2.Easter

Easter is the most important holiday of the year.

Preparation for Easter starts seven weeks ahead of time with the advent of Lent. Believers don’t eat meat and animal products.

Palm Sunday, the week before Easter, is known as Willow Sunday. People bring home willow branches which have been blessed in church.

The week is dedicated to preparing for Easter. The Thursday before Easter is called “Clean Thursday”.

Christmas celebrate on the 25th of December. What kind of holiday is it ? It is the yearly celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. This holiday means the beginning of the new year and the new life.

English people celebrate this holiday with the evergreen tree- Christmas tree. Children rut along sock, called a Christmas stocking at the end of their beds and Santa Claus conies down the chimney to bring them presents.

Their total area is over 244,000 square kilometers . The United Kingdom is made up of four countries : England, Wales, Scotland(on the island of Great Britain), and Northern Ireland(on the island of Ireland). Their capitals are London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, and Belfast respectively. The capital of the UK is London. The British Isles are separated from the European continent by the North Sea and the English Channel. The western coast of Great Britain is washed by the Atlantic Ocean and the Irish Ocean

Elizabeth II is the Queen of the United Kingdom. She was born on April 21st 1926.

Elizabeth was born in London and educated privately at home. She was the oldest daughter of Elizabeth I and Prince Albert, who later obtained the title King George VI. From the very childhood she was very keen on studying. Her most favourite subjects included arts and sport.

BIG BEN

The Houses of Parliament.

The English people built the tower and the clock in 1858. The clock has four faces and a very big loud bell. The bell weighs 13 tons. The man in charge of the building was Sir Benjamin Hall. This man was very tall, and the workers and his friends called him Big Ben. So they called the bell Big Ben too.

On New Year ‘s night people come to the Clock Tower.

London Eye.

London Eye is a huge Ferris wheel, located in the heart of London. Fairly new, but already known and popular. It has a beautiful view of the whole of Central London. Circle on the Ferris wheel, be sure to make each guest the British capital that would assess the size and beauty of the city.

Trafalgar Square

Trafalgar Square is a public space and tourist attraction in central London. Nelson’s Column, with the statue of Admiral Lord Nelson on top, rises in the centre of Trafalgar Square.

To the north-east of Trafalgar Square there is the building that houses the National Gallery of Art.

There are many pigeons in the square and Londoners like to feed them. Quite often the square becomes the location for meetings and in it crowds of Londoners congregate to celebrate to celebrate political rallies.

The National Gallery.

The National Gallery is an art museum on Trafalgar Square, London, United Kingdom. Founded in 1824, it houses a collection of over 2,300 paintings dating from the mid-13th century to 1900. The gallery is an exempt charity, and a non-departmental public body of the Department for Culture, media and Sport. Its collection belongs to the public of the United Kingdom.
