Sd/- Registrar No: IUST/Reg/Admissions/17/241 Dated: 21-08-2017Errors & Omissions Excepted)- 9 yrs on, Trikanjan villagers await completion of footbridge ALTAF BABA Baramulla, Aug 21: Nine years on, the residents of Trikanjan village in Boni- yar tehsil of Baramulla district await completion of a footbridge by the depart- ment of R&B. According to reports, the department of R&B started work on a footbridge in the village in the year 2008. The foot bridge was being con- structed on a stream, divid- ing the village in two parts. However, soon after initi- ating construction work on the bridge, the department left the work halfway with- out any reason. The locals were hopeful that work on the bridge might start soon, however, nine years on, the department of Roads and buildings Uri didn't resume the work, with the result the local population continues to live with sufferings. The Trikanjan village is an important village in Tehsil Boniyar. The trekking through this village can lead to Gulmarg area of the dis- trict. The village is bisected by the famous Hapathkhaie Nallah, source of which is Hellipathri in Gulmarg. Noted author and colum- nist, Raja Nazar Bonyari, who hails from Trikanjan village, while talking to Greater Kashmir said that in absence of a foot bridge, the locals are facing enor- mous hardships, even stu- dents and patients have to walk extra two kilometres to reach the school. He said the situation worsens in rainy season. The executive engineer, R&B Uri Baldev singh, said that the work on the bridge was stopped due to paucity of funds and once funds are released the work will be resumed. Harassment of eves continues at workplaces SHAFAQ SHAH Srinagar, Aug 21: The assurances of the authorities notwithstanding, the women continue to experience harassment at workplaces in one way or the other. A woman teacher recently went on a long leave on her husband’s advice after a senior colleague of hers started harassing her to the extent of stalking her on social media websites. The colleague had first started with seeking her mobile phone number. This teacher’s case is not an incident in isolation. Harassment of women at workplaces is rife but because of the absence of the internal complaint committees meant for prevention and redress of harassment cases at workplac- es, the culprits go unpunished. In 2016, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had asked all administrative secretaries and district magistrates to ensure that internal complaint com- mittees will be constituted in all subordinate offices and at the district level within one month. But a year on, these com- mittees are yet to be consti- tuted by the deputy commis- sioners. The administrative department also has not set up the committees. The situation is no differ- ent in the private sector. A woman who is work- ing in a private bank said on the condition of anonymity, “These days you WhatsApp things related to your work to your bosses and then they (some of them) start texting you late in the night and ask about your relationship status, and if they find you single, then there is no limit to their nonsensical talk. And if you feel like complaining to your higher ups, very soon you realise they are all the same.” The cases of harassment of women at workplace are so underreported that in the year 2016-17, the State Commission for Women received only one case of harassment of a work- ing woman. A Public Interest Litigation was also filed in the High Court seeking implementation of the Protection of Sexual Harass- ment of Women at Workplace Act 2013, which makes local as well as internal complaint committees mandatory. All attempts to contact the Divisional Commissioner went in vain. International youth day held at KU Srinagar, Aug 21: The international youth day was held at Kashmir University on Monday. 9 yrs on, Trikanjan villagers await completion of footbridge

ALTAF BABA

Baramulla, Aug 21: Nine years on, the residents of Trikanjan village in Boni-yar tehsil of Baramulla district await completion of a footbridge by the depart-ment of R&B.

According to reports, the department of R&B started work on a footbridge in the village in the year 2008. The foot bridge was being con-structed on a stream, divid-ing the village in two parts.

However, soon after initi-ating construction work on the bridge, the department left the work halfway with-out any reason. The locals were hopeful that work on the bridge might start soon, however, nine years on, the department of Roads and buildings Uri didn't resume the work, with the result the local population continues to live with sufferings.

The Trikanjan village is an important village in Tehsil Boniyar. The trekking through this village can lead to Gulmarg area of the dis-trict. The village is bisected by the famous Hapathkhaie Nallah, source of which is Hellipathri in Gulmarg.

Noted author and colum-nist, Raja Nazar Bonyari, who hails from Trikanjan village, while talking to Greater Kashmir said that in absence of a foot bridge, the locals are facing enor-mous hardships, even stu-dents and patients have to walk extra two kilometres to reach the school.

He said the situation worsens in rainy season.

The executive engineer, R&B Uri Baldev singh, said that the work on the bridge was stopped due to paucity of funds and once funds are released the work will be resumed.

Harassment of eves continues at workplaces

SHAFAQ SHAH

Srinagar, Aug 21: The assurances of the authorities notwithstanding, the women continue to experience harassment at workplaces in one way or the other.

A woman teacher recently went on a long leave on her husband’s advice after a senior colleague of hers started harassing her to the extent of stalking her on social media websites. The colleague had first started with seeking her mobile phone number.

This teacher’s case is not an incident in isolation. Harassment of women at workplaces is rife but because of the absence of the internal complaint committees meant for prevention and redress of harassment cases at workplac-es, the culprits go unpunished.

In 2016, Chief Minister

Mehbooba Mufti had asked all administrative secretaries and district magistrates to ensure that internal complaint com-mittees will be constituted in all subordinate offices and at the district level within one month.

But a year on, these com-mittees are yet to be consti-tuted by the deputy commis-

sioners. The administrative department also has not set up the committees.

The situation is no differ-ent in the private sector.

A woman who is work-ing in a private bank said on the condition of anonymity, “These days you WhatsApp things related to your work to your bosses and then they

(some of them) start texting you late in the night and ask about your relationship status, and if they find you single, then there is no limit to their nonsensical talk. And if you feel like complaining to your higher ups, very soon you realise they are all the same.”

The cases of harassment of women at workplace are so underreported that in the year 2016-17, the State Commission for Women received only one case of harassment of a work-ing woman.

A Public Interest Litigation was also filed in the High Court seeking implementation of the Protection of Sexual Harass-ment of Women at Workplace Act 2013, which makes local as well as internal complaint committees mandatory.

All attempts to contact the Divisional Commissioner went in vain.
