Page 10: For developing a personality cult To create a strong positive impression To maintain & prove in a long run.

PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT

Id represent need-gratification impulses such as the primitive instinctual drives of hunger , sexuality and aggression.

Page 11: For developing a personality cult To create a strong positive impression To maintain & prove in a long run.

PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT

• Ego is a balance between primitive drives, morals and reality while satisfying the Id. IF Id's desires to be expressed, but only when consequences of these actions are minimal. When Id behavior conflicts with reality and either society's morals, norms, and taboos or the individual's expectations as a result of the internalization of these morals, norms, and taboos into the superego. This has got to do more on psychic functions such as reality-testing, defence, synthesis of information, intellectual functioning, and memory

Page 12: For developing a personality cult To create a strong positive impression To maintain & prove in a long run.

PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT

• The Superego is the moral part of us and develops due to the moral and ethical restraints placed on us

• The super-ego is a symbolic internalization of the father figure and cultural regulations. The super-ego tends to stand in opposition to the desires of the id because of their conflicting objectives, and is aggressive towards the ego. The super-ego acts as the conscience, maintaining our sense of morality.

• The super-ego retains the character of the father

Page 13: For developing a personality cult To create a strong positive impression To maintain & prove in a long run.

PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT

• Ego stands in between the Id and the Superego to balance our primitive needs and our moral beliefs and taboos

Ref: structural model of the psyche -- Sigmund Freud

Page 14: For developing a personality cult To create a strong positive impression To maintain & prove in a long run.

PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT

• Freud considered the super-ego as a kind of unconscious ego, wherein one bases judgment not within conscious logic, but rather within the subconscious. Wherein apart from id, of which one is generally unaware, and the conscious ego, of which one is constantly aware, the mind constructs ideas and logic based in concepts instilled within the subconscious by environment, social norms and potentially instinct.

Page 15: For developing a personality cult To create a strong positive impression To maintain & prove in a long run.

PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT

• Freud's theories were constructed based upon his studies of the human mind. Many theorists postulate that the mind finds its home within the brain, but considering the vastness of the brain's reach throughout the body by way of the nervous system, it stands to reason that the mind is present throughout the entire human anatomy

Page 16: For developing a personality cult To create a strong positive impression To maintain & prove in a long run.

PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT

• Excess of Id, Ego & Super Ego may be harmful and may eat away one’s talent. Excess ego may get you away from happiness, learning & meaningful life. However, for a complete personality balance of id, ego & super ego is desired. Therefore one should be practical in his approach

Page 17: For developing a personality cult To create a strong positive impression To maintain & prove in a long run.

PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT

• Our behavioral traits when subjected to stressful situations & our ability to maintain balance of mind, makes us desirable in society & develop our personality .

• Consistent efforts to identify our weaknesses, “Self Appraisals” on our attitudes help us developing our personality

Page 18: For developing a personality cult To create a strong positive impression To maintain & prove in a long run.

PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT

• According to Jung, the personality consists of six parts: the ego, the personal unconscious, the collective unconscious, the persona, the anima, and the shadow.

• Ego is made up of conscious perceptions, memories, thoughts and feelings. Experiences of our lives which have been repressed or forgotten, can under certain circumstances be recalled.

Page 19: For developing a personality cult To create a strong positive impression To maintain & prove in a long run.

PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT

Collective unconscious is a storehouse of ancestral memories.• Individual’s personality does not look backwards only to its racial past, but also

forwards to a goal, which is the development of a unified whole known as the self. The self or psyche, according to Jung, has four basic functions. These are:

Thought Feelings Sensation & Intuition. Thoughts seek to understand the world on the basis of a true-false evaluation;

feeling apprehends it on the basis of a pleasant-unpleasant evaluation; sensation perceives things through the senses; intuition perceives them through an inner awareness

Page 20: For developing a personality cult To create a strong positive impression To maintain & prove in a long run.

PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT

• Personality development is the doctrine of being creative self ie A man makes his own personality out of the raw materials of heredity and experience.

• Adler’s conception of the nature of personality thus coincides with the popular idea that man can be the master, and not the victim, of his fate.

• Alder says that the individual’s style of life or law of movement is an expression of his total personality. The style of life is the individual’s characteristic way of reacting to the situations that confront him in life & sleep

Page 21: For developing a personality cult To create a strong positive impression To maintain & prove in a long run.

PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT

• Horney has added the concept of what she calls the ‘idealized image’.  This is the mental picture that a person has of himself as he would like to be.  A man who is a failure will picture himself as a success. It is a face-saving device which enables the individual to retain a good opinion of himself in spite of evidence to the contrary. This idealized image may help us in building positive value to our personality. Horney has suggested that people are motivated by two basic drives: Need of security & Need of satisfaction

Page 22: For developing a personality cult To create a strong positive impression To maintain & prove in a long run.

PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT

• The ego we can characterize briefly by saying that it represents reason. The superego is the voice of conscience. Such a person is naturally full of conscientious scruples and high-minded to the point of idealism. There is some resemblance here with Jung’s intuition types, who are guided by their convictions. To the superego-personality morality is the most important thing, whereas to the ego-personality the most important thing is truth. To the id-personality, on the other hand, the most important thing is pleasure.

PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT

Following are personality factors upon which the happiness of a marriage depends:

1, A couple who can share common interests have a firm basis for their marriage.

2. The ability to co-operate is a basic requirement for marital success.3. Emotional maturity, based on a happy home life in childhood, is an

invaluable asset

Page 24: For developing a personality cult To create a strong positive impression To maintain & prove in a long run.

PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT

• ‘Success’ may be defined not in terms of money, but as the extent to which each man had made use of his superior intellectual gifts.

• If you truly want to be a creative person, you will follow your own inclinations. You cannot create art, literature, or new ideas if you do not have the courage to be different. Almost every talented person has had to see his or her work through to completion against the criticism of others.

Page 25: For developing a personality cult To create a strong positive impression To maintain & prove in a long run.

PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT

• Difference between the passive and the aggressive persons• The assertive person gets fed up rather quickly when being taken

advantage of. • The unassertive person rebels too late, after suffering lots of abuse, but

eventually rebels just exactly the same way. Passive people are dominated because they allow it.

• Lack of assertiveness is therefore directly tied to becoming more fearless. The equation goes something like this: as fear diminishes, assertion increases. .

Page 26: For developing a personality cult To create a strong positive impression To maintain & prove in a long run.

PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT

• One of the most powerful emotions disturbing our mental tranquility is hatred. The antidote is compassion.

• Greatest fear you may have is the fear of disapproval. Rejection actually hurts.

• Rejection upsets every individual as it gives a feeling that the individual is worthless. At times we remain in jobs because we need money. And many people stay in unhappy / miserable marriages, because they need the money.

Page 27: For developing a personality cult To create a strong positive impression To maintain & prove in a long run.

PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT

The degree of a person’s success in life is:• commensurate with the degree of will-power he has

attained & • When his mind is developed, we are ready to take the most

important step in developing the will-power. This step is to remove the dichotomy between the: head and heart, the intellect & Emotion Thinking & feelings
