A small group of local artists and photographers coming

together to foster awareness and fundraise through art.

This exhibition’s cause is the Black Dog Institute

and mental health awareness.

THE BLACK DOG INSTITUTE is a not-

for-profit organisation and world leader

in the diagnosis, treatment and

prevention of mood disorders such as

depression and bipolar disorder.

Making an appointment. Before attending the clinic, we require

a referral from the patient’s managing doctor (General

Practitioner or Psychiatrist) that includes background and

history of mood disorder, as well as the specific advice (e.g.

diagnosis, management) sought by that doctor or by any other

managing health professional.

The referral can be faxed to (02) 9382 8510 or emailed to

[email protected]. Alternatively, it can be posted

to Depression Clinic, Black Dog Institute, Hospital Road, Prince

of Wales Hospital, Randwick NSW 2031. Once we have received

your referral, a senior psychiatrist will screen it within one week

and the Clinic Secretary will then call you to arrange a time for

your appointment.

(From the Black Dog Institute website)

will be providing Devonshire

Teas over the weekend with

the proceeds going to the

Royal Institute for Deaf &

Blind Children.

Lantern Clubs are made up of

enthusiastic, fun-loving and

committed people who fundraise for the Royal Institute for Deaf & Blind

Children (RIDBC). All funds raised by Blue Mountains Lantern Club are

forwarded to RIDBC, Australia’s largest independent special educator. RIDBC

provides a wide range of educational services for children who have significant

hearing and/or vision impairment, including children with additional

disabilities.

Artist Profiles was born in East

Germany and started painting at age 16.

In 1957, with his new wife Edel and his paints, he fled to West Germany and 3 years later migrated to Australia. But it wasn’t until 1994 when he retired and his son Michael made him an easel for his Birthday, that he followed his dream and devoted his time to painting. He and his wife started to travel extensively with their caravan throughout Australia. The natural beauty of the bush and the outback became his inspiration to paint Landscapes and Seascapes in oil.

His paintings have sold to every State in Australia, as well as Germany, Japan, Singapore, New Zealand, America and Canada. He is a member of the Nepean Art Society and the Macquarie Town Art Society.

His achievements: 1st in Penrith Agricultural Show 2008 World Heritage Art Prize (Blue Mt.) Wentworth Falls Public School – 2010 1st “Rose Lindsay Art Prize” - Springwood Art Show 2012 Many commended Certificates and 12 People Choice Awards

Guenter has been Feature Artist on many occasions.

He has a small Gallery and can be contacted by Phone: 02 47352455 or email: [email protected]

I grew up in the Upper

Blue Mountains and enjoyed the National Parks filled with beautiful picturesque scenery and this is where my inspiration began. What started out as a hobby 11 years ago has developed into a true passion. Specialising in Landscape and Seascape photography, I very much enjoy capturing the natural beauty around Australia. The desire for the perfect light and location drives me to be out in the field before sunrise and staying out late in the evening waiting for the moment to be captured. After taking the photo's I will print and personally frame them using the highest quality materials available in order to share my style and photography with others in a local gallery and occasional exhibitions. Thank you and I hope you have as much enjoyment in viewing my photo's as I have had taking them.

Photography has

always been of interest to me and subsequently I owned Lennox One Hour Photos a Mini Lab, in the Lennox Centre at Emu Plains for 21 years. During this time, I gained a deeper love of photography. In 2009 I joined the Penrith RSL Photography Club. With the many friends I have made through the Club and now dealing with many photographers and artists in my current business with Ben Baxter at the Picture Framing Warehouse, my love for photography has grown even more. Some of my photographic highlights to date are; 1st Prize Portrait & Best in Show at the Sydney Royal Easter Show

2014. Print of the Year – Penrith RSL Club 2013 & 2015. Have entered a number of local shows in my area such as Penrith

Show, Luddenham Show, winning many awards at both. 1st in Landscape section, 2nd prize in Portrait section and Highly

Commended in Urbanisation section at the 2016 Sydney Royal Easter Show.

I have developed a huge passion for photography but my inspiration comes from the many friends I have made along the way in my photographic journey. Thank you to all those around me who help, encourage and inspire me.

My art is inspired by the

visual world around me, both nature and city. I paint in all mediums but concentrate in watercolour. My art is not as much about the subjects I paint as the light that illuminates them. I am based in the Nepean area of Sydney but travel widely and am inspired to paint the memories of my travels.

Becoming an artist has

opened my eyes to the wonderful world around me. I now value the sky when its sunrises and sunsets are a kaleidoscope of colour; and when it is that amazing deep cobalt blue on a warm summer’s day. I’m now fascinated with the white fluffiness of a cumulus and the thin wispy stands of cirrus; whilst I’m totally captivated by the heavy storm clouds on a cold winter’s day.

My eyes are now open to the multitude of colour in nature, whether it is in an autumn leaf or a butterfly’s wing. I now see the purples or blues within black and the colours within a shadow. But what grips me is the intensity of colour in an eye. It can be so deep that it draws you to the depth of the soul.

Becoming an artist has opened my life up to a different world. It has given me the opportunity to meet like-minded people. It has given me the opportunity to use my knowledge and skills in a new way. I’ve gone from running TAFE literacy workshops to coordinating art exhibitions. And, I’ve especially enjoyed coordinating this fundraising exhibition which is raising community awareness about mental health and supporting the Black Dog Institutes’ research programmes.

I have been in love

with painting watercolours for a few years now, ever since a friend dragged me along to an art class in 2012. With no formal training or background in the arts, I found my passion in landscapes and street scenes, experimenting with colour and shape to evolve my style with a sprinkling of abstracts and dabbling with pen & ink. I have exhibited at the Nepean Art Society Exhibitions and the Penrith Show. This year I have been fortunate to have sold 12 paintings some of which were commissioned. I love nothing more than a day in my art room and thoroughly enjoy attending art classes, workshops and demonstrations.

has lived and worked in

the Blue Mountains for the past 22 years. Six and a half years ago I was involved in an incident at work and was shortly after diagnosed with PTSD. It was suggested that I find a hobby, and 3 years ago I found a camera in my hand, which helped to give me the peace that I required. In 2014 I was part of a group of wonderful and inspirational people who published a fundraising book, " As The Smoke Clears", which showed the recovery of the bush and people following the 2013 Blue Mountains bushfires. This book helped to raise almost $20,000 for the Blue Mountains Mayoral Bushfire Appeal. I now find that I look at the world through different eyes. I see the beauty in the smallest thing from the wild to the wonderful. Recent Awards - People's Choice BentArt 2016

(nicknamed ‘Val’), entered into watercolours with the desire to one day become a children’s book illustrator in the medium. With a background in fashion illustration and design, she self-educated herself in drawing and then later found Joe Cartwright, who was an indispensable guide and teacher in the medium of watercolour.

Since beginning her journey, she has won several awards and prizes for her work, including first prizes in ‘The Coal & Allied Singleton Art Prize’ and ‘The Penrith Show’. She creates artworks in various subjects including street scenes, landscapes, flowers and seascapes, exploring different moods and expression in her work. She enjoys teaching the magic of watercolour to others, through art classes, private tuition and within demonstrations.

My joy in art since

my retirement nearly 10 years ago has been a revelation. Drawing with pencil and pen and painting with watercolours give me most pleasure. It seems that anything can be a subject for a picture. I came to

Australia from the USA at the age of 18. I was considered to be ‘artistic’ as a child but never persevered with art per se.

My profession was in science, as a pathology technician and my husband has always been the ‘artist’ of the

family. Discovering that I could draw when I attended my first class after retirement was a welcome surprise and then the action of watercolours on good paper was a further delight. As I painted and presented a few pictures at local exhibitions I was amazed to sell some and was awarded a second in an exhibition. I have not entered many competitions so have not many prizes to brag about. Selling was the thrill. I am on 2 art society committees…for Nepean Art Society and ‘What’s On’ monthly notification for Springwood Art Society.
