andornamentalfences.InThailand,afenceeffectivelytellsusaboutthehomeowner’ssocialandfinancialstatus.Delimitingaclear

boundaryoflandownershipisacommondesignelementthatarchitectsmustplanoutandsolveduringtheearlystagesofdesignin

ordertosuitThaihabits,lifestylesandsocialimportance,especiallyforthosewhorequiresecurityandaddedprivacy.Inallhonesty,

ahousewithnofenceisanarchitect’sdreambecauseitgivesthehouseamuchcleanerlook.Besides,theabsenceoffenceswould

In a residential development project, this house is located at the end of a roundabout where the front of the house is partially visible. This site plan draws on a compact concept: on the left, a sub-entrance and a guardhouse; on the right, a waste container; and the middle area serves as a driveway. A stainless steel address plaque floats on top of the narrowest part of the thin wall, allowing for a fine bordering the entrance.

The main entrance is composed of wooden panels attached to a steel plate on both sides to give it a weightless appearance. A mid-level horizontal opening at the end of the gate neatly coordinates with the address plaque, sub-entrance and the guardhouse window. In short, each element is interestingly intertwined yet easily distinguishable from one another.

Materials used to build the fence in part stem from the decorative elements found inside the home. By using Rex Stone with varying thicknesses to construct the fence creates a pattern depth that is mesmerizing, especially when considering how basic the fence design really is. A flat, horizontal white concrete slab not only protects the guardhouse and the sub-entrance from the harsh weather conditions, but does so harmoniously - a true reflection of continuity between a fence and house.

The designer finalizes the fence design with an open and light look, as requested by the owner, who envisioned a ‘no fence’ concept.

‘‘If every house had a solid fence around it, this street would feel totally isolated. I believe the absence of a fence is a good design model because it enables passersby to see and appreciate each house through a green barrier, which would make this street much more lively and no longer so isolated.’’, Nithi said.

Stemming from the owner’s ‘no fence’ design idea the owner has to build a fence in order to prevent undesirable visitors, especially in Thailand where hawkers and abandoned animals are everywhere. The weightless and open black steel fence, exposed concrete and easily maintained creeper are the best solution. Also, an old red door inside the house serves as a visual filter and also keeps the house’s privacy.

The steel is an on-shelf material so it is convenient to find and only requires maintenance every four to five years. Moreover, no main-tenance is necessary for the exposed concrete wall. This design model reflects the simplest solution that adheres to both the own-er’s wishes and privacy, in which the fence is clearly in harmony with the austere house.

A sylvan and relaxed retreat is of concern by employing simple steel structure that is projected over the gate. The frame becomes the creeper’s support and allows it to expand and also provide some shade. In addition, the fence is a long distance from the street, which means ample space to nurture a lovely flowerbed. The side of the fence that runs along the street side becomes a green and pleasant divider that communicates passersby with a sense of fa-miliarity.

The mailbox and address plaque are kept simple, too, in character, functional and of little maintenance by employing stainless steel for the plaque and abstract elements including lighting, to brighten both sides of the entrance, making it very noticeable.

The motif of the fence is barely a matter of creating an ordinary or invisible fence, however, in an admiring way that generates a famil-iar atmosphere that aesthetically contributes it the public space.

Here, the unity between the fence and this vacation home was the

designer’s primary concern. The house sits on the beach and keeps

in harmony with the fence whether or not it is open or closed. Hori-

zontal elements of natural wood lattices and bare concrete walls are

interestingly composed, almost luring and persuading visitors to

appreciate the design.

The large guardhouse proposes a new design form as it needs to

function both as a regular guardhouse as well as a home for the

guard’s family who live there permanently. The cylindrical building

becomes the focal point, as the curving lines offer a transitional ele-

ment that turns the sense of a chaotic urban home into a serene

getaway retreat.

The gate perfectly demonstrates how it is not always necessary to

completely cover the house to create a sense of privacy. At night,

lighting from a nearby lamp selectively illuminates the acrylic num-

bers on the address plaque as the remaining space serves as a

nifty background. Instead of directly lighting the fence, the designer

takes full advantage of its beautiful form and creates a mysterious

silhouette by using the entrance lamp as a backlight.

All materials and equipment utilized at this beach home are dra-

matically expressed to reveal their true natural beauty; no elements

cover any of the design mechanics, including the gate rollers, rails,

gears, etc. This bold concept derives from the idea of simple main-

tenance and a strong belief that the true beauty of the fence and

house will naturally reveal itself over time.

The vertical grey concrete elements and black steel plates are assembled

with regular spacing, which brings about two different effects: semi-opaque

and see-through, at the same time. And the outdoor space blends well with

the interior space. The fence is simple, economic and splendid, while a

green barrier provides privacy. Since the residence is located within a

housing development zone, there is no need for concerns for additional

security. The building is parallel with the spacious garden out front, while

the rhythmic form of the concrete fence and green barrier become the main

concept of the overall design.

The path leading to the house entrance is veiled by a wooden gate that

intertwines with the wooden louvers in front of it, which clearly play an

important aspect to the look of the house. A sliding door is employed to

conserve the limited space available, while the fence motor is cleverly

hidden behind the trees.

Near to the garden the fence becomes more visible, in relation to the party

room. Black fine lines made of steel plates make the fence transparent,

attractive and weightless. As for privacy, vertical concrete elements are

positioned in a way that the perceived perception changes according to

the angle of the vertical elements. And with the use of various sizes and

proportions, these components control and reflect the spatial hierarchy,

and push the concept of perception to the limit.

A composition of various forms using a mix of deformation and

penetration techniques brings about a colorful and lively fence de-

sign that enlists a variety of materials and dynamic lines to deliver

an interesting home design rich in character. The house is located

near a roundabout at the end of a cul-de-sac. Based on the existing

surroundings the designer rightly decided to transform the curvilin-

ear form of the roundabout into a series of short straight lines placed

perpendicular to the radius of the junction while the raised fencing

is a long distance from the front of the property, which would other-

wise be left in vain. Therefore, this approach is the most suitable

one for this particular instance.

Since a fence is often defined by its functionality and material prop-

erties, the main entrance of this property calls for a sliding door that

is composed of vertical wooden lattice panels together with hori-

zontally positioned steel plates that are painted black. Both the

sliding door and the curved fence blend together well. Laid down

like stonework, the slate tiles are inserted in the exposed spacing of

the concrete fence, which add depth to the whole design. Despite

the contrast between the two materials – the rough texture of the

rock layers and the smooth surface of the bare concrete – still pro-

vide design unity, and highlights each material’s true composition

naturally.

The guardhouse has a curved base that is exposed and made of

concrete with a solid wooden box. Long and narrow openings cre-

ate the illusion that the wooden box appears to be floating above

the concrete base, contributing to the impact of a weightless com-

position. The outline of the guardhouse coupled with a steel frame

housing the sliding door all come together in perfect harmony. Apart

from creating an illusion the narrow openings also serve two other

important functions: a) allows a security guard to see outside the

property with protection in mind and, b) veils any cluttered objects

within the property from passers-by. Completing the look is a wood

lattice canopy placed diagonally to the axis of the house, which of-

fers shade and invites visitors to come in. In short, the facade of the

solid fence in its entirety is both interesting and attractive.

รวหลากสสนหลายวสด เสนสายทดเคลอนไหวอนเกดจากการจดองคประกอบของหลายรปทรงเขาดวยกน ทงบดโคง เสยบทะล เกดเปนความนาสนใจ ทสะทอนเอกลกษณของบานออกมาอยางสนกสนาน บนทดนลกษณะเฉพาะอยสดปลายถนนทเปนวงเวยนกลบรถ (Cal de Sac) ซงหากทำรวแนวตรงกจำเปนตองรนระยะเขามามาก ทำใหเสยพนทดานหนา การเลอกใชเสนตรงหลายเสนวางตงฉากกบรศมความโคงของถนนจงเปนทางออกทเหมาะสมกวา ดวยลกษณะทางกายภาพของการใชงาน และคณสมบตวสดเปนตวกำหนด จงไดแผงไมแนวตงคาดดวยเหลกสดำสนท เปนประตเลอนทางเขาหลก สอดรบกบรวโคงคอนกรตเปลอยผวเรยบสนท แทรกดวยหนกาบสนทใชลกเลนโดยการหนเอาสนดานขางออก เกดเปนมตในทางลก ททำใหพนผววสดดตดกบความเรยบ ในขณะเดยวกนภาพรวมกยงคงดกลมกลน เปนการแสดงสจจะของแตละวสดอยางเปนธรรมชาต สวนปอมยามทประกอบขนจากฐานคอนกรตเปลอยโคงกบกลองบไมทบ ทำใหดเสมอนเปนอกรปทรงหนงวางลอยอย เพราะมชองเปดกระจกแนวยาวคนกลาง ซงนอกจากจะสรางความรสกบางเบาใหกบกลองไม และเสนสายตอเนองไปจนถงโครงเหลกของประตบานเลอนแลว ในแงการใชสอยยงใหยามมองลอดออกมาไดตลอดแนว ในขณะทชองเปดตามแนวยาวนกชวยบดบงความไมเรยบรอยภายในปอมยามไดด โดยม Canopy ระแนงไมวางทแยงมมจากแนวแกนของบาน ออกมาเชอเชญแขกผมาเยอนถงหนาประต ภาพรวมของรวทบนจงดนาสนใจและนาคนหา

The fencing encircling this tropical country style house highlights the true nature of the land. The property stands proudly on a mountain, which provides a panoramic aerial view of the sea below. The look of the fence derives from the concept of a boat and reflects the authen-ticity of the structure and materials in its entirety including every mi-nor detail. In particular, the crossed wood structure, steel top for locking the column capital, knot and screw joints, as well as exposed wood and concrete surfaces. Hence, definitively reiterates the har-monious existence between the fence and property site.

Typically, a holiday house is accustomed to high privacy, thus the entrance door and fence are often solid and opaque with a small opening at the guardhouse so that there is still a clear view of arriving guests. The solidity of the fence summons a spatial perception of the house in a visual sequence by which the gradual unveiling of parts makes the house more interesting and mysterious.

The complexity of the fence design is high as it calls for the enclosure to be built on a rocky mountain range that is on a slope while making sure the lattice sits evenly and on the same level. Although the sliding door may not appear to be well suited to the immediate surrounding at first glance, the problem was aptly addressed and solved by fac-toring in the conditions and angles pertinent to this site to accurately control the level and slope of the fence. The wooden sliding door distributes its heavy weight evenly on the rails both regularly and perfectly. And the vertical plane of the wooden door allows rainwater to easily trickle down and drain thanks to the spacing between the wood pieces, which makes the door more durable and easy to main-tain.The entrance approach is created by employing interplay between the plane, beam and canopy above the entrance door. Moreover, the height clearance of large-size vehicles was also a part of the consid-eration process in the event of the need to haul belongings.

The address plaque is made of black steel placed at noticeable inter-vals. It appears simple and goes well with the elements of the en-trance door. The rest of the solid fence engages with the various heights of the wall while the height of the downward steps along the hill make use of the stones found there to build the fencing and ulti-mately bring about a sense of place and harmony.

รวของบานสไตล Tropical Country หลงน สะทอนความเปนธรรมชาตของทตงอยางครบถวนบรบรณ กลาวคอตงอยในปาบนภเขา ทสามารถมองเหนทะเลดานลางเปนมมกวาง รปลกษณทปรากฏใหเหนซงไดรบแรงบนดาลใจมาจาก “เรอ” จงแสดงใหเหนสจจะของโครงสรางและวสดอยางตรงไปตรงมา ตงแตภาพรวมไปจนถงในรายละเอยด อยางการขดกนของโครงสรางไม การใชเหลกรดหวเสา การยดดวยนอตสกร และการเปลอยผววสดทงเหลกและไม จงทำใหลกษณะทดกลมกลน เปนอนหนงอนเดยวกบทำเลทตง ดวยความเปนบานพกตากอากาศจงตองการความเปนสวนตวสงมาก ประตและรวทกสวนจงทบสนท มเพยงชองเปดขนาดเลกของสวนปอมยามใหมองเหนผมาตดตอได ความทบของรวยงสอดคลองกบแนวคดในการสรางความรสก ใหรบรทวางทางสถาปตยกรรมของบานหลงนอกดวย คอเปนการลำดบภาพใหคอยๆ เหนทละสวนๆ เหมอนการกำหนดมมมองในภาพถายแตละภาพนนเอง การเขาถงจงมความนาสนใจ และนาคนหาอยตลอดเวลา ความซบซอนของการออกแบบรวบนภเขาคงหนไมพนเรองระดบและความลาดชน แมบานเลอนจะดไมเหมาะสมกบทตงแบบนนก แตหากไดรบการแกปญหาและตรวจสอบระดบอยางดแลว จะสามารถชวยแกปญหาเรองนำหนกของบานไมทบ ทถายนำหนกลงสลอเลอนโดยตรงไดเปนอยางด สำหรบเสนตงของบานไมชวยทำใหไมเกดการกกเกบนำในซอกและรองไม ยดอายการใชงานและการบำรงรกษาไดดวย สำหรบการเนนและสรางจดเดนใหกบทางเขา โดยใชเทคนคการมระนาบ คาน หรอซมประตอยเหนอประตทางเขาอยางบานหลงน จำเปนตองระมดระวงเรองความสงของรถยนตขนาดใหญ หรอการขนของเปนพเศษดวย สวนบานเลขท เปนเหลกทำสดำตวนนตดในตำแหนงทสงเกตได ดเรยบงาย และเขากบองคประกอบของประตทางเขา รวทบสวนทเหลอเปนการจดองคประกอบของระนาบทบหลายขนาด ดลดหลนกนตามไหลเขา และเลอกใชหนภเขาทขดจากทตงเอง ชวยสราง Sense of Place ไดอยางกลมกลน
