Before 1970: They did not have to replant any trees, they cut the forests clean.
1986: They limited the size and length of logging contracts. Forests HAD to be replenished.
1994: Amount of wood they can harvest is limited.
Used a new cutting method that protected the soil so new trees could grow.
Maintains and improves the life of forests ecosystems so current and future generations can use them.
Industry provided 80,000 jobs in Quebec
It is the main industry for 145 municipalities.
Wood exports total 50 billion$
1) Cut trees.
2) Load logs on to trucks.
3) Bring logs to the sawmill and turn them to lumber.
4) Lumber brought to converting plants to make products.
5) Finished product in stores.
