COVER CAR- 1927 MARMON MODEL L

On one beautiful fall day about fifteen years ago, we went to the Carlisle car show for the first time just to compare it to Hershey which we had seen many times before. In the process, we stumbled upon this 1927 Marmon, Model L Phaeton sitting in the weeds behind a motor home. The owner was waiting to take it to Hershey the following week to sell it. Never having heard of a "Marmon", we called our friend, Dave George, for some advice, which was well taken, and we bought the car on the spot. It turned out that the car we purchased came with about one half of another "parts car", which has been a great help. We drove (using that word loosely!) the car around for a year or so before discovering the blown head gasket and several other problems, so with the help of our friends Chris and Chuck at Yarnell's in West Chester, we took the engine out to Ora Landis in Strasburg, PA who did a wonderful job ofbringing it back to life. We then enjoled driving the car around for seven or eight years, "as it was". Then we got a request to bring the car to the 100 anniversary, in May 2011, of the Indy 500 because Marmons were made in Indy. That, in turn, forced us to pay some much-needed attention to the outside of the car. We were lucky enough to be referred to Dan and Bill at Bull Dog Restorations in West Chester who, together with Herman Woolfrey Jr and Sr, who did the woodwork, performed a miracle and returned the car to "better than new" condition. The proof of this is that we were rewarded with a "Best in Class" at the Indy event! All things considered, we feel very lucky to have found a fantastic group of artisans who love the car as much as we do and we thank them for all of the hours of enjoyment•our family has had in the car. Additional pictures of the car during the restoration process can be seen at: www.bulldogrodcustom.com. Owner- Larry 0'

AACA EASTERN DIVISIONAL TOUR

Bob & [ are members of the Mid-Atlantic Plymouth Club based in Maryland and they sent an e-mail announcing they were making plans to attend this tour hosted by the South Jersey Region AACA. Jim Abcrts had been telling me, "now you are retired, take time to enjoy an AACA Tour." So, we signed up, having no idea what we would be doing. At our CCACC Picnic we found out Dave & Nancy Crossman & Hugh & Shelagh Purnell were also going on the tour and they invited us to meet them at the Commodore Barry Bridge to caravan together. Our hotels were in Vineland, N.J. which would be our hub and we would go out each morning with directions to our tour stops that day. We have been to Vineland many times, Route 322 to Route 55 and you are there, not that Friday. Hugh took the lead and when he turned otf of 322, we had no idea of where we were, but that was okay as we saw so many nice homes, open tields and great roads for the older cars. and we ended up on Route 55. Arriving around noon, we picked up our packets and decided to do the winery tour, which was very nice and after tasting, we came out with a bottle or two. On our way back to the hotel, not on our tour, but we stopped at a train shop we noticed on the way to the winery. This train shop had so much stutf, so many neat trains, and Hugh could not resist, he and Shelagh came out with a train for their latest grandchild ..

That night So Jersey Club provided pizza and the mummers for our entertainment. Thursday, it was off to the Battleship N.J. and the Aquariam, Friday we enjoyed Clayton Collection, which was a private collection of cars, boats, etc. and then we enjoyed Cape May for the day and Saturday our tour was Wheaton Village, Millville Army Air Museum and the Millville Motorsports Park. The entire tour was very well organized and we will defmitely try another one sometime.

Saturday night, we closed the tour with a delicious banquet at the Buena Vista Country Club. Sunday morning after breakfast our Plymouth friends headed back to Md., and Bob and I enjoyed our trip back to P A.

Coffee Delay In a rush to work one morning,

pulled up to the drive-through window at a fast-food restaurant and ordered some coffee.

Because I was in a hurry, asked them to put a couple of ice

cubes in the coffee so it would cool down more quickly and I could drink it faster.

I sat there at the pick-up window

for a few minutes, wondering where they had to go to get my coffee, when a frustrated teenager finally came up and said, "I'm sorry for the delay, but the ice you wanted in your coffee keeps melting!"
