and then say each word out loud. Make sure you
pronounce each syllable. In this exercise, you will see
several “long lines.” These are used in Katakana to
lengthen or double the preceeding vowel sound. For
example, in number five the romaji is “KI ”. This
is equivilent to KI I, where the long line represents
another “い” sound. In number 6, it represents an
“お” sound.
