Bearers of the Word The Church has placed a number of notable feast days immediately after Christmas. The feasts of Stephen, John the Evangelist, and the Holy Innocents form a summary of the life lived in Christ, the Word made flesh. What do these have to do with the feast of the Holy Family, which crowns the Octave of Christmas? These feasts remind us that suffering will occur in fulfilling the mission of Christ, and that we are all called to be bearers of this Word whose birth we celebrate. We also see this manifested in the lives of Joseph and Mary, both of whom took social and religious risks in obedience to the will of God, and both of whom were open to the word of God sent to them from on high. In these ways they prefigured the life of Jesus himself. Most likely, few of us found ourselves at Mass this past Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, but the essence of these feasts and the essence of the holiness of Joseph, Mary, and Jesus remain central, a holiness we celebrate today. What a Beautiful Sound! Many thanks to the St. Ambrose Adult Vocal Choir and Bell Choir for the beautiful Christmas concert! What a wonderful way to celebrate the season with God’s gift of music and song! How truly blessed we are at St. Ambrose to have the

quality music program we have...one we should never take for granted. A big “God Bless You!” and “Holiday Thank You!” to all. A very special “thank you” goes out to Tess who brings the thousands and thousands of musical notes together to create the joyful sounds of the season!

The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary & Joseph December 31, 2017

A Long List of “Thank You” Notes! Preparing for the great celebration of Christmas takes a lot of time and work from many parishioners. We are truly grateful for those who volunteered so much to make Christmas 2017 at St. Ambrose & St. Michael such a beautiful and prayerful experience. - We extend a very special thank you to the members of the Worship Committee and all those who helped to decorate our churches for Christmas. - Thank you to all those involved with our music ministry: the vocal choir, the bell choir, the soloists and instrumentalists. With joyful hearts you helped us lift up our praise to God in song. Your many hours of rehearsals and the sharing of your talents are greatly appreciated. - Thank you to all those who were involved in liturgical roles during our Christmas Masses: lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, altar servers, greeters, ushers, and music ministers. - Thank you also to our families for your generous Christmas contributions. Your selfless giving enables us to pay the monthly bills as well as continue the mission of Jesus. May God bless you for your generous hearts. Christmas offering envelopes are still coming in. We will have a final total for our Christmas offering in the next few weeks. - Thank you to all who gifted us at the rectory with cards, personal gifts and holiday goodies. - But most of all, thank you to the families of St. Ambrose and St. Michael for your continued witness to the love of God, for your faith that gives strength, and for your dedication to your parish.

Bishop Murry will preside at the Masses for Life on: Saturday, Jan. 13, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Parish (North Canton, 241 S. Main Street) Sunday, Jan. 21, at 4:00 p.m. at St. Columba Cathedral (Youngstown, 159 W. Rayen Ave.)
