HOW tO SET F[|R EXpISURE (rhe eosiesr woy)Although the various controls shown on the opposite page may appear complicated, there is one verysimple way to set the camera for correct exposure, and you' l l probably want to standardize on i t .Here's how:

Select the shut ter speed you want to use. l / l25th is the

FlpqT. best average set t ing. On a br ight day, for fast act ionI rnrr I r shots, you can use 1/300th wi thout t rouble, and on a

dul l day use 1/60th. (More on th is on page 10.)

Read the number on your meter (PR-23A or 620) or use

1{EXT: lff i f,#.EV number in the exposure guide packed with

Move the Aperture Contro l unt i l the pointer below thelens res ts on the number you want . These are the . .EV"

Tl lFN. numbers, an extension of the or ig inal Polaro id LandI l lL l ro Camera number sys tem tha t makes i t unnecessary to

bother wi th " f -s tops."

l f you want to change shutter speeds, you can do so. You' l l notice that this wi l l shif t the "EV" numbersand you must reset the EV pointer to the number you want. You' l l also notice that there's a l imit tohow far the pointer wi l l go, and i f the number you want is beyond that l imit, you must turn the shuttercontrof r ing to bring the number to the pointer. How the process worksAlthough i t is by no means essent ia l that you

understand the Land process to get beaut i fu lp ic tures, many camera owners are interestedin learning how the camera works.

The Land photographic process uses a l ight 'sensi t ive "negat ive" mater ia l which is some-th ing l i ke convent iona l photograph ic f i lm. Ord i -nar i ly th is negat ive, af ter exposu re, would bedeve loped, f i xed , w?shed and dr ied , ? f ld thenused to make pos i t i ve p r in ts in another ser ieso f opera t ions . But in the Land camera , the nega '

t ive and posi t ive are developed at the samet ime, by the same chemica l reagent .

As the d iagram shows, the negat ive and posi '

t i ve ro l l s a re p laced in the i r con ta iners , w i th thenegat ive mov ing pas t the lens box and arounda ro l ler , where i t meets the posi t ive sheet .

When the camera back is c losed, the upperand lower ro l lers press the two sheets together. As the sheets are pul led to process a p ictu re, asmal l sea led "pod" conta in ing a ie l l ied com-pound and at tached to the posi t ive sheetpasses between the ro l lers and breaks out

a long one edge al lowing the mixture to f low out .The ro l lers spread the reagent between thetwo sheets, and development takes p lace. Atrue photographic image forms on the whi teposi t ive paper (which is not l ight-sensi t ive) . Theimage is made of metal l ic s i lver carr ied overf rom the negat ive in precisely the r ight amountsto depict the scene as you photographed i t .
