& Until the Dreams Come: A book of Poetry by Danabelle Gutierrez, Illustrated by artist Kris Kang

As a follow up to her first book “I Long To be A River,” Dubai­based poet Danabelle Gutierrez recently released another collection of poetry entitled “& Until The Dreams Come.” The book unfolds as a love story told through 55 poems, punctuated by original illustrations created by artist Kris Kang. Of writing the book, the author says “Writing ‘& Until The Dreams Come’ was harrowing to say the least. Putting it together was a dream. I had finished writing the manuscript then I thought I would ask Kris Kang whether he would like to illustrate and he obliged.”   Inspired by Danabelle’s poetry, Kris created five surreal watercolor pieces that illustrate the journey of a person in a relationship using the interaction of non­human objects to the human body, with its movements and characteristics defining and detailing the emotions depicted in the poems. Both the book and paintings have two main recurring themes: drowning, which is illustrated through sea­creatures, and being set on fire, which is illustrated through smoke and flames. Several elements of nature were also used to illustrate how love is an organic thing that lives and dies. “When I got the manuscript from Danabelle, most of the parts that were significant for me were the drowning moments of the character in the relationship,”says Kris. “And also in the way she described the man in the book, I immediately thought of underwater elements as a visual.”    The watercolor paintings created by Kris for “& Until The Dreams Come” are currently on exhibit at FN Designs in Alserkal Avenue, Dubai. The book is available for purchase in www.amazon.com and in selected stores in the UAE.
