A WORD FROM THE ADMINISTRATOR “I believe in ONE, Holy, Catholic,

and Apostolic Church,” Part 4 Science tells us that the ability of an organism to recognize its predators is critical to its survival. This includes us humans. Sadly, down through the mille-nia we have preyed on each other. The ancient great empires and civilizations were built on the ability of one group to devastate other competing groups in order to predominate. It seems that as long as human kind had been around, equal has never been good enough. Yet, as one of the founding documents of our own nation attests, our founders believed that an essential ele-ment of a democratic country was the belief that “all men are created equal”. Our Sacred Scripture, even though in many early places is holds that Jewish people are considered THE people of God there are many places where there are references to “all people” being welcome “on God’s holy mountain”. Jesus at the Last Supper prays that “all may be one as you, Father, and I are One”. Paul tells us that “there is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free” but that we are all the same in the Body of Christ. Yet in the two thousand years of Christianity we have made little progress in breaking down barriers and building on our common humanity to achieve that “Oneness” that Christ prayed for. I think there are some questions that need answers in order to make progress toward real Christian unity. How can we all grow in an awareness of and respect for the dignity of each human being, especially those

we don’t like, disagree with, don’t look like us or sound like us?

What does mean to have enough? Is there really such a concept in our society?

Can I accept seeing myself as equal in God’s eyes, and dignity with every other human being?

Is it really necessary to be in an unchallenged posi-tion of power or control?

How does the Gospel message of Jesus Christ affect my view of the stuff in my life?

How does my relationship with Jesus Christ reflect my relationship with other human beings?

There are probably a few other questions, but this is a good start.

UNA PALABRA DEL ADMINISTRADOR “Creo en la Iglesia, que es una, santa,

católica y apostólica. “ Parte 4 La ciencia nos dice que la capacidad de un organismo para reconocer a sus depredadores es fundamental para su supervivencia. Esto incluye humanos. Tristemente, a través de los milenios nos hemos atacado unos a otros. Los antiguos grandes imperios y civilizaciones se construyeron sobre la capacidad de un grupo para devastar a otros grupos en competencia con el fin de predominar. Parece que mientras haya existido el ser humano, el igual nunca ha sido suficiente. Sin embargo, como lo atestigua uno de los documentos fundacionales de nuestra propia nación, nuestros fundadores creían que un elemento esencial de un país democrático era la creencia de que "todos los hombres son creados iguales". Nuestra Sagrada Escritura, aunque en muchos lugares antiguos se sostiene que los judíos son considerados EL pueblo de Dios, hay muchos lugares donde hay referencias a que "todas las personas" sean bienvenidas "en la montaña santa de Dios". Jesús en la última cena reza para que "todos sean uno como tú, padre, y yo somos uno". Creo que hay algunas preguntas que necesitan respuestas para avanzar hacia la verdadera unidad de los cristianos.

¿Cómo podemos todos crecer en la conciencia y el respeto por la dignidad de cada ser humano,

especialmente aquellos que no nos gustan, con los que no estamos de acuerdo, que no se parecen a nosotros? ¿Qué significa tener suficiente? ¿Existe realmente tal

concepto en nuestra sociedad? ¿Puedo aceptar verme a mí mismo como igual a los

ojos de Dios y dignidad con cualquier otro ser humano?

¿Es realmente necesario estar en una posición de poder o control no cuestionada?

¿De qué manera el mensaje del Evangelio de Jesucristo afecta mi visión de las cosas en mi vida?

¿Cómo refleja mi relación con Jesucristo mi relación con otros seres humanos?

Probablemente haya algunas otras preguntas, pero este es un buen comienzo.

Meet Your St. Colette School Teachers Mrs. Mary Vitale—Fourth Grade Teacher My name is Mary Vitale and I teach 4th grade at St. Co-lette School. My husband, Jim and I have 3 children, a dog and we live in Elk Grove Village. I graduated from Northeastern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Sci-ence Degree in Elementary Education. I have been teach-ing at St. Colette School for 12 years. I love the religion component of St. Colette, our community service projects and the kindness and caring of each other that I see in my students. The diversity of our school is amazing and I love learning about my students’ families and their strong faith in God. I love the feel that our 4th grade class and our school is a family.

On behalf of the Picnic Committee, we would like to thank all the volunteers and patrons for helping us make this year’s picnic a success. Special thanks to

our parishioners who donated an abundance of refreshments and chips. The response was

Dear St. Colette Community, I wanted to let you know that my last mass with St. Colette will be the weekend of Sept. 22nd and Sept 23rd. I am so eternally grateful for

the compassion, respect, and collaboration I have re-ceived from you all these last eight years. I will truly miss the people of St. Colette and pray that God contin-ues to bless this generous community; you really are an amazing and resilient parish. I was unexpectedly offered the Director of Mu-sic position at St. John the Evangelist in Streamwood – my current hometown. The parish is right around the corner from where I live. The parish also has a school attached in which my children will be attending. On this final note, let it not be melancholy, but joyful, as it is an opportunity for renewed sense of faith and trust that the Lord will provide, as He always does. I will be assisting Father Brian in the search committee for my replacement, and we ask for your prayers and patience through this transition. Feel free to come visit me at the parish house these next few weeks or after mass, I am more than happy to keep in touch with you if you’d like. May Christ continue to bless you and grow this parish of St. Colette each day.

Do we have the will to change the statistics? 54 Million Americans report they have been a VIC-

TIM of Domestic Violence.* * Number represents % of U.S. population ages 15+

60% of Americans know a victim of domestic vio-lence or sexual assault.

73% of parents with children under the age of 18 said they have not talked with them about domestic vio-lence or sexual assault.

Even though 75% of Americans say they would act help a stranger being abused, the reality is most peo-ple do not help.

But 64% of Americans say if we talk more about do-mestic violence and sexual assault, it would make it easier to help someone.

Grief Support Group at St. Raymond Emmaus Walk, a support group for adults grieving the loss of a loved one, will begin meeting on Monday, October 1st at 7:00 pm in the St. Raymond Parish Ministry Center and continue weekly until Monday, Novem-ber 26th Anyone grieving the loss of a fami-ly member of other significant person in their life is welcome to join us. During our time together various elements of the grief journey will be explored through education, discussion and prayer in a safe and confi-dential setting.
