Rothstein Resigns fromPositions
Jules M. Rothstein, PhD, PT, FAPTA resigned from hispositions as Head of the Departmentof PhysicalTherapy at the University of Illinois and as Chief ofPhysical Therapy Services at the University of IllinoisHospital in early August. In resigning, he expressed thebelief that at this time, due to his ongoing healthdifficulties and the demands of these posts, it would bebest for him to reduce his workload. In particular, while he is not acutely ill and still relatively low on thepriority list for a liver transplant, a diminished level ofresponsibility is in his best interest. After taking someleave, Dr. Rothstein will continue as a full professor inthedepartment and looks forward to increased researchactivities, teaching and involvement in clinical practice. His decision to step down from his UIC administrativeposts does not effect his ongoing role as Editor ofPhysical Therapy. Dr. Rothstein looks forward tocontinuing his commitment to the University of Illinoisand the profession ofphysical therapy as a professorand Editor. cV

Celebrate National Physical Therapy Month!tHEALTH IN BALANCE
It's almost here! October is National Physical TherapyMonth! How will you celebrate and promote theprofession ofphysical therapy?
The APTA has offered a list of events and activities that
PTs, PTAs and students can develop to spread the wordabout the physical therapy profession. Fitness clinics, open houses, demonstrations, exhibits and fun runs/walks are all activities that attract a wide audience.
This year's theme is Physical Therapy: Health inBalance - a message everyone can relate to. .AlreadyIPTA Chapter members are involved in high-profileevents throughout October. The "Walk for Mope" onOctober 17 is a fitness/leisure walk to raise awareness
and money to fight breast cancer. Sponsored by CoodHousekeeping and Reebok, the event is expected todraw national attention to the physical therapy profession. PTs are volunteering to help the walkers perform
their warm-up exercises correctly by monitoring postureand stretching techniques. In additon, the warm-upswill be led by a PT who isa breast cancer survivor ineach state that hosts a walk. IPTA member Toni
Sander will lead the Chicago walkers and has beeninstrumental in developing the warm-up exercises withthe APTA.
The Chicago Marathon, scheduled for October 24, isanother popular event that therapists are helping outwith. Volunteers will staff the medical tent at the end
of the race route screening runners and escorting themto the medical team in the event that they need care.
So, take this opportunity to promote your profession!Celebrate National Physical Therapy Month! (^
Ifyou are interested in volunteeringfor either of these twoevents contact Leslie Hanson at the IPTA Chapter Office.
