Clindamycin (Cleocin) in suppository form has been approved for BV in nonpregnant women. This antibiotic has been available in a variety of dosage forms. In one clinical trial, a three-day treatment of BV with clindamycin vaginal suppositories was as effective as seven days of metronidazole (Flagyl) taken by mouth. The clindamycin vaginal sup- pository offers patients a much shorter treatment alternative as com- pared to the oral medicine.
