THE STUDIES TO STOP AND PREVENT VIOLENCE IN SCHOOLS FOR THE FIRST TERM IN 2010-2011
At schools ,”student councils” have been formed in order to bring in the democracy consciousness .
Our directorate is conducting some studies such as establishing the culture of democracy at schools with the contracts among the student-family-school,publisizing the school with the whole opportunity including the expectations of the students and the families into the system.
The Guidance Units at schools are motivated to work effectively. 35 students in the 10th year chosen from each school were
given a seminar “Towards the knowledge and success” by Sait Gürsoy the education expert on guidance .
The seminar called “New Approaches in the Education and Teaching” was given to the all school headmasters and the co-headmasters in Burdur by Ömer Balıbey-The General Principal of Teacher Training at MEB and Ali Bayram –the educator and the author.
35 students chosen from each secondary education school and their parents were given a seminar about “the morale and the motivation in the success of student”, “family and youth education” by Halit Ertuğrul.
The Presidency of Human Rights at Burdur Governor conducted a seminar called “Human Rights” for 10 students chosen in 7.8.year from the primary schools.
SAMPLE PROJECTS IMPLEMENTED AT SCHOOLS ABOUT STOPPING THE VIOLENCE
The project “Life is sharing” at Vali Dr Sülayman Oğuz Primary School
“Guidance is the key of success” at Yahya Kemal Beyatlı Primary School.
“I can get help from my Guidance teacher everywhere and everytime.” at Şeker Primary School.
THE DISCIPLINARY EVENTS DISCUSSED IN THE CENTRAL DISCIPLINE COMMITTEE
In 2010-2011 Educational Year ,3 disciplinary events have been discussed in the committee.These events are like these - causing fight at school,being included in injury, using scathing and fatal tools and items and causing sipiritual and material harms. These three students got discipline punishments such as being dismissed out of formal education,censure punishment,being sent away from school with a leaving certificate.
In the districts, there aren’t any disciplinary events discussed in the committee.
THE DISCIPLINARY EVENTS DISCUSSED IN THE PRESIDENCY OF EDUCATION INSPECTORS
In 2010-2011 educational year ,some investigations were opened for 5 teachers,2 co-headmasters,1 doorman because of the violence to students.3 investigations are still going on and 5 investigations have been completed.Wage defletion for 1 day ,formal notice and stopping the pay level were the punishments given to these people.
THE EVENTS GIVEN THE CONSULTANT COUNSELLING BY THE JUDICIAL AUTHORITIES
The consultant counselling has been put in action for 11 students about the offenses such as malicious injury,giving harm to properties and burglary.
The consultant counselling according to the relevant law is given to the students by the Student Advisor.
The Student Advisors meet the students and their families and declare the reports about the student to the court.
THE STUDIES CARRIED OUT BY THE COUNSELLING GUIDANCE CENTER
At schools not having gudiance counselor,seminars on communication in family,the importance of parents’ positive attitudes towards students were conducted with the participation of parents.
THE ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT AT SCHOOLS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE ACTION PLAN
The basketball tournament was conducted among the classes.Seminars on exam anxiety,puberty,communication conflicts and the solutions,anger management, the negative effects of stress and the ways to cope with stress were conducted with the participation of the students.
The information meeting was conducted for the families about the topics such as the negative effects of internet cafe and other game centers,supporting the students with the social,cultural and sportive activities and the characteristics of puberty period.

THE DECISIONS TAKEN IN THE MEETING OF THE PROVINCIAL EXECUTIVE COUNCIL
1- Taking the necessary precautions about not having any films,games including violence in the ICT labs at schools
2-Raising the numbers of the sportive and cultural activities which have the effective role in preventing the violence at schools and giving the effective role to the Physical Education Teachers in planning the sportive activities.
3-Raising the numbers of the licensed sports -students at schools
4-Raising the numbers of the seminars related to preventing the violence at schools and encouraging the Guidance Counsellors to work more effectively.
Now,we are going to give you some information about the education system in Burdur and the studies carried out at schools in order to prevent and stop the violence.

The population of the city is 257.000 according to the results of the population census prepared by the input data of Turkish Statistical Institute in 2008.Town population covers 59 % of the total population.Rural population covers 41 % of the total population.Approximately,one out of five people is included in education.

The most important characteristic of the adolessence period is the passion of excitement and adrenaline.If the teenagers cannot find the activities to decharge this energy,they may display harmful behaviours for themselves and the society.Because aggressiveness feeds itself with the passion of excitement.One of the most important ways to prevent teenagers from the harmfull behaviours and the violence is sportive and cultural activities.Thus,in Burdur a great attention is paid for these activities.Now,let’s see the numbers of the sportive and social activities;

In the four big organisations held in Burdur (3 of them is National Festivals and one of them is the Folk Dance Contest conducted throughout the city),there were 56 community and 851 students joined these activities.

Whether the aggressive behaviour which is shown as the resource of the violence events exists in the nature of the human,many studies show that how this can be revealed is learned later.And this shows that all these displayed behaviours are gained by the child’s family,society,friends and the media.It certainly can be said that the explanation style of films,soap operas,newspapers and the news have a big effect on this.The rapid development of the internet and the communication technologies have been added to this for the last 10 years.

All the computers in the ICT rooms are connected to the internet and it is impossible for students to reach the web sites including violence and being negative effects on children’s emotions and psycology thanks to the patnership between National Education Ministry and Internet Providing Service(Telekom).
But in the areas out of the school the students are under the control of the families.we believe that making students stay in the area of the schools may keep the students away from the bad interaction with the areas out of school.So, what should we do?ıt is necessary to make the schools prettier.
In addition to these;schools should be physically and psycologically secure and away from these violent behaviours in order to maintain the educational activities at school.Because any safety anxiety and the idea of being hurt will decrease the performance of the teachers and the students seriously.
The targets our Project will try to find the solutions fora re the problems mentioned above.While doing these ,we aim to see the best practises which the coordinator education authorities and the school partners of the Project have developed and also to acquire the most applicable of them. Furthermore;it is aimed that this interection should be disseminated not only in the partner schools in Timis and Burdur but also in the all schools all around Burdur and Timis.That’s why many schools out of the partner schools in both cities support the activities of this Project.
The total accomplishment period of the Project is 24 months and so far the nine months of the Project have been completed.

There is a saying;
« it is not the solution to kill the mousquitos one by one,the solution is to dry the marsh.»
There is an exam which is called SBS implemented throughout the country for the students to continue the advanced quality level of secondary education.As you see from the table,Burdur has been the first for the last four years.
