How it all

began.Facemash, the predecessor to Facebook was created by Mark Zuckerberg on October 28, 2003. In contrast to what we saw in the movie Social Network, Facemash was not a website through which you could only compare the girls at the university. However, the popularity of the website is undoubtedly the result of this property.

Do you want to see, how it worked?

2 BASIC ADVANTAGES OF FACEMASH:- Easy to use

- Base of pictures of all girls at the

university

Anyway, it wasn’t completely legal. How exactly did Mark Zuckerberg get the photos? He hacked into Harvard’s computer network and copied them, of course. This whole incident got the attention of Harvard’s school newspaper, The Harvard Crimson.

After Facemash:Mark Zuckerberg began to think about creating a new page that would help students from major American universities to communicate with each other. On February 12 , 2004 TheFacebook was created.

From TheFacebook to Facebook1. “The” was removed in 2005.2. Facebook was then opened on September 26, 2006 to everyone.3. Founders:

Mark ZuckerbergEduardo SaverinDustin MoskovitzChris Hughes(All were students at Harvard College at the time)

4. All four of the original founders left Harvard to pursue Facebook.com full-time in Palo Alto.

What is Facebook?Facebook is an international social networking website that is operated and privately owned by Facebook, Inc .

Facebook is created for people to communicate, but it also allows you to share your pictures, favourite music, books, movies and information about you, like address, hometown, phone number, e-mail, clubs, jobs, education history, birth date, sexual orientation, interest, daily shedules, relation to friends, political affiliations and more, which means that is enables you to create your own image. You can also create your own audience by choosing people, who you accept to be your „friends” or not.

When Mark Zukerberg created TheFacebook, he didn’t predict that it would be a place geared not only to locating and continuing school acquaintances and to sharing news and pictures. In a few years this modest website, prepared initially only for the Harvard students, accumulated more than 500 million active users in which 50 % of them log on Facebook every day. The popularity of the website address forced founders to extend the range of possibilities. They decided to make new applications, like for example “events”.

„Events” can serve both insignificant and important matters.

For example, Polish Television Polsat decided to change their season schedule after a protest of thousands of Poles, who wanted to watch “Home alone” movie at Christmas. For many it was a tradition to enjoy the story about Kevin, who had been left at home by parents, especially when is possible to watch it with a gathered family at Christmas time. Protesters used the facebook „events” and “groups” to show their demands, which brought positive results.

Facebook is primarily famous because of plenty of possibilities, but why people spend there usually 2 hours daily? There are many new applications and games. They can cause, that you stay on-line longer.

Because this page was initially created for young people, who spend the most time on the Internet, are familiar with computers and want to communicate via the Internet.

Because you can use it as your digital diary (blog), you can write short sentences about your day, post a song, which you heard while eating breakfast or picture of your little daughter, who just became a pupil of primary school. .

Because is free of charge.

Because Mark Zuckerberg tried to make Facebook a easy to use & positive webpage. That’s why we can only use „like button” to judge somebody’s picture or his/her short note.

Because of lack of annoying advertisement. Many of the ads on Facebook are repetitive, but they're not repulsive like the advertisements you see at MySpace. They're also targeted, so many times you will find things you really are interested, and this can lead to new hobbies and good and relevant finds.

To allay concerns about privacy, Facebook enables users to choose their own privacy settings and choose who can see specific parts of their profile.

Why is Facebook so popular?

1. Because is easy to use2. Because is free3. Because it helps people to connect via the Internet4. Because is equipped with a variety of applications and games5. Because is focused on young people6. Because of possibility to share music, videos, pictures, interest etc.7. Because of possibility to join some groups 8. Because of „positive” policy of this website9. Because of lack of annoying advertisement

Why is Facebook so popular?

10. Because of reliable privacy settings (high level of security)11. Because of structure of „digital diary”12. Because of Social Interaction by using „events”13. Because this is the best place to create our own image.14. And your own „audience”.

All the things made Facebook uncommonly popular and his founder Mark Zuckerberg uncommonly rich.
