“Bless our God, winter cold and summer heat; sing praise and highly exalt God forev-er.” –Prayer of Azariah 1:45

The summer can be a wonderful time for rest and relaxation. We are so busy all the time! It is right and good to find the time to rest- even God rested on the sev-enth day! Take some time this summer to practice your Sabbath. What sorts of ideas do you have for Sabbath? I have some:

Sleeping in as late as your body needs to

Finding new places in and around Connecticut to go hiking Taking the time to cook a healthy meal Taking a nap Spending time with family or friends (minus the cell phones, Facebook and Net-

flix)

Some things not to do on your Sabbath: Housework Checking your work e-mail Paying the bills Mowing the lawn (unless, of course, you find that relaxing!) During these less busy months, challenge yourself to take one full day off per

week. After all, how can we stay connected to God if we’re too busy to seek that con-nection?

Your partner in Christ,

Rev. Kristen

The church is sponsoring a pen/stylus fundraiser to help with all of the projects and missions of the church. These are beautiful and they have a dual purpose. They are pens with black ink and a smart phone, tablet or touch computer stylus as well. The colors are beautiful and they would make awesome gifts . We are asking for a donation of $10 for each pen. If you make a donation of $35 you will receive 4 pens. A plain stylus at a local office store starts at about $12 and goes up from there and does not include a pen! The pen comes in 7 beautiful colors

Garnet Red

Orange Amber

Aquamarine Green

Sky Blue

Sapphire Blue

Amethyst Purple

Graphite Gray The pen is inscribed with the church’s information so peo-ple will know where the pen came from and where to get another!

I will have the pens at church on Sundays and looking for people willing to take packs of 10 pens to offer to family and friends.

Call to the Budget Meeting A Special Meeting for the proposed budget of the Prospect Congregational Church, UCC will be held Sunday, July 26, 2015 in the Sanctuary, 20 minutes following worship or 10:30 a.m., whichever is later. The purpose of the meet-ing is to discuss and vote on the proposed budget 2015-2016.

We are pleased to announce to the congregation that the Church Repair Loan

from Cornerstone has been paid in full. Every donation toward paying off this

large debt has been gratefully received. We would especially like to

acknowledge the Evening Women's Association whose last extremely gener-

ous donations paid the outstanding balance in full. They are a wonderful ex-

ample of the blessings we receive of their time, talent and treasure. Thank

you. Tina Soderberg, Financial Secretary and the Finance Committee.

Pen/Stylus Fundraiser: We have ordered pens that also act as a stylus that you can use on

all your tablets and phones. We have 6 colors and we are asking for a donation of $10 each

or if you donate $35 you will receive 4 pens/stylus. If you purchase a plain stylus at a local

office supply store they run from $12 and up. I will also be packaging them in 10's for

members to take and sell. The pens are engraved with church information so people will

remember where to go if they want another. This fundraiser could net the church as much

as $4,500. They make great gifts for family and friends. More information is available out

on the website.

Homeless Awareness Summer Ministry — Summer is finally here and the warmer weather makes us think of the needs of those who are homeless and living out-doors. Two years ago we began the Summer Ministry and we would like to continue it this year. Items that are very helpful for this ministry are; water, bug spray, hydrocorti-sone cream, batteries, granola bars, rain-ponchos, and baby wipes. These items are very helpful for Rick Povailitis when he goes into the woods to minister to those living there. They open an opportunity for friendship and discussion which can lead to better health care and reduction of homelessness for the people he works with. Please join with us in collecting the above items; they can be placed in the basket in the narthex during the months of June and July. As always we are grateful for the generosity of our congre-gation. Thank you and God bless you, the Mission Committee

Church World Service School Kits Last year Rev. Phyllis challenged the congregation to fill 100 school kits for CWS. And we exceeded that challenge with 135 school bags! This year the Mission Board would like to issue the same challenge; one hundred bags of school supplies for children here in this country and around the world. Last year's school kits were distributed by Orthodox Chris-tian Charities in Syria (18,000), Bosnia (15,000), and Greece (30,000) and here in the United States over 400 kits to homeless families, children impacted by spring storms, ref-ugees settling in cities and migrant workers in AL, AZ, CO, KY and NY. More information is available at the CWS web-site. The list of items is below and it is important to follow it carefully. CWS wants to be sure each child gets the same items and each of the items is important for the child to have. So many people reported that it was fun to collect the items especially when Staples, Ocean State Job Lot and Walmart had back-to-school sales in August. And many of the supplies can be purchased at the dollar store. Some families had their children help pick out the items. We have asked some of our members who are handy at sewing to again provide us with the school bags. And they will be available later in the summer in the Narthex. We appre-ciate everyone's help in making this Mission project a success. Maybe we can even beat last year's count!!

To assemble a school kit you will need; * One pair of metal scissors with rounded tips * Three 70-count spiral notebooks or notebooks totalling 210 pages (not loose leaf paper) * One 30 centimeter ruler (12 inches) * One hand-held pencil sharpener * One large eraser * Six new pencils with erasers * One box of 24 crayons (only 24) * $2 for shipping cost All of these can be put into the school bag (provided by us) and left in the basket in the Narthex. Again thank you to our Congregation for making this a success.

Mark your calendars – this year’s Vacation Bible School, Everest, will be held August 3 – 7 from 7-8:30p.m. Embark on an icy expedition where kids overcome obstacles with God's awesome power. Anchor kids in rock-solid Bible truths that will guide them through life's chal-lenges. Experience God's Word in surprising and unforgettable ways! Each day, we will reinforce one simple Bible truth—which makes it easy for kids (and adults) to remember and apply to real life! Come join us for a week of fun for all ages. All are welcome! Also a reminder that now that Sunday School has ended, Summer Chil-dren’s Chapel is has begun. All grades (Pre-K thru 8) are welcome to join in every Sunday in the hall.
