Director’s Message

We Live in Unprecedented Times The world we live in now and will return to is radically different from the one we left before lockdown. As ever, tragically, it is the most vulnerable that are and will be the hardest hit. A fundamental rethink is required. Businesses will need to develop new ways of operating and reaching their clients. Charities will have to do the same, with the added burden of devising new fundraising strategies to fund critical services. During these challenging times there have been many inspirational acts by volunteers throughout the county. Meanwhile our team is delivering much-needed PPE to frontline staff and continuing to offer vital home security services. Home security support is now more important than ever before. Recently a man was accused of Britain’s first self-isolating murder after his wife was found dead at their home. Campaigners had warned that enforced isolation could lead to an ‘epidemic’ in domestic violence. Since lockdown, we have seen a 20% rise in cases reported in Wiltshire, many more no doubt unreported. In these unprecedented times we’re having to come up with new ways to keep our vital charity functioning. With every event until July cancelled, we’re having to be creative! So if someone approaches you for a donation, please do help if you can. Your support is needed now more than ever before. Welcome to the Dorset Bobby Van Trust We’re delighted to welcome the newly launched Dorset Bobby Van Trust. It operates independently from the Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust and has the full support of Dorset PCC and Dorset Police to react to the specific needs of the county.

Thank you… My deepest thanks to our brilliant team of staff and volunteers. I was especially proud of our Covert Camera Team being nominated at the South West Region Special Constabulary and Police Support Volunteers Awards in October. Sadly they didn’t win, but Wiltshire Police Chief Constable and Bobby Van Trustee, Kier Pritchard, was so impressed that they are to be recognised with an internal Wiltshire Police Award. Our Stay Safe Online volunteers have helped more than 1800 people since the service launched in May 2017. Under the current

conditions they’re offering telephone support and advice and looking forward to getting back to home visits and group talks once lockdown eases.

Our volunteers have given the Trust 742 hours since November 2019; thank you so much. We are incredibly grateful for all they do. A mention too for Will Todd, one of our fantastic Home Security operators, who cycled the Ride100 last year, raising £1,274 and pictured here taking a well-earned rest with his medal at the finish. A huge thank you to all our supporters who have so generously given to help keep the trust providing the highly professional services that it does and in particular, Julia and Hans Rausing for their significant funding, especially in our work supporting people suffering from domestic abuse. Finally, I’d like to welcome our new Trustees, Craig Baker, Head of Prevention and Protection at Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue, Emily Tulloch, Marion Deegan and Lucinda

Baker, all bringing new energy and skills to our Board of Trustees.
