Safety Policy

We recognize that business owners, managers, and all other employees share responsibility for a safe and healthful workplace.

Owners are accountable for preventing workplace injuries and illnesses. Suggestions for achieving a safer, healthier workplace will be evaluated. The safety program will be regularly evaluated and adjusted as required to meet our situation.

Managers are responsible for supervising and training workers in safe work practices. Managers must enforce organization rules and ensure that employees follow safe practices during their work.

Employees are expected to participate in safety and health program activities including a) immediately reporting hazards, unsafe work practices, and accidents to supervisors or a safety committee representative, b) wearing required personal protective equipment, and c) participating in and supporting safety committee activities.

Incidents, Injuries,and Near Misses

All of the above are required to be reported to the store Manager.

An Incident is an event that damages physical property, or interrupts production.

An Injury is damage to a person that may require first aid or further medical attention.

A Near Miss is what you recognize when someone or something almost was injured or damaged.

Page 22: Safety Program Orientation. Safety Program Agenda Organization Safety Policy Safety Goals Safety Meetings Hazard Communication Chemical

Incidents, Injuries, and Near Misses

Companies that report on near misses generally have fewer actual cases of personnel injury or physical damage.

All of the above require some level of investigation to determine the causation of the event, and to document how to avoid the same type of occurrence in the future.

A manager produces the root cause analysis, and owners review the report. Each root cause should be discussed in the next safety meeting or a meeting should be held to discuss lessons learned.

Incidents, Injuries, and Near Misses

Report Injuries to the manager or assistant manager.

Incidents, Injuries, and Near Misses

An employee injured badly enough to go to a medical provider will be driven by a company representative. It would be dangerous for a person to operate a motor vehicle directly after having been injured.

Each shop should identify a non emergency care clinic to use as a standard go to location. If an employee has their own Dr. and wishes to see them that is their right. But initial care should be at an urgent care facility.

Page 25: Safety Program Orientation. Safety Program Agenda Organization Safety Policy Safety Goals Safety Meetings Hazard Communication Chemical

Reporting unsafe conditions or practices

This is very similar to reporting near misses.

If you see something that is unsafe or someone working unsafely, immediately report it to either the assistant manger or manager.
