Martine Carré-TallonUniversity ProfessorDirector of the Magistère BFA

The Magistère BFA delivers both a Bachelors’s degree in Applied Economics at the end of the first year of studies (diploma equivalence) and a Master’s degree at the end of the training programme.

It has a special status within the French university system. It compares to the French elite Grandes Ecoles and top Business Schools structures: the programme is spanned over three years of intensive training, up to four when the gap year is included.

The Magistère BFA provides students with highly professional training, broad enough to encompass all specialties in finance and financial economics, deep enough to allow them to shape the future of the finance industry.

The special status of the Magistère BFA affords a wide range of courses and a unique training experience that would not be possible with traditional Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees.

Training for Excellence

The Magistère BFA offers a very selective programme over three years with a specialization in corporate finance or market finance during the third year of training.

The curriculum combines courses in economics and finance with law, accounting, and financial analysis as well as solid skills in computer programming tools, econometrics, and other quantitative methods.

The three-year training programme (attested by both a License and a Master’s degree) provides students with the right mix of in-depth knowledge and breadth of skills in finance. Thus, the BFA students are ready to embrace careers of high-profile professionals who will successfully evolve in a rapidly changing financial industry environment. The exposure to cutting-edge technologies through applied finance projects involving corporate partners is a key part of the BFA programme.

The Magistère training programme combines high-level academic education, finance projects with corporate partners, applied training (in particular using Bloomberg) and internships. The BFA students acquire up to 18 months of professional experience before their last year of training, followed by a last 6-month period of internship or a first job in the finance industry.

An Exceptional NetworkThe strength of the Magistère is that it has been able to establish over the years, a privileged relationship with a large number of professional partners, enabling:• The implementation of innovative projects• Study visits to major financial centers (London - Singapore)• Simulation of recruitment interviews• Afterworks meetings• Privileged relationships with prestigious international academic partners

(Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon, Bocconi, Hong Kong UST, etc.)• Meetings with its alumni network (BFA mentors programme)

The Magistère BFA was created in 1986. In the past 30 years, it has built a proven track-record in educating experts in economics and finance and in launching successful careers in finance, banking, audit, consulting, and insurance (traders, sales, structurers, chief economists, asset managers, analysts, M&A specialists, private equity analysts, research, …).

International Opening

During the second year (M1), a one-week study trip to a major financial center (Singapore in the past three years) is organized under the direct supervision of the Director and the Director of Education of the Magistère. Corporate and investor-like presentation meetings with major banks, asset managers and insurers are organized.

A back-to-school week in London (corporate visits, finance projects with partners) kick-starts the second and third years of studies (M1 and M2).

A full semester exchange is possible for third year BFAs (M2) with one of our international partner universities (McGill, Toronto, and Laval in Canada, Washington University of Saint Louis in the US, Madrid and Venice in Europe). Moreover, the Magistère BFA is an academic partner of the QTEM exchange programme networking universities with quantitative training in economics, finance and management.

The Magistère BFA has developed special partnerships with prestigious international universities in Finance: LSE (London), Bocconi (Milan), Berkeley (US), Carnegie Mellon (US), HKUST (Hong Kong). This allows us to offer successful BFA graduates specific recommendations to pursue their studies abroad in selective training programmes.

The second year of Master is taught in English. Coaching of students wishing to carry out an internship abroad is set up in the training.

The Student-run AssociationThe BFA Association is actively run by the BFA students in order to promote the Magistère values and develop extra-curricular activities thanks to a network of close to 1,000 fellow alumni built over 30 years.

In particular, the Association coordinates special events tailored to the interests of the BFA students. This includes thematic after-works with corporate partners (Audit, Insurance, Market Finance, and Corporate Finance), study trips (London, Singapore…), and meetings with peers to fine-tune their professional projects.

Other events are organized by the BFA Association through the year: orientation weekend, ski trip, BFA dinners...

The BFA Association allows BFA students to be directly involved in their education programme. It shares the core values of the Magistère BFA: vitality and determination!
