal options on campus like African, Indian, Chinese and many other food options. -Expanding the food festival into a multicultural club week! -Set up an International student seminar to raise issues facing international students on campus. -Lastly fight for a coffee vending machine in the library so that students could save time going out to but from fast food restaurants. 8 ENVIRONMENTAL OFFICER

8.1 Jessica DARROCH Lift ECU

Hey fellow earthlings, I’m running for environmental officer with Lift for the ECU student guild this year. I’m writing this as I sit by the lake and bask in the cuteness of the campus quackers. Aside from ducks, I care about the rest of the environment too. But I’m definitely more emotionally invested in the ducks on campus than I am in my degrees. I’m studying law and psychology, and am interested in becoming an environmental lawyer (but I don’t intend to become Marshall on How I Met Your Mother). Aside from hassling my family members and house mates on a daily basis on how to recycle properly, I like to keep on top of environmental developments in science and technology. I dedicate my green blog posts to educating people on things like renewable energy. If you vote for me, I will: Fight for an increase in renewable energy at the university, Push for divestment in fossil fuels, Continue to provide free reusable coffee cups to students, Limit the bottled water available for sale on campus, Have no bottled water for sale at the guild café when it opens, Get more water bottle refill stations on the campuses, Limit the disposable cutlery available at the cafes on campus, Have mugs available at all the cafes on the campuses so that takeaway coffee isn’t the only option, Collaborate with the clubs and equity collectives to eliminate single use plastic at their events. 8.2 Elsa CHEW Inspire ECU

I am completing a Bachelor of Biomedical Science here at ECU and will be progressing into a Masters of Assisted Reproductive Technology in 2019. As the President of ECU Malaysia for the past two years, I have had the opportunity to build an inclusive, fun community spirit among members. I have been directly involved in the planning of events such as Chinese New Year Festival, ECU Multicultural Festival and Diwali Day, the 3 major celebrations of this year. My Leadership experience has enabled me to develop organizational and recourse management skills, and I look forward to applying these skills as a Guild Senator in 2019. I’m a green thumb by nature and am committed to nurturing and protecting the environment. My studies have taught me that the health of humans and the environment are intrinsically linked. If elected as the Guild’s environmental officer in 2019, I will advocate for healthy and sustainability initiatives on campus, and increasing the uptake of these within the student population: ~Working with other university stakeholders to promote the use of crockery and bio-degradable take-away containers for coffee and food items. ~Increase the supply of Guild ‘keep cups’ to members to reduce reliance on take-away cups. ~Lobby for more kitchenette facilities on campus so students can clean re-usable coffee cups and food containers. ~Run a ‘Cleanup Australia Day’ event in 2019. ~Run composting workshops for students in 2019. ~Install battery and medicines disposal units. ~Lobby the university for more water stations to be installed on campus.

9 SOUTHWEST OFFICER

9.1 Ellen MAYHEW Inspire ECU

Hey I’m Ellen Mayhew and I am a stage 4 nursing student. I have much enjoyed my full-time study here in the South West as it is my home. Yes I’m young but I have an old soul, I bring fresh eyes and new inspiration to our ECU Student Guild South West team. I am going for S/W Officer because I believe in more than just advocating for students but also working alongside to ensure we reach the expected goal. I want to see our campus thrive in health and wellness so I am available to listen and work. I see that we are failing to reach the upheld relationships with our wider community, I want to increase our events to reach everyone. Things I would advocate for; Lobby ECU to upgrade equipment at the Bunbury campus gym, Creating fitness opportunities for mums on campus, Create new exciting events such as a ‘Drive In’ night, Use our S/W grounds for events such as ‘Tent in for GTM’ or ‘Family Day in May’, Lobby to make Co-op more accessible to Bunbury students. I am passionate with inclusivity and equality, our campus deserves just as much as what other campuses offer in facilities and events. I would be so honoured to have your vote to better our campus. I have been on the Southwest Campus for 6 years part time. In 2018, I finished my Bachelor of Arts (Education Studies) degree and started my second degree Bachelor of Youth Work. I have lived in Bunbury my entire life and I have chosen my second degree as I am wanting to make a difference in the lives of Youth. In 2018 I was a General Senator of the Southwest Guild and loved the position which improved our campus for this year. This election I am running for the South West Officer as I still have a lot more I can offer the Southwest campus. I believe I can contribute to making a difference on our campus; I am to contribute to the organisation of vibrant future events and create more interaction amongst the students from all disciplines and backgrounds. I have a positive, fun, friendly,

My name is Sarah Ryder and I am a student Nurse at the south west campus. 2019 will be my final year at ECU and over the last 3 years the guild has been very supportive and a fantastic resource for me. I would like this opportunity to be able to give back to the guild and hopefully help other students who are in the same situation as me. I am a single mother of a now 6 year old daughter and I completely understand how difficult it is to focus on studies whilst caring for a child on my own. As a General Senator of the south west I would like to improve the child minding facilities and to be able to emotionally support and to be a voice for single parents, both mothers and fathers, who are working hard to improve their future and the future of their children. 10.2 Wakiini GICHIRA Inspire ECU

Hello, I’m Wakiini Gichira. I am currently a 2nd year Nursing student at the Bunbury Campus. I am running to be your 2019 ECU Student Guild General Senator Southwest. Since the closing of the co-op at the Southwest campus I have been made aware of the many problems student face on the Bunbury Campus. Supporting and welcoming first years is especially important to me, as I felt it was something that was lacking when I started nursing at ECU. With the southwest officer I promise to deliver. Lobby ECU to provide a more effective service for buying textbooks and university supplies at the Bunbury campus. Lobby ECU to upgrade equipment at the Bunbury campus gym. Creating fitness opportunities for mums on campus. Create new exciting events such as a ‘Drive In’ night. Use our S/W grounds for events such as ‘Tent in for GTM’ or ‘Family Day in May’. Lobby to make Co-op more accessible to Bunbury students. With Ellen we have your back Southwest students! We want the Guild to be part of our journey at ECU. 11.1 Imman KHAN Lift ECU

I’m Imman Khan, I am currently a second-year law student. As a Pakistani Muslim, I desire to see my culture and religion represented within the university. Australia thrives on its diversity, yet ECU lacks at representing the range of cultures of its students. As the president of ECU Ethno-Cultural Collective, I have successfully catered to represent diversity by co-hosting a Ramadan dinner, celebrating Pak-India Independence Day, Multi-Cultural day, & Diwali. If

elected as a General Senator, I will ensure that ECU works to illustrate multiculturalism within the university. My major focus as a General Senator would be to initiate HALAL FOOD options around campus. As a Muslim student myself I feel the lack of consideration there is for our dietary requirement. Countless times I have walked around campus and left disappointed with an egg salad sandwich as my ONLY option. If provided the chance, diversity at ECU will be celebrated with events such as Hanukkah, Diwali, Eid, Ramadan and Navaratri while also initiating HALAL FOOD options. Let us make the words ‘feel at home’ become a reality for you. As Henry Ford said, “coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress and working together is a success.” So, together with one voice, LIFT ECU will create a platform that caters to represent all students. 11.2 Syed SHAH Inspire ECU

Hey I am Syed Shah I am running to be a General Senator in 2019 ECU Student Guild. I think the Guild can do more to support students. I will help to put on social sports days and develop events that encourages students to be socially active and engage students at all ECU campuses. Being a part of the INPSIRE team gives me the opportunity to help students from different cultures and help them access services the Guild has to offer. As an international student I know how tough and stressful exam time can be I want to deliver free soup days and a stress less week to help you de-stress during exam time. Helping students and making them feel comfortable in the ECU environment is my priority. If elected I will work with the student guild lobby to get grammarly or another software on all e-lab and university computers. So when you’re frantically working late on an assignment struggling to stay awake, you don’t have to worry about those embarrassing spelling and grammar errors on your assignment. My journey at ECU would have been much more enriching if I was aware of what the Guild and did. Because of my current friends and Inspire I am much more engaged with guild. 11.3 Sun-Mi CLYBURN Inspire ECU

Hi, my name is Sun-Mi Clyburn and I believe human connection is the meaning of life. My fascination for what makes people tick lead me to study Communications and then Psychology and Writing at Edith Cowan University (both Mt Lawley and Joondalup). I put all the knowledge and skills I gain from my studies into the work I do in mental health advocacy and I have a radio show dedicated to mental health, Audiotherapy, that is broadcast every Friday on Radio ECU from Mt Lawley Campus. I am passionate about facilitating positive discussions about mental health and illness and creating spaces for people to connect and share experiences without shame to bring more understanding and compassion to the subject. I'm also passionate about creativity, performing arts and the written word. I would advocate for events, education and services to better the mental health of all of us at ECU. 11.4 Samantha CRKOVSKY Lift ECU

Hi everyone, I’m running as general senator for ECU Guild. I’m currently studying Law and Criminology & Justice online, although I try to come on campus as much as possible. Outside of uni, I work full time for Native Title and am an Army Reservist. My life does not constantly revolve around my studies as I have other important commitments, so I understand the demands of life and the irregular study hours students can face. At the end of my studies, I will be a Legal Officer for the Defence Force – a little bit different to your 9-5 job. On campus, I am currently the Legal Advisor and Mentoring Director for ECU Women In Business. I also regularly compete in moots and networking events with ECSLS. I’m quite practical, therefore, I want to implement change that is practical for everyone – the current needs of our uni. As a general senator, I will implement: - a 24-hour general query chatline for all students - Increase student employment opportunities at ECU - Have lectures and tutorials uploaded to Blackboard on the same day - Increase the availability of summer and winter units run by ECU. I will continue to support: - 24-hour turnover for lecturers to answer student emails - 24-hour accessibility to computer/printer rooms. Hey I am Rajesh and I am running to be a General Senator in 2019 ECU Student Guild. I learnt about guild from my friends and I asked myself what does it do? This seeing the Chinese New Year Festival and celebrating a tone of cultural festivals and the Guild Cricket day has me interested in what the guild can offer you. Being a part of the INPSIRE team gives me the opportunity to help students from my culture and help them access services of the Guild. I want to stand up and give voice for all students domestic and international. I am proud Inspire want to expand the My International Day into the My International Weekend and our diverse team means we have the ability to advocate and interact with more students. If elected I will work with the student guild to see the events you want on campus. So when have a break from study there is always something to do. My name is Georgia Maher and I’m running for General Senator. At the moment, I’m in my first year of Computer Science, Majoring in Software Engineering, and an active participant in our ECU community. I am the current Co-President of the ECU Women’s Community, Committee Member for the Queer Collective, and Volunteer for the West Australian Code Makers where I teach children to code. I juggle all this with my formal studies and casual work because I love to be busy: seeing things get done, and people in my community benefitting from it makes me so

happy. If I am elected, I promise to help make this a guild for everyone by: - Increasing our engagement with the wider community by hosting market days in the “green areas”. This will not only benefit the small business owners but will hopefully increase foot traffic through the university and make the campus more inviting. - Facilitating the formation of an information bundle of club essentials; full of contacts specific to running events, job roles, and other important materials that make running a club more streamlined. - Making care packages for those in need; pantry boxes, clothes, and toiletries for people struggling with poverty, domestic violence, or homelessness. I am Tyler Ray and I’m running for an NUS delegate position. I believe students at ECU should have a left-wing activist representing them at NUS because we need people who are willing to fight for our education. For years, education has been under attack. Successive federal and state budget cuts to education have given the university administration an excuse to cut courses and increase fees. The result? ECU’s operating surplus throughout 2017 was $29 million. These cuts have resulted in less contact hours, and limits the student opportunity for intellectual exploration. Essentially, students are paying more to study in larger classes — or online — while the university has exceeded its expected profits by $10 million. In the short term I want to see that money spent on students, and I want to involve students in the fight for free education in Australia. I have been an activist in Perth and on ECU campuses for over 3 years. I have participated in campaigns for marriage equality and refugee rights, and against university fee increases, course cuts, and the rise of far right groups like One Nation and the True Blue Crew. I am involved in community action groups such as Friends of Palestine WA, United Against Bigotry and Racism, and Yes! for Marriage Equality. I believe that students are strongest together and sending students to the National Union of Students is the best way to coordinate our efforts.
