Mood and tone

Imagery refers to any literary technique that an author uses to create an image for the reader. These images usually serve to produce a certain mood or tone.

Mood and tone are different, but equally important, elements of literature.

Mood describes the emotions that an author creates in the reader.

Tone is the author’s attitude toward his or her subject.

An author’s word choice has enormous impact on both mood and tone.
